^i didn’t sit in this. You can’t blame me for this one

This dude has some sharp side tits.

dark0821 05-06-2024 05:47 PM

Yea i saw the seats, yet I still think its a good deal.

normal insurance
somewhat not gonna kill you maintenance/upkeep
dare I say decent fuel economy
3 pedal gated manual
mid engine
AWD
naturally aspirated 8000 rpm V8
low to mid 4 second range (which i know is not fast)

The thing is, is this car ever going to be a $60,000 -> 25 yr old 150,000KM car?

I dunno man, if you think a V8 is gonna give you decent fuel economy.....

He can offset it by driving his Prius and Tesla :troll:

1.9 TDI swap :troll:

bcuzracecarz 05-06-2024 06:52 PM

Definitely won’t lose much driving that for a few years if you kept up the maintenance.

Badhobz 05-06-2024 07:40 PM

I thought these didn’t handle all that well. Besides the clink clink of the shifter, I don’t recall people saying these were all that great to drive. Plus out of the box it’s not a great sounding exhaust. If you put in an extra 10-15k I’m sure it’ll sound a lot better

And there’s a reason you don’t see these anymore. Probably an arm and a leg in maintenance costs.

Eh... a V8 Vett gets like 12-15 combined while a Gr86 gets 10-11.

They make some shockingly efficient V8's with gobs of tq and gearing to get mad milage.

I'll be daily driving a 10 speed Mustang GT in Vancouver in a week or two, will report back with mileage

FWIW I do expect the R8 to be more like 18 in the city, the good mileage would be on the highway.

EvoFire 05-07-2024 08:00 AM

I don't think the V8 in the R8 falls under the high torque camp, it's more of a high strung motor isn't it?

High torque doesn't necessarily mean good mileage

I've gotten better mileage in the 5.0 S550 than in the 5.7/6.4 "high torque" FCA motors; I think it's a couple factors
- OHC have less pumping losses and lower internal friction compared to pushrod
- Direct injection more efficient than the standard injection in the LS/HEMI motors

me

those don't even look too bad. Little clean up work and they're good to go. better than a shoddy repair attempt, or worse - a recover.

these V8 cars are absolute gems. quick and classy. There are lots of long term owners that have done very well w regards to maintenance (biggest thing seems to be suspension and I think we talked about it here already) WAY rather have this than a ratty lambo for 25-50k more (much more if you want a 3rd pedal)

i considered going all in on one, but would have had to sell the E36 also to do it.

tegra7 05-07-2024 12:24 PM

Dont know much about these but only 9k more than the r8

^ That's a much better way to spend $100k if you have to choose between the 2... I drove a V8 R8 for about a week and didn't think much of it, pretty boring as far as V8 powered mid-engine cars go. Barebones interior, didn't sound good, wasn't very fast, didn't handle particularly well... I dunno maybe I missed something but it was super meh.

there was one of those around north van in that colour that was rebuilt

noticed Jagbir spent more time smelling the fart in has ad, rather than mentioning the title status (other than specifically excluding that info from the about section)

EvoFire 05-07-2024 12:43 PM

The V8 R8, iirc Tofu said they were kind of slow compared to what I drive. The 4.2 doesn't make a ton of power and the hype is all about the clinky shifter.

JDMDreams 05-07-2024 12:59 PM

Just buy a Maserati, at least it sounds better going slow, and you have a Maserati key instead of Audi :troll:

AstulzerRZD 05-07-2024 01:24 PM

How fast do you really need to go in Vancouver; 40 over limit, no real open highways, narrow streets ....

68style 05-07-2024 01:34 PM

40 over limit... * laughing in impound fees *

There's lots of places to take fun trips to Mexico... at your own risk of course :)

You do have a point though, I ask myself this question with the Supra every couple of days. Was never really much of a concern with any other car I owned.

AstulzerRZD 05-07-2024 01:35 PM

Even the 5.0 stang felt too fast lol - prioritizing driving engagement / sound / experience is best for a van car

JDMDreams 05-07-2024 01:36 PM

It's not that hard, just get a few friends with walkie talkies, then scout a section of road.
