$600USD for tires
$1400USD for a new turbo

All through the Nexus lane with only me in the car.

Before I had Nexus, I pretty much had to go in every time I was over $300 USD and was the only person in the car.

Wow, what is your secret? I have Nexus as well. I got pulled over for a set of tires around $600US with like 4 people in the car one time. $1400 .. wow, jackpot!

In my exp is just being honest and just let the luck hit.

Ever since getting Nexus, I've always declared it down to the cent accuracy as no saving is worth risking the Nexus. And I think only time I ever had to go in to pay taxes was when I came back with some electronics I bought on fleebay (5xxUSD). Other than that, Canadian agents have been pretty cool. (knock on wood)

Am I able to use my Nexus card for going through the normal crossing? Does having a valid passport matter?

My password expires in 2 weeks. My Nexus expires next year. Can I procrastinate my passport renewal for travel to the US?

MikeyStyle 07-31-2017 04:57 PM

used my nexus pass in the regular lane with no problem. scanned it at the machine as normal before driving up to the officer

not sure if a valid passport matters or not

Assuming you are only talking about going through a land crossing, you do not need a valid passport at all when you have a valid Nexus card.

For the first 2 or 3 years when I got my Nexus card, I did not have a valid passport at all. No passport was registered with the Nexus card, and I never ran into any problems going through the local land crossings into the US. I was also just using the regular Nexus line most of the time -- that's saves me time and it's the reason I got Nexus in the first place. But on a few occasions when I was coming home after a track day, it was too late for the Nexus counter, so I just went through the regular one. Still no passport -- just my Nexus card. Zero issues at all.

A family member recently received her Nexus card as well, and she currently has no valid passport. She has no plans to fly to the US any time soon, so she is not planning to get a passport until she plans on doing some air travel away from Canada. No issues from the US agent.

^ technically you're supposed to have a valid passport and are supposed to inform them when you move

Don't let them find out

You just have to prove citizenship/PR status. That can be done with a citizenship card, birth certificate or PR document. The application form doesn't seem to indicate the passport is a requirement.

With that said, TSA at the airport won't accept the NEXUS card as a valid form of ID in place of a passport. I've been flat out rejected by the TSA when I used my NEXUS, and I've seen a guy argue with a gate agent when they did pre-boarding passport checks about the validity of a NEXUS card as a passport replacement.

I'd honestly just get the passport renewed and save the hassle if you're just going to renew it in the future anyways. The turnaround is about 10 business days when I did it last year.

I ordered something last week and shipped it to Pt Roberts, TSBShipping.. Didnt want to ship and wait at the line, last time I did that, waited almost 45mins...

I parked my car at a near by residential area (I know, its towable) and walked on foot.

IT WAS A LONG ASS WALK! lol... do not walk to TSB Shipping.. haha.. took me 15-18mins walk each way in the heat..

I just registered at InOut Parcel and Point to Point Parcel, which is about 5mins walk or less.. haha..

MG1 08-06-2017 07:01 PM

Your story reminded me of a shipping company in Sumas coming up with the idea of bringing parcels to the border, so their customers didn't have to walk too far with heavy items. I think they were using golf carts. Was a great idea until the city said it was illegal to use golf carts for that purpose, even though it was okay to drive a golf cart in town (25 MPH zone). I think they also tried the pick up the customer method. It was short lived, lol.

The Sumas border crossing is perfect, because the distance between the US Customs and Canadian Customs offices are so close together.

I'm going by memory here, so I may be off with some details, but it did happen.

Are there any 24hr mailboxes in Pt Roberts? I've been using 24/7 Parcel in Blaine for the past couple years. It's $3 USD/package. Not the cheapest, but I love being able to pick up mail in the evening, after all the lineups are gone.

In and Out Parcel at Pt. Roberts.

24 hours, after hours is automated. I used to use Tsbshipping, but after registering for inout parcel, I found it was much better for me.

FerrariEnzo 10-14-2017 10:20 AM

I just got back from going to PT roberts..

the Canadian boarder office was stupidly annoying..
I was on foot and shipped a package to P2P parcel (SOOO close... took me less then 10mins to get back). So I walked up to the stop sign and I was standing next the car, avg loudness and I sort of heard someone talk, I thought it was the guy in the car so I just stood there.. few secs I heard "hurry up and come up now!" The dude was still in his booth.. I mean he could as least waved me, its hard to hear someone from that distance if hes still inside that damn booth..

So I walked up and he said "Didnt you hear me".. I told him, "Sorry officer I didnt, the car next to me was a bit loud." he didnt say anything and the asked me what I got.. I told him I got a small packaged.. I placed it on the window ledge. He looked at it and asked me if I opened to check the contents.. I looked at it and said "No Sir, still has the original tape" he goes to tell me what if it wasnt the right thing I ordered and told me to open it. I asked if he had anything to open it with and he told me I should have been prepared.. I took out my keys and started cutting into the tape.. I pulled out the item and asked him if he wanted me to open it.. lol the item was a figurine, which was in a clear case.. he looked at me like WTF... told me to go..

first time I had to open the box at the boarder.

The I didnt know about this.. but after that long walk, Im never going to use TSB anymore.. service was great but the walk is too far..

P2P parcel was great.. 10mins I was back... I also registered for In and Out.. but P2P was closer and I like to walk across, seems faster then waiting in line on both sides of the boarder...

Gerbs 10-14-2017 10:39 AM

I believe your supposed to check the contents inside before crossing. In case you got the wrong box and it magically had something illegal. They will think your trying to bring it over

You are like my co-worker. He declared down to the cents as well. His wife just roll her eyes.

I always round up and provide the amount

Border agent is 100% right. You always check the package at the shipping center before bringing it back. What if someone had smuggled cocaine or something in your box? You would've been liable for all that had it showed up when you opened the box.

I do the cents as well, with a stack of receipts to verify the charges. A few times I have been saying approx $400 or 500 whatever with family and friends in the car. The border guard gave me shit and was like "well is it close to 400 or closer to 500!? Approx is not good enough"

So now I just go with the cents, and they often think I'm a smart ass but better than getting hassled, rather play by the rules laid out.

Weird...I've never gotten any sort of shit from them when I declare down to the cents. I always have my invoice/receipts in hand as I tell them, so maybe they just take it as me being upfront and honest about it. It's weird because that's exactly what you're doing as well. Maybe you just look shady as fuck haha :lol

arm full of tattoo's & wearing metal mulisha.

Tr1ll 10-15-2017 05:39 PM

I just round up to the nearest dollar. Better to over declare than under..

underscore 10-16-2017 07:10 AM

Provide the amount, and have your receipts ready. We went shopping in Detroit once and bought tons of stuff, we declared everything but once the guy saw the stack of receipts in my moms hand he just told us to have a nice day and sent us on our way.
