Tanev is better than Barrie; not sure why we make that trade.

Ch28 07-04-2016 02:02 PM

Barrie's ability to the first pass would be awesome to have.

virtanen, subban and 2017 2nd for barrie is all id give

murd0c 07-04-2016 09:19 PM

I would be ok with that trade, I'm still not sold on Virtanen. This is going to be a big year for him which hopefully he won't have a soft-more slump.

Same with murd0c with not being sold on Virtanen. I still think he wasn't the BPA and the Canucks only picked him cause he's a local kid that would be good for PR.

Report: Canucks on the hunt for Tyson Barrie

Jmac 07-04-2016 10:27 PM

I wasn't a fan of the Virtanen pick, but Virtanen wasn't an off-the-board pick. The consensus was that it was a choice between him, Nylander, and Ehlers and there's no doubt that Virtanen has the best physical tools of that bunch, but the worst hockey sense. He wasn't going to make it out of the top 10 for sure.

Trading a 20-year-old Virtanen (plus) for a 25-year-old Barrie would, IMO, be a mistake. We can't keep trading rookies for older players and expect to get anywhere. It's a classic sell low, buy high scenario.

jdmhaze 07-04-2016 11:24 PM

I like Virtanen. He's got size, good skating ability, speed and not afraid to throw his weight around or drop the mitts. Obviously a Dim Jim type player so i don't see them even letting him go. Ill give him another season or two to sell me.

XplicitLuder 07-05-2016 05:37 AM

so we are only giving 19 year old prospects until they turn 21 before we call them a bust , if they are?? lulz. Guess we ain't going nowhere with our kids LUL

spideyv2 07-05-2016 05:43 AM

Just wondering, who would you guys have picked before Virtanen?

XplicitLuder 07-05-2016 06:07 AM

N Ehlers, W Nylander , and D Larkin were all picked after Jake, and I guess they seem to have more skill/scoring ability. I think Nylander would be my pick , but it's easy to say now that we know how they're turning out lol

jeedee 07-05-2016 06:50 AM

Virtanen was the right pick (at the time) and is more suited for the West compared to Ehlers or Nylander. It's still too early to write him off IMO

Considering Nylander and Ehlers get top 6/more minutes I'd like to see how they would do if their linemates were scrubs like Dorsett, Cracknell and Granlund :lol

6o4__boi 07-05-2016 07:23 AM

my choice for that year was Ehlers, Virtanen then Larkin
still too early to write him off but if he doesn't take a noticeable step forward this season he will definitely be wading into that bust territory.

highfive 07-05-2016 07:34 AM

And doesn't players like virtanen takes longer to develop?

Only issue I have is he's local and chances of him doing stupid shit locally with his friends are a lot higher.

Verdasco 07-05-2016 07:51 AM

what is the general consensus on Phil Kessel? From playing with the Maple Leafs (ded last) vs winning the Stanley Cup :lawl:

6o4__boi 07-05-2016 08:30 AM

neither like nor dislike Phil Kessel
i was there when he got drafted...the guy had a pretty loud entourage of some hot looking girls lol

I think on the Maple Leafs, he was looked upon as a leader, something he might not have been comfortable with. On the Penguins, he had less responsibility so he could just focus on playing hockey.

I woulda given the flames a 2nd rounder as well just to take him..

6o4__boi 07-05-2016 10:14 AM

oh yeah, don't get me wrong, i'm glad he's gone

but another example of a wasted pick...2 completely forgettable seasons
hopefully that pick (Roland McKeown) doesn't come back to bite us
(mobile, 6'2 Right Shot Dman drafted with that pick)
