From Sportsnet:

Quote:

Key acquisitions: Adam Cracknell, Brandon Sutter, Brandon Prust, Blair Jones, Matt Bartkowski.

Key departures: Nick Bonino, Adam Clendening, Shawn Matthias, Zack Kassian, Brad Richardson, Kevin Bieksa, Eddie Lack.
That is a depressing list of acquisitions compared to departures. We really need our young guys to step it up and fill the holes.

CRS 09-11-2015 11:41 AM

I feel like a broken record but guys, we WANT our young guys to fill in the holes.

UFO 09-11-2015 02:04 PM

Exact Canuck fan logic:

"our team is old, we have no young players and superstars. Our team sucks. Fire the GM"

"why the hell did we let Richardson and Matthias go? Our team sucks. Fire the GM"

Liquid_o2 09-11-2015 02:28 PM

Aside from Bieksa, nobody was really old on that list.

Mike Oxbig 09-11-2015 02:57 PM

What about Andrej Meszaros former Vancouver giant lol still UFA

68style 09-11-2015 03:31 PM

He wanted $4 mill to play in Buffalo last year and sucked... No thanks

bossha 09-11-2015 03:36 PM

Canucks fans better enjoy that hit, because that was the only highlight they had the whole game. What a blowout

Virtanen made a nice move..
Virtanen threw a hit on Nurse...
That Mackenzie Stewart guy threw some hits..

..
...
....

Darnell Nurse is gonna be a fucking beast for the oilers.

Hondaracer 09-12-2015 07:21 AM

Listened to most of the game on the drive up to the cabin

Virtanens name was said by far the most, fairly promising by the sounds of it

Gaunce however, didn't even know he was playing until he scored lol

Ikkaku 09-12-2015 07:58 AM

Virtanen had some pretty decent opportunities...a few of them he tried to power his way in. He still needs to refine his puck control while in front of the net though.

I thought McCann also played pretty well. He showed his speed and creativity throughout. It's too bad he missed the net on his rocket of a shot, while on a 3 on 1, which lead to a goal against us lol.

Hutton looked solid for us, but the own goal was pretty unfortunate.

Brisebois needs to gain some confidence. He hesitated quite a few times even though positionally he was there.

Zhukenov... Didn't really get to see him play much offence, but defense wise he's pretty bad. Looks like he tries to body his check when he should be trying to clog the passing lane. Here's to hoping he develops into a better defender than Ovie lol

Not trying to make a lame excuse, but I would expect the Oilers to have more young talent than the Canucks.

Oilers draft history since 2010:

2015 - 1st pick overall
2014 - 3rd pick overall
2013 - 7th pick overall
2012 - 1st pick overall
2011 - 1st pick overall
2010 - 1st pick overall

Canucks:
2015 - 23rd pick overall
2014 - 6th pick overall
2013 - 9th pick overall
2012 - 26th pick overall
2011 - 29th pick overall
2010 - 115th pick overall

Jmac 09-12-2015 08:23 AM

Plus it's a Young Stars tournament. It's nice to watch hockey again, but none of these guys are in mid-season form. Many of them are fairly raw and need years of coaching and training.

Tim Budong 09-12-2015 08:27 AM

and this is a tournament where i expect to see some of the already AHL guys step it up
guys like Shinkarik, Sam bennett, Gaunce... or even ben hutton, guys that came up from the ncaa ranks

Mike Oxbig 09-12-2015 12:04 PM

Virtanen plays similar like perry

Guess we will have to see how the flames fair tonight to see if that excuse is valid ;)

Tegra_Devil 09-12-2015 07:00 PM

Flames domination so far....

Tim Budong 09-12-2015 08:39 PM
