Willie's Pro/Con list

Cons:
No hand-eye co-ordination
Can't win a puck battle to save his life
Can't win a faceoff
Sub-par defensive awareness
Slow
Small

Pros:
Played for Medicine Hat while Willie was coach there

Shinkaruk has outperformed the shit out of him in basically every aspect and he'll be lucky to be a top 6 AHLer this year ... Yet Vey is basically guaranteed 60+ NHL games and probably PP time

Jmac 09-25-2015 07:28 PM

I'm liking Pedan. Big, tough, seems to play solid D, apparently has a rocket of a slapper (from what I've heard; I don't think he's shot the puck yet).

Corrado has been pretty disappointing so far this pre-season. The Sbisa-Corrado pairing has been torched.

Bartkowski looks pretty decent.

tarobbt 09-25-2015 07:34 PM

The day the Sedins retire is going to be rough...

Sbisa and Vey...

Benning better trade them away before they become worthless

Jmac 09-25-2015 07:40 PM

Vey gives Russel a free pass to the front of the net.

d1gbick 09-25-2015 07:50 PM

heres a safe playnow pick

Winner of the calder
I think its safe to say its either McDavid or Eichel

McDavid at 2.25 Eichel at 5

($100 bet on each, McDavid wins it you are up $125, Eichel takes it then $400)

I think this is easy money with both guys getting top minutes and you are betting that there's no freak injuries here. Next 2 who could possibly take it at Bennett/Reinhart. Reinhart will be playing behind Eichel

Not really racist! 09-25-2015 08:24 PM

and so it begins... :p

xxxrsxxx 09-25-2015 08:42 PM

Well if you bet $100 on each then it will cost you $200 total.
Mcdavid will win you $25 and Eichel will win you $300.

and if a dark horse comes out of the blue, you win $0.

Jmac 09-25-2015 09:21 PM

I see the same thing as you, and I'm not on Vey's bandwagon by any means... But at the same time I don't really expect him to play hard in the pre-season given that he's already been guaranteed a spot on the team. None of the regular guys are really trying out there.

I just hope someone besides Willie has control over his "leash" when the season starts and he shows something... and if he doesn't, someone else prods Willie in a more proactive direction.

Was watching the game yesterday the thing I noticed in the first period with vey is he couldnt make a simple tape to tape pass. Vey tried to make pass to I think it was weber they were probably 5ft away from each other and vey completely missed him...it shit like this that piss me off...Theres noway he should be centring the 4th line with two grinders on his wing. Plus there is no room for him in the top 9 just dont see where this plug fits on the team!

The problem with that is that the pre-season is when jobs are supposed to be competed for. There shouldn't already be 20+ secured jobs on a 23-man roster 1 week into the pre-season. It seems like the coaches and management had already decided our starting lineup before training camp started.

highfive 09-26-2015 10:56 AM

The only reason I see why they even bother playing Vey is that he was our only right handed centre last season.

I think with Sutter taking the right handed faceoffs this season, Vey can easily lose his 4C to Gaunce.

Nabatron 09-26-2015 11:01 AM

Doesnt matter if vey is right handed, left handed, both handed he is garbage and JB fucked up on that trade. Should have just drafted some prospect instead of vey! Really would have like lappiere back on the 4th line. It would be the ultimate shit disturb line in the NHL..

Would love to see that happen but Gaunce has been converted to a winger now since playing in Utica.

Not sure if its permanent or not but he hasn't been playing as a center for awhile now (correct me if I'm wrong)

The likelihood of that happen is very slim, though. The only way another player not named McDavid or Eichel win the Calder is if both of them are injured for significant amounts of time. McDavid will play 2C and Eichel will be playing 1C. They're both being given every possible opportunity to win.

radioman 09-26-2015 04:05 PM

Shinkaruk sent down

Even in the game in Colwood, they had him on a line with Prust and someone else at one point and they had Prust playing centre.

Hondaracer 09-26-2015 04:26 PM

if Vey has a guaranteed spot on this roster as some seem to perceive the organization is fucking stupid.

Do you see any signs that he isn't? He's been pencilled in as the 4th line centre since the end of last season as far as I can see.
