Standard RWD Model Y for $50K.. Unlike the previous version they stripped a ton of features on this one. Not worth it and VW Bangbus is the better value.

Shouldn't you just consider a slightly used one, even not that old model x s is $70000 and under 17 and older can be had all day every day under $40000 and some come with free super charging:considered:

Got to test the gen 2 R1S today, the new UI is pretty good, the Universal Hands Free worked pretty well even in the crappy weather and 835hp is always a hoot.

Well tuned controls and regen braking, the active roll stabilization is impressive. I like it overall but damn the price.

bcrdukes 01-10-2026 05:34 PM

Oh, I thought R1S - Yamaha R1. :okay:

I was interested, until I saw a lightly optioned R1T dual motor was 145k before tax. Maybe not.

Apparently there's 40% tariffs (?) on the Rivian since it's made in the USA.

I remember they were ~100K pre-tariff war.

RabidRat 01-11-2026 08:59 AM

Yep. I got mine for $90k with rebates.

dark0821 01-11-2026 09:07 AM

EvoFire be like.... $150K is a bit rich... especially when my wife is doing the heavy lifting...

Come on guys, find EvoFire a job, so I can see him in his GT3... its my only chance... since hobz is probably not getting a beetle...

bcrdukes 01-11-2026 09:14 AM

Why don't you be a brother and hook him up as a fellow bus driver?

dark0821 01-11-2026 09:21 AM

its way to blue collar for him... lol i offered

EvoFire 01-11-2026 09:38 AM

I'm too pampered to be a bus driver.

Surprisingly, there's almost no used Rivians for sale. None of FB and 1 R1S and 1 R1T on Craigs.

We still haven't test driven the Rivian yet, one of these days.

JDMDreams 01-11-2026 10:10 AM

No mo bmws? Few year old x5 x7 ml63 gls63 are pretty cheap around $50000

EvoFire 01-11-2026 10:19 AM

I'm not married to BMWs, but they do check most of the boxes we are looking for, and tbh we've narrowed it down to another X5 PHEV or iX 50 unless a really good deal comes up for a Rivian R1S.

But all that is moot because I need to sign a new job first.

JDMDreams 01-11-2026 10:58 AM

^^ but you need to embrace Canadian culture by receiving government benefits

EvoFire 01-11-2026 11:44 AM

EI is a bit of a joke considering my income vs actual EI payments. Still I applied for it, it's better than nothing and I should at least get some of the money back that I put into EI over the years. I've only drawn EI once for 2 months over the 13 years since I've worked FT.

I've noticed that because of tariffs the US built german luxury SUV prices are approaching the price of land rover. Usually range rover has a big price delta but now the range rover sport is equal price to X5 and range rover sport SV is cheaper than the X5M. But both are cheaper than a cayenne lmao

EvoFire 01-11-2026 12:28 PM

The X5 got a bump in price ($2000 iirc) on Jan 1st. The dealer states they are making no money on each sale and corporate has clawed back all the profits on the X3, X5, and X7. It just helps share the operating costs for the shop. I don't know if I buy that statement but they are definitely hurting. Both MB and BMW build most of the SUVs in the states.

BMW builds the X3, X5, and X7 in Spartanburg. The X1 and iX are built in Europe. In addition to that all the 2 series we get here should be built in Mexico.

Badhobz 01-11-2026 05:11 PM

Just get an RX!!! Reliability is key for a wifemobile, no headaches! (although the canadian made RX will probably rattle and squeak a bit, get the hybrid RX and let her drive it into the ground)

Isn't the RR likely to be wildly unreliable though?

There's a few on Autotrader, but yeah not a lot on FB/Craigs. TBF Craigs is dead.

You should hit up one of the Rivian demo days.

bcedhk 01-12-2026 08:52 AM

30k (after tax) budget. Car is for in-laws who are in their 60's who never had an EV but previously had a lexus ES and E class

Should I go for an early facelifted model S (free supercharging 4 life) with low 100k's or a 2020+ model 3 under 80k?
