But they do! :)

Polestar just ran a $25k discount on the Polestar 3 over the last two months.

And I had a $20k preorder discount on my R1T.

The key is to be better at bargain hunting than the next guy, so that you can stay ahead of the depreciation curve!

Well, perhaps you should put your world-class negotiation skills to use by telling Carney to step aside and overcome Trump’s whack-a-mole economics and political policies.

twitchyzero 08-10-2025 12:11 AM

needa bigger vehicle: should i trade my small ICE in for a depreciated EV?

or sell it then lease one; are dealers trying to move volume as the US tax credit is expiring? does that impact our market quite a bit?

ex30 left such great driving impression; does anything else drive like it? maybe just slightly bigger haha

I don't think it's all that world-class when the discounts are advertised right on the manufacturer's website :p. Just gotta keep an eye out.

For 2026 the cheapest hybrid version they have is still $55k all-in (sport) with the Touring at $61k all in. None of which come with a panoramic sunroof or ventilated seats! CR-Vs are now a lot more expensive than their competition - a loaded RAV4, CX-5 or Rogue is in the low-mid 50s all-in for example but it doesn't seem to affect their sales much at all.

I checked out how much a base RDX goes for and because of incentives you can get one for $63k all in - just $2k more - yikes to the CR-V's pricing.

Isn't that the right way to do it? Small overlap so when you are getting a loaded CRV, you'd think oh I'll get a RDX instead. But a base RDX is going to be missing some niceties and they'll want to spend even more.

That just a little bit mindset is hard to beat, that's how I ended up in a M3

That would've been horrible, except that I'd stacked:
  1. $1k dealership haggling
  2. $15k corporate discount
  3. $6k Costco rebate
  4. $10k US federal EV rebate
  5. $1.4k San Mateo county EV rebate
  6. $1.1k PG&E power company EV rebate
=$35k in discounts

So the depreciation was only $5k over 5 years, which means EVs do hold their value!! :)

That's still $40k in depreciation, you just only had to eat $5k of it thanks to the discounts.

This (to me) depends on:
1. How much you plan on using this vehicle per year
2. Whether you can charge at home to cover your everyday use
3. How long you plan to keep the vehicle

We don't get the aggressive incentives that the US enjoys, so don't expect to get those crazy lease deals you see on TikTok / Reels. I think the only exception we got here is/was the 500e.

What did you enjoy from the EX30's driving impression? If it's acceleration, I think the Model Y Performance is the next closest thing in Canada, or an EV6 GT that I've seen hovering around $50k.

Polestar 2 big enough? You can even option these with Ohlins.

There was a $15k incentive on these (in Canada, not in the US):
https://www.polestar.com/en-ca/offer...2025-conquest/

It ended 2 weeks ago, but it might come back, given that the PS3 $25k incentive is back again.

Id only recommend an EV if you have regular access to charging. What's your budget?

Used EVs seem to be the best value right now. Bmw i4, vw id4, mach e, polestar 2, tesla model 3/y, chevrolet bolt, etc. All of these can be had for mid 30s to 40 except for the Bmw i4. Wouldn't recommend the Hyundai or kia evs because of the ICCU issues which is too bad because they do seem like nice cars.

RDI Detailing near Ironwood is not too far from the auto mall. The dude charges a premium but does a good job.

Roman will take good care of them - they're in Richmond too.

Whoops - didn't see that Radeonboy beat me to it. Double upvote for Roman.
