Trump still has to win the primary.

Apparently, on avg, the President's party loses 26-27 seats in the house and 4 seats in the senate in the midterm elections.

Manic! 11-08-2022 11:08 PM

Dr Oz lost. I wonder how much of his own money he spent. Oprah brought him in then took him out by supporting his opponent.

whitev70r 11-09-2022 06:48 AM

Should the election deniers who won in the midterms last night accept the win?

so what does this mean? democrats lose control of the house & senate?\

i don't follow politics much so i'm confused how it works in the US

i don't even know why there's "midterms", why don't just vote once :lol

whitev70r 11-09-2022 07:14 AM

Strange democracy system in the US:
1. Presidential elections every 4 years.
2. House of Representative elections every 2 years so it always happens in the middle of a presidency and often a reflection of what the people think how well the Prez is doing. This is where that stat comes from, the Prez party on avg loses 26-27 seats.
3. Senators serve 6 yrs, are also voted (unlike Canada, appointed) and elections are put on a 2 year rotation so 1/3 of the Senates are up for elections every 2 years.

In 2020, Dems won the Presidency and the House. In the House of Representatives, there are 435 seats (218 is the key number to win control). In 2020, in the House, it was 222 Dems and 213 Republican. The Senate was tied at 50-50 however VP (Kamala Harris) cast deciding vote which means it leans slightly in Dem favour to pass anything.

In 2022, Dems could lose the house ... and/or the Senate, making the Prez a pretty lame duck Prez.

westopher 11-09-2022 07:49 AM

It’s how they maintain the status quo in the US. The system is essentially set up so nothing can really change, for better or worse I suppose, other than when the Supreme Court seems to get involved.

GLOW 11-09-2022 08:57 AM

so if both swing back to republicans as it sounds like it will per whitev70r's previous post dems may lose all those seats, does it matter who's president then? other than symbolically for those on the far right?

mikemhg 11-09-2022 10:18 AM

Republicans did quite poorly this election, seems to show that people aren't on board with the MAGA-heads.

This is one of the most successful midterms for a Democratic president in the country's history. Glad to see Fetterman get the win, Oz was a terrible candidate.

Georgia looks to be a runoff which doesn't bode well for Walker, it's crazy it was this close though, Walker could barely string together coherent sentences :lol

Lauren Boebert might lose here in Colorado as well, fucking hilarious.

The red wave didn't happen, but this election shows that people truly are calcified in their parties at this point, nothing really changed from 2020.

68style 11-09-2022 10:32 AM

I saw on late night they were calling the red wave a pink trickle :lol

inv4zn 11-09-2022 12:13 PM

Overall results are not as bad as some feared, but...

Matt Gaetz, re-elected. MTG, re-elected. Herschel fucking Walker almost winning and going to Runoff. Greg Abott, re-elected.

You really don't need any further proof that a significant number of Americans are just plain fucking stupid.

Boebert is out at least, but i doubt she'll stay quiet.

68style 11-09-2022 01:18 PM

How the fuck Gaetz keeps a job like this in the modern day world... it's honestly something worth studying. Nobody else could do what he's done and talk like he does and act like he does and still be employed especially in today's world.

Walker going to a runoff is an absolutely absurdity too... he's literally insane and somehow still allowed on a ticket.

What do you mean, they are the party of family values, duh.

SkinnyPupp 11-09-2022 03:28 PM

The abortion ban lit a fire under peoples' asses

inv4zn 11-10-2022 11:08 AM

Oh for fuck's sake, Boebert might actually win it.

mikemhg 11-10-2022 11:26 AM

The youth also came out in higher numbers then expected.

Of course Gaetz won, it's Florida.

The Republicans could cart out a literal bag of garbage and it would win in that state.

With all the gerrymandering Florida is pretty much a lost cause for the Dems going forward here.

It is quite interesting watching states like Nevada and Arizona start to change based on demographics though, more libs moving to these places (especially Arizona) nowadays.

Didn't take long for them to receive a lesson in election promises. :lol

Trump judge strikes down the program. Tribalism is on the rise, and it's here in Canada too unfortunately.

I'm surprised it got as close as it did. His opponent Beto, who has FAR more support than I thought he would, can't get far enough away from his stupid comment on taking people's AR-15s to make a big enough difference statewide.

I don't like the guy, personally. But I lean left so I voted for him because I think Abbot needs to go.

I hope we get a better gubernatorial candidate next time in Texas. The last time they had a Democratic governor was with a lady back in the 90s who, as I've said before, directly led to the election of George W. Bush as president.

Locally the Democrats did better in the key elections they needed to win, but Texas stayed as Red as you would expect it to.

The big takeaway is that you see less and less Trump flags these days. For "Red 'til I'm Dead" Texas, it feels like people have really latched on to Desantis as the 2024 hopeful.

While you're right, fucking Uvalde voted for Abbott.

What better way to sway younger voters than to constantly fuck them over!

Red wave! Red wave!
Fucking imbeciles.

SkinnyPupp 11-11-2022 03:34 PM

lol @ bragging about a Trump appointed judge trying to block student loan forgiveness. The kind of mentality it must take to think that way. For fucks sake lol FailFish

They'll appeal it anyway.

Bragging? Your reading comprehension is something special.

westopher 11-11-2022 04:20 PM

Lol your post history and comment is a lot easier to tell your smugness about "stickin it to the libs" than you think it is.

Badhobz 11-11-2022 07:34 PM

Looks like deSantis is becoming a potential gop front runner as everyone and their mother is abandoning trump.

whitev70r 11-11-2022 08:21 PM

^ let's hope you are right.
