I dunno what to tell you Less than 1 year old.... less than 8,000KM and my Prime broke down.... Now it is on the stupid quick release trickle charger that I spent my own money on....once every 1 to 2 weeks to keep the 12V topped up..... So... its OLDER Toyota/Lexus products that wont leave you stranded... my stupid car was fortunate to leave me stranded at my house... lmao...do you call stranded if you are still at home? https://i.imgur.com/bxLhU1m.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/vF5UlAD.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/H7HkFlC.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/b3q54Uw.jpeg |
hmmm ... my thoughts on the Prius Prime has changed. I thought they were the standard on PHEV since it's Toyota and the Prius has been around for so long. But I wonder if this is a common thing or if this is one off, I do see a reddit thread on it though. |
Seems like all manufacturers have 12v issues on EV/PHEV. Only thing worse is that germans use lithium ion 12v batteries for $$$. Modern cars are all unreliable! Time to get a range rover! |

All these new EV's / PHEV's are such garbage. |
Model 3 has been fine:pokerface: |

Why need for tow? Can't jump it? I dunno these modern car electronics lol. |
The X5 shouldn't have died, but from my research it seems like BMW has a bad batch of 12V batteries and some are being replaced as early as 10k. The battery has a bad cell and the system would stop charging it and eventually it runs out of juice. |
Hopefully that means it's a simple fix and won't reappear again in the future. Still sucks to find out the hard way though... |

Do you still intend to keep the car knowing this happened and could happen again? |
There isn't a good alternative.... maybe RAV4 Prime? So far the remedy is I have a trickle charger with a fast disconnect so I top up every 2 weeks or so.... The ghost drain is for the new prime only, because there is an app, and it communicates with the server every X min with a status update... lolol yaaapppp |
If that truly is the root cause, it should be a very low power draw. Either that or Toyota or their third-party software development company hasn't optimized power consumption for that. I'm not familiar with the RAV4 Prime, but are you sure you want to move to another hybrid Toyota given this situation? I think most people would have written it off by now. Unless...you are a glutton for punishment. :suspicious: |
Honestly its just market for resale value... there are "better" cars, but nothing touches the resale or trade-in value with the name plate Toyota and Prius.... So its a rational choice than anything else.... Of course I was very lucky with the market, but I drove my last Prius Prime for free.. I bought it originally for $36K all in... and after 2 years and like 19,000KM, the trade was $31,500 + tax savings which amounted to $35,280 lolol and then Toyota turned around and sold my trade in for $37,995 I know I wont repeat the same feat with the new Prius... but damn...pretty sure that was the 1 time I drove for free somewhat... lolol Plus my employee status got me the new prime at MSRP with no fees, though I think now you can get one below MSRP? That's what I been told that Prius Prime can be dicounted now... |

Yea the interior looks pretty mid compared how styled the outside is |
Thing is, I like screens; I like new interiors. But the Palisade/Ioniq 9 at NY auto show felt like a serious downgrade from previous gen. I suspect the styling of the new Palisade will make up for it sales wise though. https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod...ec7246d15a.jpg https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod...505d5568a9.jpg Compare to previous gen: https://dealerinspire-image-library-...7Mitk5HmYe.jpg |
I really like what Hyundai has been doing except that, with the exception of the Ioniq5, they are all fucking ugly cars. My wife won't consider any Hyundais (except the Ioniq5) b/c she finds all of them repulsive (to varying degrees). OTOH, the Telluride and EV9 look pretty good. |
