Can barely suit up for a CFL team..chara and lucic be like, who?

Ronin 09-15-2014 02:22 PM

Yeah, Chad, you'd get your ass handed to you by either. Can he even stand on skates let alone fight?

Chad can headbutt, but that would get him suspended in the NHL... :troll:

24/7 moves to some network no one has ever heard of.

Quote:

And that’s of course why EPIX is willing to ante up for the NHL. Burnside writes that EPIX is available to 50 million subscribers. It’s still fighting for carriage deals – AT&T U-verse recently added it – and having a property like the NHL is important. Hockey fans are activists. If we want to see “EPIX Twenty-Faux/Seven” and don’t get the network, then we’re going to (announcer voice) “call our local cable provider” and ask for it.
Fuck off...are you kidding me? It's 2014. If something isn't on TV, you torrent that shit or wait for Netflix. "Ask your local cable provider" is something that only baby boomers might do. Get with the times, you dorks. Just give a production company $500k and then put that shit ON YOUTUBE.

Bush league elbow on Gaudreau by Corrado

https://vine.co/v/OaYwxTzJ0uz

68style 09-15-2014 11:01 PM

Well... in Corrado's defense, on a normal height player that would just be a chest shot pushing him back into the boards haha

Tegra_Devil 09-15-2014 11:06 PM

I wouldn't call that game a spanking, definately more of a bludgeoning.

The Flames have been at the bottom of the league for so many years they really should have better prospects then the Canucks ;)

my thoughts exactly. so with the canucks(NHL) being projected as a mediocre team for the next few seasons, you would hope they would have some quality prospect pools which they dont. so it looks to be mediocrity for a while until your playoff(contender) ready 5+ years down the road. your just hitting were calgary was 9 years ago. Dont get me wrong, i am not calling calgary a contender, i still think we have a couple years till we can actually be a threat for a cup(baring a cinderalla run). Though the canucks are trying to pull a 2005-2006 calgary by putting in pieces that they think they can improve them, but will most likely keep them average. The longer they keep trading for cog pieces, and not draft pics, the more years they will be out of the stanley cup picture. It took calgary 8 years to realize this....i hope it doesnt take the canucks that long

murd0c 09-16-2014 09:17 AM

the last couple of years they have stocked some really nice prospects but the previous 5 years of nothing doesn't help much. That being said they don't have many roster spots for rookies which hopefully will allow them to develop but we need to start tossing some young kids into the lineup to get some good experience.

But trading away core players for draft picks doesn't always work. Look at Edmonton or Buffalo...hell even Florida.

For the team to stay competitive, you need your core players, your leaders, and you have to have everyone to buy into the team. Not be like we're not making the playoffs anyways, lets plan our trip to Vegas.

Look at teams like Detroit or San Jose, they have aging core players (Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Kronwall / Thorton/ Marleau / Boyle (gone now). They retooled the team with Nyquist, Tartar, Hertl, Couture.

Tegra_Devil 09-16-2014 10:11 AM

I dont think vancouver should get rid of most of their core, yes there are a few that probably should go. But they are trading away picks and players and getting average players and worst pics.

San jose, won the lottery on Hertl, but yes, the rest were good pics.

Vancouver is not going to have a competitive cupboard, with a bunch of 5 round pics. I am not too sure where they stand in the next couple years in picks, but you need to get a couple 1st rounders in a draft year or a few 2nd rounders if possible..but they seem to have an influx of 4th and 5thers.

And from watching the games, I would say Bo and Hunter are still at least another year from being NHL ready, they were pretty invisible during the tourny. Hunter was the better of the 2 though, and their best player for the prospect canucks was curtis valk, and he isnt even drafted or signed to the canucks

Vancouvers prospect teams were pretty man handed by all three of the teams at the tourney. They just didnt seem to have the skill to match the oilers or jets speed, and certainly didnt have enough to match the flames size and speed.

If that's the worst thing that happens to Gaudreau in his NHL career, he'll be a lucky guy. Good thing he didn't play in the NHL prior to 2011 ...

Mike Oxbig 09-16-2014 10:52 AM

As much as the canuck suck trying to win the lottery... winnipeg, edmonton, ottawa, new jersey, calgary are still worst than Vancouver on paper :lol

paper isnt gonna help u compete this year, but u can use it to write golf scores down

Tegra_Devil 09-16-2014 11:18 AM

anyways, on a different topic, whats everyones views on analytics that is taking the nhl by storm?

do you think that it is useful as it is in MLB?

Grandmaster TSE 09-16-2014 12:02 PM

it will be in a few years

there isn't as much things quantitative in the NHL compared to the MLB. But given time they will find a way to weigh or scale and it should become a common practice with most teams

Jmac 09-16-2014 12:40 PM

The advanced stats aren't very advanced. Neither Corsi nor Fenwick really say much.

Liquid_o2 09-16-2014 02:44 PM

A lot of these "analytics" seem to be basic stats plugged into an excel sheet and turned into a graph. Maybe I should get hired by the Canucks since I can do basic excel modelling.

I think there is some value, but MLSE is making way too big of a deal over this, most likely due to the fact that they are grasping at straws by this point.

UFO 09-16-2014 03:25 PM

One of the things i read for hockey analytics says that the "better" hockey team wins a hockey game 23% of the time, the remaining 77% is up to chance and all the other variables. David Booth was and is a strong possession player and play driver, but we all know how that story plays out.

So yes advanced stats currently don't say a whole lot. They should be part of the equation for sure but should not be leaned on as THE driving force behind personel decisions, with what we currently know anyways
