Anyone else going to be watching this? Great cast and the trailer makes it look very good. I'll be tuning in tomorrow night!

Don't get HBO Canada :okay: so I'll be watching on torrentvision... little skeptical of the premise (doesn't sound all that original), but the star power is undeniable. Will definitely be checking it out!

EDIT: The timeline story telling is great.

Debating whether to start on it or binge watch in a couple of months. I hate waiting a week for new episodes lol.

i thought Matthew McConaughey's acting was solid like he was in dallas buyers club. and woodys character is like his no country role. very good on both accounts. the story telling with the flashbacks also well done. maybe this will fill the void left by breaking bad

it's an 8-part miniseries...unless they extended it like Boardwalk Empire or goes Anthology style like American Horror Story

HBO Lands Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson Cop Drama

Great first episode as stated - the end left me wanting more immediately. Good performances by McConaughey and Harrelson for sure, very interested to see what happened in the 10-ish years in the timeline.

This is the kinda show that gets you thinking for hours after the episode.

I really liked it. The back and forth timeline thing is pretty cool. Acting is solid all around.

Good episode, not as exciting as the first but obviously it was meant to show the flaws that both characters possess. Cohle's hallucinations were pretty interesting, and there were some thought provoking symbolism - IE: the children's dolls posed in a fucked up way.

A little slower this week but I like how Cohle's character is developing. His thing with barbiturates, his difficulty to cope with reality, hallucinations and general instability. It has kept me intrigued.

First episode I get the feeling that Martin is a family man........ except that seen where someone brings some papers for him to see..... then second episode you get to see what type of man he is...... Rust is passive aggressive as fuck.

pilot didn't do much for me...but i liked how the 2nd episode was set up. Should be a good series

Really, the character of Cohle makes the show.

As much as I wish I picked up on every single detail, I missed a bunch of points. Luckily, we have a summary:

The Tall Man
At the Friends of Christ Church, Cohle and Hart learn that some of the congregation saw Dora Lange when she attended services but hadn't seen her since. When she was there, however, she was with a tall man, possibly with shiny skin around his mouth. The detectives suspect the possibility of a burn victim, but an alert the local hospitals only brings them a burglar with an... interesting ritual. By the time the episode ends, the tall man appears to be a dead end, but I have my money on the green-eared spaghetti monster that chased the girl through the woods from the first episode making a comeback. Perhaps the girl took facial burns for spaghetti.

Another Victim
After burning the midnight oil in the the archives of the Louisiana State Police, Cohle finds a woman, Reanne Olivier, who supposedly drown. The circumstances around her death weren't suspect at the time, but all the detective in 1995 sees is the spiral design drawn on her body. Cohle convinces Hart that it's worth the trip out to see the Reanne's grandfather, who believes that she died in the manner that the official report described and gave the detectives the name Reggie Ledoux.

Tuttle
Here's the name that keeps coming up in suspicious places. The Louisiana Governor's cousin from last week's episode is becoming a character that's increasingly involved in the circumstances surrounding Dora Lange's death. Minister Theriot from the Friends of Christ Church studied under him at one of his schools. Tuttle's foundation ran the school that Reanne Olivier had previously attended. He's the one trying to get his own task force to take over the investigation. The name popped up twice in the latest episode, and at this point in the mystery, that's too many occurrences from him not be involved.

Reggie Ledoux
The characters in 2012 haven't exactly hid from the audience that Reanne Olivier's boyfriend, Reggie Ledoux, will play a key role in the investigation. Whether he's the man they determine murdered Dora Lange or whether he's the one in the gas mask at the end of the episode remain to be seen. What is clear is that Cohle and Hart are going to find themselves in a gunfight before long. Hart thinks that the modern-day investigators' lack of experience in such a situation will make the next part of the story less meaningful. It will be very meaningful to the viewers, however, if we get the see it go down in the next episode.

I'm enjoying this show so far.

I'll tell you what it is...it reminds me of the Hitman series, which I love. It's a weird, dirty, sexy world and the fact that it takes place in the south where people are even more fucked up just makes it better.

And the music reminds me of Jesper Kyd and his Hitman music with the Budapest orchestra.

Tonight's last sequence was one of the best written and directed scenes I've ever watched.
