Housing costs are also the driving factor behind homelessness and addiction. Without housing, you’re in a VERY tenuous position. And the govt. at all levels has failed on that. And as I said, go back to 2016 and the main points of the liberal parties platform was affordability and housing. I’m not sure how much longer we need to play this game of the govt. can do this, or they aren’t responsible for that. They are all to blame for where we are. |
One of the underlying things that I see is this. I can respectfully disagree with economic policies of Republicans (in fact, I might even think some are fiscally good) but fundamentally, I cannot stand a leader with such a serious character flaw as Trump. So if say, a decent Republican presidential candidate won ... so be it. The people have decided. I don't think I would be as troubled today. What baffles me is how a nation can choose someone to be their president with such deep character issues. When did we separate national leadership with a good decent person? |

I think both Trump and PP are total fucking clowns, and they’ve proven as such. However, I cannot bring myself to vote for the liberal party, and as a result, I must vote for PP. I think this was amplified 10 million fold in the states for this election. I guarantee you a fairly sizeable portion of the US population were trying to hold down their lunch as they marked their ballot red, however, many probably felt like that was the only choice to be made. |

The Americans definately set history, but it wasn't for electing their first Female President, it was for electing their first Felon president. First for everything I guess. Just not in the order I would have expected |

When you get the majority of the country, in both seats and popular vote, I think it’s a bit disingenuous to just say “everyone was ignorant!” |
It’s a fair statement. How many people actually voted? About 140 million? That means nearly 2/3rds of the population of the USA didn’t even vote at all… which I would say is the very definition of ignorance. Some of them aren’t old enough, but it’s still pretty sad. |
Par for the course for any election no? 1/3 actually seems pretty good lol |
Looking at the demos in an NBC exit poll Compared to 2020 Men overall voted about the same (45% Biden, 44% Harris) Women's vote went up 1% in share, but dropped support of Dems by 3%. Leaning on abortion rights clearly was a mistake. White vote share went up 4% and dropped for Dems by 2% Black vote share dropped 2% and their Dem vote share only went down 1% White men went from 38% Dem to 39%, white women 44% to 47%, Black men 79% to 78%, black women 90% to 92%. So the main American demographics voted roughly the same, slightly ditching Harris or not voting at all. However: Latino vote share stayed about the same, but dropped from 65% Biden to 53% Harris. Asian vote share about the same, but Dem support dropped from 61% to 53% "Other" Dem support dropped from 55% to 43% The biggest drop of all was Latino men, going from 59% Biden to 44% Harris Was this all about the economy for these people too I wonder? The non whites/blacks all switched from Joe Biden to the racist anti immigrant guy! Sleepy Joe should have stayed in the race. Probably would have won, or at least would have had a chance to. Doesn't matter that he can't put together coherent sentences; neither could the winner. Trump's debate meltdown was a million times worse than Biden's, but it didn't matter. |
Probably par for course, but still an example of an ignorant population. The fundamental problem I see for democracy in general especially with social media allowing everyone to share the shit out of their opinions is that it literally relies on half the people being unhappy with how things are and then motivated to find ways to change things. If everyone is happy then there’s no need to change and democracy kind of ceases to exist by virtue of becoming pointless OR the ability to change things (ie: voting) is taken away and it disappears that way. It’s kind of a weird concept when you think about it, and it’s being tested in a way it’s never been tested before. |
Considering the drop in turnout you have to wonder how much of that was due to areas that make it deliberately difficult to vote. |

