I think the only “China tire” I’ve heard ok things about is west lake. Otherwise all the ones I’ve touched and installed feel like an $80 tire (when the same size Michelin is $250). In online tests, grip and wet/dry braking and stuff they always score very poorly. But they are cheap as hell so great for burnouts

My GF's mother bought Minerva all-weather tires a couple of weeks ago. Never heard of them, Googled them and could barely find any info aside from they're Belgian, but the tires are clearly stamped Made in China. They don't even come with a treadwear warranty and they were like $500 for a set of 4

I plan on picking up a set of 255/35/18 no name tires in the spring, $82 each. Don’t even remember the name of the brand but not really concerned. They are for my own experiment and curiosity, as well as for when I want to scumbag around. I’d much rather do donuts and smoke the yard on $82 tires and not $350 PSS lol

Even West Lake is pretty shitty. Super hard beads and super soft side walls. They're made by the same company as Goodride, just to give you an indication of their quality.

There's a reason why West Lake's OTR tires are a quarter of the price of a Yokohama, Bridgestone, or even BKT. Hell, I'm pretty sure our C-Casing retreads are more expensive than new West Lakes lol

im waiting to see some of these offshore tires come out with some aggressive high performace summer tires. i think the only brand to do somewhat recently was the nexen SUR4G or something like that. some people tried it and on track it wasn't as good as the typical NT-01, PSS, r888, rt-615k but the price is almost the same. so why bother getting them in the first place.

other than nexen (which really isn't that bad) you'll see a lot of subsidiary companies like ohtsu (which is owned by falken) and when the main brand retires a tread pattern, the subsidiary starts coming out with that old tread pattern and releases it at a cheaper price point. not bad depending on your uses

Federal 595RSR

Ran them on my Miata and no complaints at all. 90% of the performance of the comparable RE11 at the time for 50% of the cost.

Unless stock is a problem with the big brand and you need it right away, I'm not sure why anyone would even buy these Eskay / Joyroad / Noble / Antares / Minerva. Their prices are

All Weather Tires and Winter Tires currently available

The Minerva all-weathers in GF’s mom’s size are $115. No treadwear warranty.

Nordman WRs (rebadged WR G2s) are $15/tire more. Even CT’s Hankook Optima all-weathers go for less on sale (not great tires but likely better than some no warranty, Chinese piece of shit)

I bought a set of Zeta winter tires that are on their second season now, on a Civic. I can only compare them with General Altimax Arctics that I've used on a CR-V, but they perform just as well. Price point is only slightly lower than the Generals so that's not surprising.

Mentioned a few times, but depends what you will mostly drive on. Ws80 is amazing in snow, very soft compound and will wear down. Xice are better in dry/wet with ice and actually have a mileage warranty (only snow tire I believe) but are usually more expensive.

When my alpin pa4’s die I plan to get ws80 (or whatever it will be on a few years). I’d rather wear them out in their prime than to change them due to getting old and hard

I run the WS80 on my Accord V6 sedan. They've been good so far - only time I've been stuck is in super deep snow, got high centered but got out with a little digging. Grip on snow and ice is pretty good. NVH is good, a bit of low rumble as you accelerate then it settles at cruising speed. Sidewalls a bit soft but to be expected.

Drive the Sea to Sky almost weekly, from Burnaby to Pemberton, which means usually past Whistler I see much worse road conditions as the road maintenance contractor is not very good, plus less priority as there's less tourist traffic. Have been good in all conditions except torrential rain where it can be a little fishy over deep puddles. I should've slowed down anyways, was going too fast for conditions.

I drive the Sea to Sky to Pemberton almost weekly and I went for the WS80 over the Xi3 for the better snow/slush handling. My room mate has the Xi3 on his Matrix and he says that in slush/deeper snow it's not great.

We got the ws80 for the 08' Acura TSX, those tires work like a champ - been up to whistler, Cypress, Baker many times.

As well as, X-Ice 3 on the 15' Toyota Rav4, never had problem up in whistler, Big White, and Baker.

WS80 makes a little more road noise than the X ICE 3, couldn't really tell the difference in the snow otherwise for traction.

Spring - end of season clearance. Or September, when they clear out whatever remaining old stock they have from the year before.

i know we're only like 2 weeks into winter but looking at the long range predictions and the farmer's almanac, it feels like I'm not going to put KMs on my winter beater anytime soon.

The Hankooks aren't nearly as good as the WRs in snow as per the APA. If you're on a budget, consider the Toyo Celsius, Goodyear WeatherReady, and Hankook HA31.
