You can also download offline Google maps. Worked for me for years when I was too cheap to pay for roaming plans or SIM caards in expensive countries. Then Airalo came along.... |
Another +1 for Airalo. I was on a Mediterranean cruise in August and fortunately had wifi on board and Airalo for when we were on land. Keep in mind, wifi on the ship is not cheap by any means (but at least it's becoming more reliable)! |
unpopular opinion, but my wife and I chose not to buy wifi on the ship and not only did we save a lot of money, but it forced us to disconnect from the grid for a week and it was wonderful. tough for the first day or so, but after that it felt great. at shore stops, I'd get wifi at a coffee shop just to check email and that was it. I stayed off social media and it was like a cleanse lol. |
thats stupid. how dare you disconnect from the hive mind. We are RS, resistance is futile. |

We want to disconnect too, and I think we would if it was just the two of us, but we got two kids and if we split up we need to know what's going on with the other one etc. Kids things. |
I downloaded the Airalo app, but it seems to be data only. It's not the end of the world, but are there voice+data alternatives for a similar price? Funny how it used to be that voice was cheap/free and it was data that costs you a lot of money. Now you sometimes can't even find a voice plan. |
very low demand for voice nowadays, you can call through apps |
Two weeks in a row I’ve come across really nice border guards. Both sides. So refreshing. I made the US border guard bust out laughing this morning. It just makes the short trip that much more enjoyable. I don’t get why some of them have to be all cunty. <———- is that even a word? Miserable. It affects everyone. I’m the kind of person who can leave it behind in an instant, but others not so much. Reminds me of that Star Trek Voyager episode where bad thoughts lead to others carrying on the hatred. Fuck those border guards. Good to come across some decent ones once in awhile. |
I'm going to the states this Friday and coming back Monday, its going to be so nice being able to bring booze, food back and to go shopping with out having to worry about getting dry fisted with duty charges at the border lol |
What if you run into……………. Her……………. On the way back. Revenge! Dry fisted, for sure. |

Wow, my sister works in a field that determines people's cognitive abilities... she had a patient recently who was going to die of the same and had averaged 20 beers a day for 20 years... that's about 150,000 beers... can you imagine??? Crazy |
my ex was drinking a 60 of gin every 2-3 days with water for years.. I heard she quit right after we ended things 4 1/2 years ago but the damage was already done. Her dad was a drunk and so was her mom so you think she would have it in her genes to handle booze but nope. |

I've been meaning to ask, but does anyone know what those numbers on the white piece of paper that is printed out from the passport kiosks mean? In my party of 6 returning from Mexico, there were like a handful of different numbers. None of us were stopped by customs before exiting the immigration area, and we all chose the same options in the passport kiosk machine - e.g. didn't exceed personal duty free limits, no animal products, etc. |
69 means you’re going in to get raped |
I'm super okay with that depending who it is FeelsGoodMan |
All I know is the codes change every day, most mean nothing but the one code for the day says you need to go to secondary. |

If you want voice+data for US/CA/MX, pretty much all providers offer plans with free roaming capabilities. Although the big 3 don't advertise them, but there's no problem for one to obtain a plan at price similar to Freedom if not better. I just moved to Rogers and the plan is 55/mth, ultd talk/text/data with cap at 150GB and free roaming in US/CA/MX. And the plan's data is sharable. So, between the 3lines I have, we have like 375GB in total (1 line's a 75GB plan. Data is sharable in the pool, just no free roaming. This is for 35/mth) The main reason to get this very plan was because I travel to US frequently for work. And losing voice capability is a nono. |
