According to Wiki he got it approved to be a family mausoleum in 2015 as he wanted to buried there, so I think any tax breaks he'd get on the portion which is defined as the cemetery, probably happened back in 2015

^Oh ok, then it's not shitty.

Oh, wait, it still is.

He's also using the US Presidential Seal on his golf carts and towels and shit, as he played in a Saudi-Arabia sponsored tournament.

Fascinating (and insane) read about the inner politics between Trump and his military generals: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2...d-his-generals

Trump wishing his generals were more 'like the German generals in World war II':
Quote:

The President’s loud complaint to John Kelly one day was typical: “You fucking generals, why can’t you be like the German generals?”

“Which generals?” Kelly asked.

“The German generals in World War II,” Trump responded.

“You do know that they tried to kill Hitler three times and almost pulled it off?” Kelly said.

But, of course, Trump did not know that. “No, no, no, they were totally loyal to him,” the President replied. In his version of history, the generals of the Third Reich had been completely subservient to Hitler; this was the model he wanted for his military.
Regarding the BLM protest, before he did his photo-op in front of a church with his generals, advocating the military to shoot American civilian citizens:
Quote:

When Milley and the others resisted and said that the National Guard would be sufficient, Trump shouted, “You are all losers! You are all fucking losers!” Turning to Milley, Trump said, “Can’t you just shoot them? Just shoot them in the legs or something?”
The four, seemingly completely obvious, goals that the Joint Chief of Staff actually had to write down and remind himself over and over again as he worked under Trump:
Quote:

Milley put away the resignation letter in his desk and drew up a plan, a guide for how to get through the next few months. He settled on four goals: First, make sure Trump did not start an unnecessary war overseas. Second, make sure the military was not used in the streets against the American people for the purpose of keeping Trump in power. Third, maintain the military’s integrity. And, fourth, maintain his own integrity. In the months to come, Milley would refer back to the plan more times than he could count.
The military order to withdraw from Afghanistan, without approval of any active military official, but was rather drafted by a retired military general who often appeared on conservative TV, and overseen by a 30-year old aide:
Quote:

Two days after Esper was fired, Patel slid a piece of paper across the desk to Milley during a meeting with him and Miller. It was an order, with Trump’s trademark signature in black Sharpie, decreeing that all four thousand five hundred remaining troops in Afghanistan be withdrawn by January 15th, and that a contingent of fewer than a thousand troops on a counterterrorism mission in Somalia be pulled out by December 31st.

Milley was stunned. “Where’d you get this?” he said.

Patel said that it had just come from the White House.

“Did you advise the President to do this?” he asked Patel, who said no.

“Did you advise the President to do this?” he asked Miller, who said no.

“Well, then, who advised the President to do it?” Milley asked. “By law, I’m the President’s adviser on military action. How does this happen without me rendering my military opinion and advice?”

With that, he announced that he was putting on his dress uniform and going to the White House, where Milley and the others ended up in the office of the national-security adviser, Robert O’Brien.

“Where did this come from?” Milley demanded, putting the withdrawal order on O’Brien’s desk.

“I don’t know. I’ve never seen that before,” O’Brien said. “It doesn’t look like a White House memo.”

Keith Kellogg, a retired general serving as Pence’s national-security adviser, asked to see the document. “This is not the President,” he said. “The format’s not right. This is not done right.”

“Keith, you’ve got to be kidding me,” Milley said. “You’re telling me that someone’s forging the President of the United States’ signature?”

FBI executes search warrant at Trump's Mar-a-Lago, former President says

https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/08/polit...ump/index.html

Quote:

The FBI executed a search warrant on Monday at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, the former President confirmed to CNN.
Trump declined to say why the FBI agents were at Mar-a-Lago, but the former President said the raid was unannounced and "they even broke into my safe."
"My beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents," he said in a statement.

Trump was not in Florida at the time of the raid.

The Justice Department declined to comment, as did the White House.

CNN has reached out to the FBI for comment.
This story is breaking and will be updated.

If Humpty Trump flushed documents containing sensitive information down toilets at Mar A Lago, I hope that the FBI brought plumbers and other trades workers to check out the plumbing there. LUL

Or exhume his ex-wife's grave, see if she's even actually buried there... he probably faked that too

Republican politicians now want to defend the FBI. What happened to back the blue.

They don't care unless it happens to them.

68style 08-09-2022 10:42 AM

I know there's a lot of stupid acts by Democrat leaders... very much aware

but nothing... absolutely nothing is as shameful, hypocritical and ridiculous as the average Republican official these days... it would be hilarious if they weren't so serious about it

Speaking of stupid acts by Dem leaders, why did Nancy Pelosi have to go and visit Taiwan recently ... are there not enough shit happening in the world that you want to poke the poo bear ??!! Were you that bored or something?

