How did you come up with that? It's a pretty good guess; the writer said this re: season 2 in an interview after the finale:

I didn't even see the post you made. I just figured New York will be a higher budget production cost, and with the fan and accolades they've been getting, they're bound to increase budget.

Secondly, the way they write, they can make any story and character amazing, regardless of gender or race.

The locations they filmed at really made this show great. Don't see something this great happening in the big apple.

Swamp and marshland helped make it seem like people just go missing and it's genuinely hard to find them.

I recall watching a behind the scenes clip on youtube and they talked about some people on staff grew up in the area and they would find such interesting places to film.

If the next one is in New York, I expect it to be like Seven. A big city could be just as awesome as the deep South.

rsx 03-10-2014 10:09 PM

^^ Yup I had the exact same vision. Dark, rainy, big city...it'll be awesome.

twitchyzero 03-11-2014 12:09 AM

big part of what drew me in is definitely the Louisiana setting...gorgeous/eerie at the same time which was critical to set the tone

I don't know where you got that from, but the writer of True Detective said that his accent was due to him teaching himself how to speak again after his dad burnt his face. He learned how to speak again from watching those old TV shows.

There was this idea that when he talks in his real voice, it’s very slurred because of the scarring. My background for him was that he learned how to enunciate properly through watching all these old VCR movies.

Perhaps different article but the quote I got was from an interview with the director as well.

Speaking of Se7en, guess who's rumoured to be in Season 2?

True Detective season 2: Brad Pitt being lined up to replace Matthew McConaughey - News - TV & Radio - The Independent

I might get flak for this but.....

Jake Gyllenhaal in Prisoners really impressed me....... I wouldn't mind seeing him take the roll and shadow the character he played in Prisoners. A very cocky young kid who thinks he's got things figured out. In most scenes where he's trying to calm down victims families he's almost pissed off that they are mad and holding back his frustration.

Only just got into this show and I love it. I've seen the most recent episodes as that's all I was able to catch on HBO so I need to go back and start at the beginning. Anyway, Vice just put out a nice episode on the back story the show is based on:
