Are we going to see incidents of black market gas sold in white vans again?

Remember this news item back in 2013?

https://ca.style.yahoo.com/blogs/dai...201021865.html

The police call them mobile Molotov cocktails, with good reason.

Another suspected mobile black market gas van was involved in a minor collision this weekend, then burst into flames as the driver fled.

With some of the highest gasoline prices in Canada, Metro Vancouver apparently has become a lucrative place for black market fuel dispensed from rolling gas stations.

Two suspected mobile gas vans have crashed in the last month and police have arrested the drivers of two other similarly rigged vans.

The latest incident happened Sunday in suburban Surrey. An unmarked white van crashed into a pickup truck, then fled the scene. But it caught fire as it was driving away, then exploded. The driver managed to get clear and fled, according to CBC News.

Global News reported the burned-out van contained a large storage tank inside similar to one that exploded in a spectacular Oct. 7 crash on a residential street in Vancouver

With the restrictions lifting Oct1. I am sure more people will venture into US to fill up.

There is no "low gas light" on the dash for the NA miata, so the most I have put in is like 45L? And that was me scared shitless that my engine will die anytime.

I try not to go below half tank at any given time, but the perfect storm of good weather, motorcycle riding taking demo home to pick up clients the next shift all contributed to the miata being used like 5 times in September lol...

The NA has the same size tank as my M3 hahaha
But the M3 has a stupid small tank.

twitchyzero 09-30-2022 09:05 AM

nd miata only has 45L...i get 300 miles around town
s2k 50L but first click is at like 35L

Saw cheaper gas at a Chevron this morning in east Van. Corner of Rupert and East 1st Avenue.

WTF I filled up last night when it was 239.9, thinking it was going to go even higher, and then it drops by 12 cents...

JDMDreams 10-09-2022 04:31 PM

Yea it was $2.27 at petrol on Canada way and 10. Surprised as the bootleg budget gas up the street was $2.379. I thought they said it was gonna be over $2.5, I call shenanigans

Brief relief and shoot up to $2.60/L?

Calling $2.27/L ‘relief’ is EXACTLY what they want you to do. No. It’s not relief. It’s slightly less obvious extortion.

$1.49 would be some relief I think

Gerbs 10-10-2022 11:03 AM

Just got back from Meixco and we filled up the rental at $1.62/L CAD.

According to the below our taxes are 68.2cents per L so that puts us at $2.30/L. I don't think we'll ever see sub $2/L again lol

And that’s why I will happily keep going to PR to fill up. As long as I don’t break down at the gas station again at 1am hahah

How’s the savings with the strong USD? Less tax and better fuel mileage (I think?) are still probably worth it.

I have been filling up cheap premium gas for regular price. Instant $20-25 savings for a SUV.

320icar 10-10-2022 07:16 PM

It’s a meh savings. Prices also jumped up big in PR too. But so far in 2022 usually I fill the STi (65L) then also bring two 20L Jerry cans, and the bill comes out to similar to what just filling up the STi in Canada was, so almost like free Jerry cans

twitchyzero 10-10-2022 07:40 PM

2 cans is almost a full fill-up for my daily

PR is 5.9us/gal, damn

JDMDreams 10-11-2022 06:44 AM

2 cans is like 75% for my like 65l tank. I wonder that the price difference is between pr Bellingham and Blaine. I recall real USA was always cheaper than pr. Pr is usually about $0.3 to 0.4 cheaper than can as I fill 92.

BIC_BAWS 10-11-2022 06:59 AM

I found that Blaine was cheaper than Bellingham (and of course PR) in my experience. I've heard Birch Bay to be cheaper than Blaine, but I haven't tested this theory yet.

G0rilla 10-11-2022 07:08 AM

Never thought I would see the day where my Honda Fit cost the same to fill up as my R35 back then lol

Ouch. Last time I filled it was 5.9us/gal for my 92 premium. The savings is probably even less now than it used to be. So maybe my last post needs an addendum