Why not? Why should China control what countries a person can visit.

68style 08-09-2022 01:16 PM

I'm pro Taiwan through and through... I still thought it was a bit unnecessary given the state of the world. Doesn't seem like the best time to be middle fingering everyone.

Pelosi has been a staunch anti-CCP figure for a long, lonnnnng time -- at least some 40+ years.

On the overall scheme of things, I'd just say it is part of the US' overall foreign policy to secure their position in the Pacific region. At the same time, it can also be viewed as a somewhat personal thing for Pelosi as she establishes this trip as one of her legacies. She is likely retiring in the upcoming election, so if she doesn't go now (as House Speaker), she would never have that chance to do it anymore.

The US is adopting a containment strategy against China, and Taiwan is an integral part of that geopolitically, economically, and technologically. They are also trying to prevent a China invasion against Taiwan after seeing what Russia has done to Ukraine, so openly supporting Taiwan has become an important political agenda for the US.

Recall that Pelosi's visit was supposed to take place back in April. If it wasn't for her catching COVID, it would have happened already. Also, as soon as China came out to warn the US against having Pelosi visiting Taiwan, both the US and Pelosi pretty much have no choice but to make sure Pelosi visits Taiwan. As long as US remains the #1 superpower in the world, it would never be acceptable for the US to allow China to dictate what they can or cannot do as US foreign policy.

whitev70r 08-09-2022 02:42 PM

OK, someone school me on Taiwan. It appears that in the late 1800's, Taiwan was part of Japan and then at the end of WWII, as part of the surrender/treaty, Japan gives Taiwan back to China. Over the decades Taiwan became more independent and sees themselves as independent, China sees Taiwan as China.

What is the parallel, if any, say if Quebec wanted to separate from Canada and didn't really officially do it legally and properly ... then other countries be meddling into our nation's affairs declaring Quebec to be independent? In this case, I think most of us would tell foreign countries to eff off and mind their own business.

CivicBlues 08-09-2022 03:13 PM

^lol you're missing a huge chunk of the story there.

Maybe start with reading this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Civil_War

[Chinese History for Dummies] Basically in the first half of the 20th Century two factions were at war in China - The Nationalists (incumbent) and the Communists. After WWII the Japanese are defeated the Nationalists and Communists duke it out again with the Commies winning in 1949 and the Nationalists fleeing to Taiwan (recently handed back to China from Japan). The remnants of which form the government of Taiwan for the next few decades. Since the Nationalists were basically the Chinese government in exile Taiwan is officially known as the "Republic of China" (ROC) However the Communists People's Republic of China (PRC) sees themselves as the legitimate government of China since they hold 95% of it's territory. Most Western countries still recognized ROC as the legitimate government since they were staunchly anti-communist. In the 1970s Nixon visits China to thaw relations and to use their relationship as a counterweight to the Soviets - start to recognize PRC over the ROC. Most of the UN nations follow suit in the coming years and kick out the ROC out of the UN in favor of the PRC.

whitev70r 08-09-2022 04:39 PM

^ pretty concise but still pretty damn confusing. It still feels like a little bit of a family spat. And if UN chose PRC over ROC (led by the US in the 70's) ... then now it's coming back to roost.

CivicBlues 08-09-2022 04:46 PM

Hey it's basically how Canada was formed. British Loyalists (Nationalists) were kicked out of the 13 colonies and settled in Canada but in this case the upstart Patriots (Communists) started shit again few years later (War of 1812). The difference is we Canadians don't claim to be the legitimate government of the US :D

To try to make that analogy to work... Taking bias and politics out of it (as in, let's not say who has rightful claims, and whether you agree with their politics), it would be like if the territory we know today as Canada now was actually a Nationalist country known as Quebec. And then a communist group called Canada rose up and there was a civil war, which Canada eventually won with direct support of the Soviet Union. But Quebec escaped to its own province, set up some walls, and continued to exist there to this day. They have their own government, culture, etc, but the rest of Canada considers them just another province.

The UN decided to not officially recognize the sovereignty of Quebec, because dealing with Canada and USSR was too dangerous. Quebec kind of gets screwed, but the US promises to protect them if Canada actually decides to reclaim the province. So they exist in a weird limbo, where everyone knows what the deal is, but nobody can officially really do anything about it, or even mention them by name. If a Covid scientist says "Quebec is handling the pandemic well" then Canada will get really mad and tell him "Actually, they are Canada"

And so on

Trump may have fucked himself going after Hilary's emails
