If Canucks had picked PLD, then everyone would've been ranting about how he's a bust |

iirc MacKinnon and Rantanen are untouchable.
Landeskog will bounce back
As much as id like to fantasize on a deal thatd bring Duchene/Landeskog here...its pretty much impossible as whatever the Avs want will be too much for the Canucks.
Fucking PP was depressing to watch tonight. That one goal was pretty much scored towards the end of that pp.

^Another question is did Virtanen had a rough start at all?
It's not like he got the Linden Vey treatment and was thrown onto a top 6 role, offensive zone start, PP after PP, mistake and still gets playing time.
Jake was on the shortest leash with WD.
Question would be did Jake even get a chance to be impactful? Or did he just threw it away and just floated around?

Honest question:
Why would the Canucks go after Landeskog knowing what it would cost? His production is steadily declining (albeit on a terrible Avs team), and has had a few nicks that have cost him significant injury time. At this point in time, what makes him any different than waiting a year or two for JV18 to grow up and be a similar type of player? I always thought of Landeskog as somewhat overrated. Too soft for his alleged abrasive/annoying playing style. And he's not an elite scorer.
Duchene is a different animal. He'd automatically be a 1C on this team for the next 5 years or so. That said, the Vancouver price would start at one of Horvat/Boeser/Demko +++++++. Not worth it imo. Might as well just slum it in the bottom 10 and try to draft a first-line center with a potential lottery pick.

Because between Duchene and Landeskog, Landeskog is the realistic reach for Vancouver based on what they're asking for. I don't think he's overrated or too soft, he's got more sandpaper than the Canucks bottom six combined. How did you arrive at the conclusion? At the right team, he's a 60 point player imo. You do realize he's 24 right? Kid was made captain too early but he's got his head right. I agree he's not an elite scorer but he's a solid top 6 player that can do it all.
Virtanen? Will he grow up? I don't know. If you land a player like Landeskog, you know his head's already in the right place. There's no "waiting" for him to mature. Hell, the fact that he's been traded might just light a fire under his ass to go out there and re-establish himself.
Duchene is nice and all...but it's just not gonna happen.

Thought this was interesting:
“On another expiring contract, Vrbata is cheap ($1 million cap hit). He leads all Coyotes with nine goals and 15 assists. This week he fired his 44th career shootout goal, making him the most prolific shootout sniper of all-time."
-Sportsnet
Where was the most prolific shootout sniper while in a Canucks uniform? I can't recall him being very deadly :/

Vrbata checked out the in his second season because he knew how stupid WD was and is...If I can recall from last season he was pissed in the off season because WD was still tickering with the fucking line up when the season first started. Vrbata pretty much said that he doesn't even know who his line mates were except for the sedins...and we all know what happened when he didn't play with them

Duchene is nice and all...but it's just not gonna happen. | Yes I know he's only 24. Watching the odd Avs game on TV (and following his fantasy stats- yeah yeah I know but I'm not going to pretend that I watch all 82 Avs games), he doesn't pass the eye test as someone difficult to play against. I'll admit his overrating in my eyes is due to him being the team captain.
I'm going to assume that the majority of this forum is in the "draftist" pool. With that assumption, what's the point of accumulating young talent via the draft to only give up on them before they turn 21? This is the same thinking that sent Gustav Forsling out the door for someone "further along the development curve". Remember the outcry when Dim Jim made that deal and the subsequent backlash when he played actual NHL games 2 years after? If you ask me the upside of having him on the team vs. what the payment will be to secure his services is not as high as fans want to think. It doesn't make sense to give up on someone with Virtanen's skill set before he's had enough of an NHL look. He was practically gifted his spot this year, so let's see what he does when he has to earn it all over again.
Virtanen is a young rich kid. Some kids get it quickly (Toews Crosby Lucic for a direct comparison). Some guys get it late (easiest grab is Bertuzzi). A player like Landeskog will set the franchise back because of his cost but for what? A 60pt alleged sandpaper player? And that point total is on a "good team" so to speak? Would that be worth a top prospect + roster player/pick when one of those top prospects might fill that role by the time he's 24 (Virtanen)? The Canucks aren't in a position to win any cups in that time, so why not wait it out and see.
I'm not attacking you personally so please don't take it as such. I'm just curious as to why there's much chatter with Van fans wanting Landeskog. It seems to go against the general "rebuild instead of retool" thinking the thread and most of the city has. He's not a game-breaker, so why not be patient and let the young talent develop.

And I don't think that package nets you Duchene. That discussion starts with Horvat/Boeser I imagine, maybe even both.

@ m3thods
it's not being said out loud too much yet but i think the Canucks fanbase in general don't have a good outlook on JV working out
People mentioned Bertuzzi but even Bert showed some offensive potential in his first NHL season...18 goals, 39 pts. I can't even say Virtanen is a top-rated prospect anymore. He's a C+ - B- prospect right now at best.
JV's name being thrown around in an improbable trade scenario because of all the prospects we have, he's got the higher chance of bust. And frankly, because he hasn't done shit all here compared to his draft peers. Personally, I don't think he'll turn out. I've given Willie shit for mishandling him but just seeing him play in those limited minutes, and the lack of remarkable action in the minors tells me that this kid doesn't really want it enough.
Yeah it's the same line of thinking as Forsling but we all know building through the draft is never gonna happen as long as Aquaman is owner. It's such an unlikely trade, people are just throwing out names of players they prefer to see go based the supposed precedent set by previous offers.
For me anyway, it's just for shiggles, my proposal from the previous page is the most i'd do for a Landeskog deal. Hell, maybe Hutton if Gudbranson is unavailable. But i know that's not gonna cut it. A Landeskog deal would do more damage than good...unless it's with the pieces we could do without with. Ie. the Gudbransons, Huttons, Virtanens, based on the piece coming back (Landeskog). That's why it's being floated around.
tl;dr ...i think Landeskog is floating around in Van because, 1) he's the most affordable because of current slump, 2) because people seem to think we've got the pieces, 3) people know building through the draft isn't gonna happen, 4) we love our sandpaper players who can play a top 6

Only twelve years old, but coach should be spanked for letting her embellish beyond reason. And breathing needs to be worked on.
Other than that, she has a decent set of pipes. And, in tune. Good job!
