could put a motor in over weekend - tempting. these are so cool

JDMDreams 10-16-2025 12:14 PM

I was just about to post that, wonder how much a engine is, but I heard minis are a bitch to work on cuz no space, but I guess it doesn't matter cuz you have to take it apart anyways

The Producer 10-16-2025 12:27 PM

prob 2-3k? maybe less. spend another 2k on tune up parts/fresh clutch. the more you get w the motor the less needs to be moved over.

the packaging is tight, and TBH i haven't worked on these (my R56 was under warranty for my whole ownership). It's still just big kid lego though. Drop the motor out the bottom, dress up the wrecker block and zip it back in. In theory there's no wiring to do at all.

You should do it!!!
So I’m not tempted to…I mean it doesn’t count as a new car if it doesn’t run.
Also let’s see if he’s willing to play ball.

Is the 2-3k+ another 2k assumption based on DIY? How much labour would I be looking at?

JDMDreams 10-16-2025 04:28 PM

for sure that's DIY numbers. this guying is probably selling because the numbers just don't work at a shop.

what's a shop rate these days? 180/hr? more? i really don't know.

red kryptonite 10-16-2025 05:39 PM

Since I don’t know wtf I’m doing, I’m gonna pass.
Dodged a bullet there.

bcrdukes 10-16-2025 05:41 PM

Treat it like Lego. :troll:

AstulzerRZD 10-16-2025 06:51 PM

Did any of the M156 AMG cars drive better than the others?
My exp is the E63 drove worse than the later LX/LD Charger/Challenger.

Correct - it's getting expensive again to be a car enthusiast. There was a short amount of time where I stopped wrenching because it was cheap enough to not wrench.. but at $180/hr.. back to DIY-ing.

Do you guys actually pay by the hour? Isn't it by job, coughcashdeal price. I've never had any mechanic quote me by hour. :suspicious:
