Yes, usually they count it with taxes for me, which is annoying :(

I recall someone mention shipping is not counted, but taxes are.

I can't believe you remember that LOL

Been declaring the whole costs after that ever since...

I find that interactions with each CBSA officer is different. It's like a CRA rep, no two reps have the same answer even though there is one set of laws LOL. Some of them are real dickheads too. I have a friend that was up until recently waiting for the renewal of his study permit. And every time we come back from Ridge we have problems and each problem is different/each officer's perspective of the law is different. Which blows my mind, because how is there discretion on something that is black and white.

When I used to go down quite often, I wouldn't even blatantly say that I got
(3-4) jerry cans. I would say I got gas, tell them the amount that it cost me, and off I go.

It's the epitome of YMMV.

I went down one weekday to get some things, and I had a buddy ask me to pick up 2 packs of menthol cigarettes since I'm there.

I get to the Nexus booth coming back into Canada, tell him I have $300 worth of stuff and 2 packs of cigarettes. He starts writing shit so I'm like 'oh man, you're sending me in'? and he goes 'yeah there's no exemption on tobacco'. But he didn't tax me on anything else I brought back, just the two packs of smokes. Like I'm pretty sure the $300 isn't exempt either since I was only gone for an hour, but ok.

donk. 09-05-2023 10:29 PM

Your damned if you do, your damned if you don't.

I broke my phone day 1 of vacation a few years back, bought a new cheap shit phone for 80$.

Vacation went on. Bought probably another 800$ worth of shit.

I get back to Canada, declare the "880$ of shit" and the dude asks "any electronics?", yup, I got a phone.

Somehow they ended up charging me another 80$ for just the phone. Don't remember how or why, but that's what it was. Should have just chucked it, but I think I had photos or who knows what on there

Another time me and my buddies were coming back from Mehico, and I never check bags anymore. So I got my buddy to take this awesome beef jerky in his bag.

Our flight got moved with a layover on the way back, we get to Calgary, he declares the meat, ends up getting pulled for additional bag checking because of it.
He was going to miss the flight, so I ended staying back because it was my fault in the first place lol....... No more beef jerky in transit. Went to the strippers since it was God dam 11pm by the time we got "out" of the airport. Got our flight at 6am? What a waste of time.

Now when I travel, "I dont have anything to declare"

^how was your experience going past in the vette ? Did ze Americans salute you while you rolled up ?

I’ve found most of these border dudes are pretty anti luxury cars.

Show up in a Camry - easy peasy, doesn’t even ask a question
Show up in a maserati - what do you do for work ? Who’s car is this ? What’s your blood type ? Why is your legal name so aggressively Chinese ? Etc

donk. 09-06-2023 09:13 AM

Didn't have an issue both trips

When I went down for formula drift the second question he asked was "are you competing in this thing?" :concentrate:

LOL when I came back from ridge they asked if I was competing. CBSA also couldn't comprehend that someone would bring down an extra set of wheels and tires.

i remember back when i used to do day trips regularly... i got a talking to bringing back a 24 pack beer, but nothing on a 6'er... a warning for a 12 sometimes, found a 6 or 8 pack to be the sweet spot. no issues with a big bottle of wine (not a 4L LOL)

if you buy the hard stuff, any spirit though, automatic duties/tax

it's like unwritten rules or something

MG1 09-13-2023 07:34 PM

Just got warning message from Safari browser that passwords on 5D Package site has been compromised. They closed down a while ago, but it looks like someone got a hold of important data. Maybe it's a hoax, but I use the same password on other sites. I know, I know.............. now have to change those passwords.

Fucking irresponsible businesses. Our personal information should be erased once business is dead.

Anyway, not taking any chances.

Like I said, it could be just a hoax. I hope it is.

donk. 09-13-2023 07:52 PM

Who is to say it's the businesses fault

You go on some website, the cookies copy your email into a register

The hacker takes that email list, enters it into an automated key cracker, and goes to bed.

By the morning a program has run 10,000 most common passwords through 100,000 different emails that logged into that website.

Hacker now uses, or sells your email and password, along with dozens of others

Another hacker buys that list, copies and pastes the email and password into a multi-website checker, and now has access to 20 of your accounts because most people use the same password.

If you ever use free wifi and log into secure website on said wifi, you are begging for your info to be stolen

If you don't clear your cachë frequently (for other than porn purposes) you are also begging for cookie to follow you for weeks, months, and years on end

Password cracking forums are still a thing, and the tools are very available

/ don't have your bank, email, or any payment websites, as the same password as ANY other website

I'm not that slow.............. My bank passwords are constantly in a state of....................... anyway, Revscene is the safest site of all. No hacker except, Bradford Chow, has ever hacked into Revscene, gulolololol.

MG1 09-17-2023 09:20 AM

I hope I don't ever see the US border guard I came across last week. The guy was big and white as a ghost. Actually, can you get whiter than white? Dude's skin was like transparent. I so wanted to say to him, "Do you have any blood under that skin?"

Anyway, he asked me question after question after questions. I had instant answers, 'cause I've done this millions of times. I could see him getting frustrated. I wasn't going to buckle under his tactic. Besides, I had absolutely nothing to hide. In the end he says, "I will permit you to proceed." I politely said, "Thank you, sir." while laughing inside. What a numb nut.

This is probably as close to the right thread as they come. We are going on a cruise at the end of the month and connectivity down in Canada's pants, what are your recommendations?

Is that card on Amazon any good?
Should I just suck it up and get 3 months of Mint Mobile?
Is Airalo thing any good?

Help please.

Badhobz 09-18-2023 12:41 PM

AIRALO is very good. Highly recommended and its cheap compared to the other options.

First time seems a bit intimidating but its quite simple and painless once you get it setup

roastpuff 09-18-2023 12:51 PM

Airalo is great. If you want a referral code for $3 off let me know

CivicBlues 09-18-2023 01:08 PM

Wouldn't the cruise ship have wifi on board?

But yes, Airalo is fantastic. Used in 3 countries (including the US) so far no issues except having to reconnect every once in a while in rural areas.

EvoFire 09-18-2023 02:07 PM

The boat will have weefee, but on excursions and also when we are staying in San Diego we'll need data. No one brings a map anymore :lawl:
