So I have updated to v.53 and now have a TAP-Windows Adapter V9 issue. I contacted support but keep having the same issue. I have tried deleting all drivers attached to that and fresh installs with no success. I have even gone through boot menu to 'Disable Driver Signature Enforcement'.

I am using Windows Vista for this computer with 32-bit...anyone else having this issue?

I received my Netgear R7000 router yesterday, and flashed it to Merlin. I applied the appropriate OpenVPN config file, and applied the CA certificate info.

Getting PIA working was a bit of a challenge due to the fact the router had to be rebooted for the changes to be properly applied. Now, all devices in the house are going through PIA via Merlin. Speed is good. I'm achieving 25Mb/s down, and 5Mb/s up on the speedtest, which is the max speeds for my plan. My only concern is what happens if the VPN drops. Will it just let traffic through, unencrypted? The PIA client has a kill switch, but I don't see a setting for it in Merlin.

Hey guys

Bear with me, not very tech savvy

Been using PIA since earlier this year, just using desktop client until recently.

Reflashed my rtn66-u to merlin, setup l2tp vpn, right now to us east. Did this because I finally signed up to netflix

Everything is fine except more often than not craigslist and walmart.com block the ip. Also wife has trouble sending email in outlook. As soon as I deactivate the vpn in router settings, she can send email no problem.

Which server does everyone have the best luck with? Does it really have to be a us one?

Thanks in advance

willystyle 12-06-2015 07:35 AM

I am no longer a PIA subscriber, but I'll do the best I can to help.

You can easily accomplish this with DD-WRT

Unfortunately, as far as I know, if it's not built within your setting, you will need to implement a custom script, which is a bitch if you're not a computer whiz, so do a search here and see what you can come up with.

Have you tried to "update and re-install TAP drivers" within the Start Menu?

You will need to keep trying different servers to see which one fits you best. It doesn't need to be a US server.

Presto 12-06-2015 08:41 AM

If your wife is using an email provided by your ISP, then you'll need to change the outgoing server settings. Most likely, enabling authentication should do it. Which ISP you using? There's usually support to configure email for use on the road.

Just upgraded to windows 10 and reinstalled PIA.
When i do a dns leak test, it shows I am in Vancouver.

Before my win10 upgrade (was on win7), dns leak test would pass.

Anybody else have this issue?

FerrariEnzo 12-12-2015 01:07 AM

Have you changed your DNS servers to a 3rd party like Google DNS or OpenDNS? If so, you should do it now.

NEVER USE ISP DNS SERVERS!

Sounds like you got a DNS leak. Read my response above.

Use Google's DNS as well - 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Or OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Test both to see which is more responsive. For me it's google

You need to secure your DNS as well as your connection with a VPN in order to be protected.

My router's DNS settings were on 3rd party but for some reason didn't work.
I changed it to PIA's DNS settings and now it looks like it's all back to normal!

What exactly did it show during your DNS leak test prior?

uhh how do i do what you just said?

is it in PIA settings? or router settings.. LOL

SkinnyPupp 12-17-2015 07:56 AM

You can set it up at the router level, just look up instructions for your model

Ulic Qel-Droma 12-17-2015 09:32 AM

can u explain more in depth for us networking idiots out here...

what exactly is the DNS doing... and when you say "test for responsiveness"... what exactly do you mean, and how are you doing it?

BASIC NETWORKING 101

The DNS is like an internet address book. It hosts all the IP addresses of internet sites on this planet. Every time you type in an URL and wish to access that site. Your computer will make a request to a DNS server to retrieve the IP address of that site (for ex. Facebook.com).

The problem is, if you are torrenting or doing other illegal activities on a VPN without proper DNS setup (meaning you are using your ISP's DNS). The authority can cross reference your VPN's IP address back to your ISP's DNS server, tracing back to you, as your ISP knows the VPN IP address that you connected to. Also, ISP DNS are usually not as fast as OpenDNS/Google DNS, nor as secure to protect your identity and on many occasions, leak your IP address while you're requesting the DNS server to query a server IP address.

Hence, this is why you're caught.

when using dnsleaktest.com, the location would show as wherever i set PIA to be; but an extended test would result in me being located in Burnaby under Shaw ISP.

i currently use Shaw's cisco DPC3825 router and changed the dns to what PIA provided. dnsleaktest location still shows wherever i set it as; but extended test now says I'm in "Choopa, LLC"

Anyone have v.53 PIA install files for OSX? After installing v.55 I can't access anything on my network. Only can access the Internet. When I disconnect from PIA the. I can access the local network. Lots of other people having the same problem on OS X and windows.

Presto 01-04-2016 04:22 PM

If anyone is interested in giving PIA a go, you can use my credentials. They expire on the 8th. I've already moved onto my new subscription. PM me for the login details.

chouchou 02-15-2016 12:53 PM

So my PIA subscription expires today.. am wondering if it's a good price at 39.95US/year. I think over boxing day it was 58US/2 years or something..........

syee 02-15-2016 01:33 PM

I'd be interested in finding out if there are any recommended local (Canadian) options. Haven't had any issues with PIA, just looking for options that are billed in CDN for some consistency in cost.

They seem to pop up on group deals from time to time. For reference, I purchased a PIA 2-year subscription, at the beginning of December, for 2 years @ $51 USD.
