people gotta remember with euro prospects it can take them longer because of the physicality and ice size difference.
Mikael only really starting to hit his potential now, maybe markus will hit that next year?

Mikael was always the skilled one...he was already a 40+ pt player in his second season with some missed games

If Markus becomes a consistent 20 goal / 45 pt player, JB easily wins that Shinkaruk trade.
And he didn't do as bad as we make fun of him for having the wrong Granlund

Shinkaruk has regressed in his development this year. Obviously the Canucks saw something in him that they didn't like from a player development perspective.

I'll never forgive Benning for that Sutter deal though. God damn.

I don't think the Sutter deal was that bad.
Up until his injury, Sutter was a beast in the faceoff dot. while not getting you as many points as other players, he is tops for what the Nucks needed.
Just look at Bo, and how much better he is this year not being forced to take all important draws.
Keep in mind, Hank isn't the same player as he was in 2011 and wasn't planned on taking too many defensive draws.

I just realized that the Canucks had two 2nd round picks in the 2016 draft. One of their own, 33rd overall, and 55th overall (Anaheim's from the Bieksa trade).

Instead we ended up with neither of the picks, also lost Bonino and McCann and a 4th, and got back shitty Sutter and Gudbranson and a 3rd.

I sure would have rather had the two 2nd rounders in a deep 2016 draft. Our prospect pool would be even that much better.

^gudbrandon only 25. Sutter 28

I'd give them a bit more time before saying they're not worth the trade. Sutter has more points than $6 million man loui.

Gudbranson I'm ok with. Not a great deal.

Sutter is 28, exactly. He is supposed to be in his prime. This is his 9th NHL season. Most nights I barely realize he is playing. If he was 23 I would cut him some slack.

Again, your expectations on Sutter are too high. He is a solid 3rd line center who can help put up some points.
He is there to help kill penalties and take faceoffs.
But for the past few games, he has been playing wrist.

I have less faith with Gudbranson. Not even sure how he was rated so high in his draft and there is something to be said about Florida to trade him away. Oh the irony for his 300 game speech earlier this season.
Guddy's ceiling, at the current time is the same as Sbisa. That's how sad it is.

yeah sutter is barely good enough to be our 4th line centre. Im not going to lie but I like chaput better then sutter. At least chaput plays hard every game and sutter well he has no playmaking skills, the only thing he is good at is skating and faceoffs.

When does his contract expire?

Bonino, Clendening and a 2nd round pick, accompanied with a 5 year 22 million dollar deal would argue that logic.

I honestly would have kept bonino instead of sutter. Yeah bonino isn't the best skater but he does have quick hands and was fucking way cheaper then sutter younger too.

He's in the 1st year of his 5-year, $21.875M contract with a full NTC for the first 3 years, limited NTC for the last 2 years.

I'm sure Bonino would have wanted to play for Pittsburgh instead. He has a Stanley Cup ring thanks partly to Dim Jim.

Remember that Punjabi play by play announcer who called Bonino's goal during the Stanley Cup Final?

Bonino, Bonino, Bonino, Bo Nii Noooooooooo! What a epic call!

I know the draft is a lottery, but still. All we had to do was lose the last 3 games of the season and we would have picked no worse than 3rd.
Uh, no.

The Canucks only won one of their last 3 games (the final game, after Columbus had already won and made it so it wouldn't matter if they won or lost that game).

Also, even assuming we outsucked Edmonton down the stretch, we would've picked 4th.

The irony here is that if the Canucks WON those 3 games, they would've got the 3rd pick via the lottery.

Bonino was an obvious poor fit with what the Nucks wanted.
Even right now, Bonino has 29 pts and a 48.2 faceoff winning %.
Sutter has a 54.8 winning percentage this year, and Bo has risen his to 51.2% from last year's 50.9%
Having Sutter to take defensive draws has allowed Bo to focus on his offensive game.

Clendening was an obvious bad trade and JB was looking to offload his contract. Currently, this season, he has only played 27 games with the Rangers, after playing for Pittsburgh and Edmonton last year.

Remember, JB was trying to fast track the Canucks "retool" by filling in that 24-28 year old age gap that was left empty by Gillis trading away many picks or poor drafting.

I'm not saying the Sutter trade was a great trade, but it isn't as bad as you make it out to be.

Sorry, I meant the 3 wins in California.
We were that close to being the worst in the league.

Sutter is a good solid player which takes the pressure off of Bo which is all that really matters. I don't mind that trade at all since he needed a player like him at the time and now.

Except when Willie kept trying to play Sutter on the wing with the Twins and still exposing Bo to bad matchups.

theres another college free agent available. He is about on the smaller side but doesn't hurt to keep adding prospect to the group. I think he is devils property but if he doesn't since I think canucks will try to get him since he is from west van.

His name is Alex Kerfoot and he is playing for Harvard.