As said, voting republican doesn't make you an idiot, but passionately loving trump does. He's a bad person, and a bad businessman. I only hope that his stinginess means no more weapons handouts for Israel, because you can be sure that Ukraine will be cut off from their support. I hope if he cuts of the defender he's also going to cut off the aggressor. The part I find so odd here is the Canadians on his dick, as you know it's going to fuck cross border trade. Say goodbye to our oil industry, are forestry industry, and anything else resource based unless we sell it at Pennies on the dollar. The people in these industries are his fan base here in Canada, which again leads me to believe, they simply have no fucking understanding of how shit works. |
It's the economy, stupid. People are hurting, they're angry, and they're getting left behind. You can see it locally, and for the life of me, I don’t understand why liberals, in general, don’t get it. Instead, they’re focused on 'woke' and social issues that even many of their own voters don’t care about, because people especially young people are too busy just trying to survive financially. Trump understood this. He stayed on message, tapping into that anger and anxiety. He also connected with younger men by going on platforms that appeal to them, where he spoke in a way that resonated. |
Some more demos: 2020 to 2024 Age: 18-29: 36% Trump to 42% Trump 30-44: 46% Trump to 46% Trump Education: No college education: 54% Trump to 62% Trump Bachelor's degree: 47% Trump to 44% Trump Advanced degree: 37% Trump to 37% Trump First time voters: 32% Trump to 54% Trump |

What blew my mind from this election being here in Texas is Cruz winning again. The guy got absolutely decimated in the debates against Allred, and Allred checked all the boxes to win, former NFL player, manly guy, born in Dallas. He destroyed Cruz for months over the whole Cancun debacle, and people in Texas are still pissed about him running away to Mexico during a severe winter storm leaving the entire state in a blackout with people freezing in their homes. With all that Cruz still "cruised" to a win, winning almost 10 points ahead of Allred, giving Cruz another 6 years in congress. Boy was I disappointed in that one. At least the "black Nazi" Mark Robinson lost in North Carolina, thank god a literal turd didn't win that running :lol |

Every time they'd get up there and say "Trump is a threat to democracy!", "He tried to throw a coup", "What about January 6th!!!" my fucking blood would BOIL. No one outside of the bloody wonky partisan DC-sphere gave a flying fuck about January 6th. Most people looked at it as a bunch of goofies having a bit of a party. It wasn't a coup, the government wasn't even close to being overthrown, these idiots weren't organized in any meaningful manner to achieve that. Whining about January 6th isn't a bloody platform, and I never understood why 4 years later the Democrats spent so much energy harping on about it as opposed to the real issues people are focused on. January 6th when polled to people didn't even fall in the Top 10 of major items. |
And more on the biggest cucks in the history of American voters: Hispanic-American Men: Vote for Trump. Cuz why not? I got mine, fuck all the other guys trying to get into this country. I can pass as white. Arab Americans: Gotta punish Biden for not doing more to save Gaza. Vote for Trump who will literally look the other way and let Israel depopulate Gaza of Palestinians Can't make this shit up. |

Those types of people aren't exactly what I'd call introspective. They'll just blame some other left wing establishment like environmental people or scientists or, if it happens fast enough, Trudeau for not getting the win for them. They're never going to blame their beliefs daddy. |

Jan 6, abortion rights, trans rights, Palestine... Stuff redditors care about. Extend it further to Trump's insanity, inability to speak, his crimes, his raping, his racism, Epstein and Diddy connections. None of that matters to more than half voters. For them what matters is who was in charge when eggs became expensive. |

- Some are really suffering from the effects of the economy, specifically inflation. The lack of a social safety net and low wages for entry level workers in the US is a real killer for them. These people just want change as it seems like the guy in charge doesn't care or isn't capable enough - it doesn't matter how bad a person Trump is, they want something new. - Some are just ignorant. Witness the spike in searches on election of day of "who is running for president?" "did Biden step down?" etc. They don't know basic economics or politics. The less education you have the more likely you vote for the Republican - that's been true for a long time. - Some are into grievance politics. They see people different from them and they want to hate them and anyone who shows the same anger as them gets their vote even if the actual policies are bad for them (cutting food stamps or medicaid). These are often disenfranchised white males and religious southerners. Quote:
Do I think liberals don't talk about their economics success enough? Yeah, they consistently show better economic performance when they are in power but I don't think talking about universal health care or raising minimum wages got buried under woke issues. |
^ supa is right if you read a hard right wing stream on X all they seem to care about is Diddy parties, trannies, gays, which sex everyone actually might be, who is against God and babies being murdered at birth. They're just as guilty as any looney far lefter. Making issues out of things that affect 0.00001% of the population and are most likely discredited under study. |
