Do we need a Trump 3.0 thread now? The original Trump thread was for his first presidency. 2.0 was him being no longer president but still batshit crazy Now we have a 2nd term. |
So many things - i can't keep up on trying to fact check these... read at your own caution. 1) Now tariffs happening 25% for mexico / canada by Feb 1 2) Return to work - Trump also plans to order tens of thousands of federal employees to return to the office. The White House stated that just six per cent of federal employees currently work in office. 3) A Trump signed an order officially creating the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which will have a mission of cutting government spending. (have to fact check this) 4) Paris climate agreement. - US pulled out 5) Trump orders US exit from World Health Organization 6) Pardoned, commuted the prison sentences or vowed to dismiss the cases of all of the 1,500-plus people charged with crimes in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, including people convicted of assaulting police officers, using his clemency powers on his first day back in office to undo the massive prosecution of the unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy. |
people who that think any of this is good need to be studied in a lab |
More Trump, more executive orders, and more cheers from "Canadians" in my social media feed. I don't understand why some of these idiots are even cheering for the 25% tariff (or whatever amount it might be) he continues to threated to impose on Canada. I don't understand how people can cheer for someone that is backstabbing their biggest and best trading partner. How someone can cheer for a person that touts nothing but lies, and goes on about how Canada is ripping the US off when that is entirely untrue. Or how someone can blame us for being weak, that essentially we deserve to be taken advantage of when it is the bully that is being unreasonable to begin with. And many of these are people living in Canada / Canadians themselves. They, too, are going to be negatively affected by the Trump policies directly or indirectly, and whether they realize this or not. And I continue to be amazed by the mental gymnastics these people display to support Trump... FailFish |
Well.. we are weak as fuck in terms of a bargaining position. We have lame duck PM with, what is with all intents and purposes, a minority govt. not capable of passing any meaningful legislation to combat these threats So yea.. lol.. we are weak as fuck. |
On the tariff issue, the read I am getting is -- the Trump administration is directing resources to "further study" the impacts of how a Canadian retailiation will affect the US. Depending on how the study plays out, it could mean anything from the tariff no longer being a priority, to a gradual phase in, to a straight up 25% slap. It is insane how stupid this tariff is. It is something that hurts your partner and ally. It is based on a deranged person's completely warped understanding of how economics work. But here we are... FailFish |

https://www.statnews.com/2025/01/20/...iscrimination/ Here`s an executive order from Cheeto that will hurt many Americans. The idiot`s executive order to rescind Biden`s work to reduce healthcare costs in terms of prescription drug prices. From that article above, Biden`s executive order reduced prices of prescription drugs that many Americans rely on. Trump rescinded that executive order: Drug pricing Trump also rescinded an executive order that prompted the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation to create three drug pricing experiments that haven’t gotten fully off the ground yet. he first model aimed to help state Medicaid programs pay for cell and gene therapies that are highly effective but expensive. The idea was to create multi-state purchasing agreements that would allow states to not pay for drugs if they were ineffective. CMMI has started the process of enrolling states in the pilot program, and the application is supposed to be open through Feb. 28. The second experiment tests having Medicare pay less for drugs that receive accelerated approvals from the Food and Drug Administration. Accelerated approvals make promising drugs available to patients sooner, before it’s fully proven that the medicines actually work. The reduced payments would, theoretically, incentivize drugmakers to finish studying the medicines through confirmatory trials. The final pilot project is designed to encourage Medicare prescription drug plans to offer generic drugs for common chronic conditions for a flat, $2 copay. The goal was to standardize copays for generic drugs and encourage patients to continue taking medications. That means many of those dumbass MAGAs who voted for Trump are going to pay more money for prescription drugs. :lawl: |
Almost any article you read on Smiths stance is because of what I just said, she’s not going to just cave to withholding exports at Turds whim because she knows he will be gone. |

Some of the people in this thread seem perfectly fine with getting cucked by the USA cuz that’s “just how it is” and saying Canada is weak… even if we are, you don’t say it and then do nothing and laugh at your own weakness… you fight back and put your chin up and get to work. Some people are such sad Canadians, it’s like their grandparents never fought for or against anything. |
Trump needs tariffs to pay for his massive tax cuts for himself and his rich buddies. His dream of every country bending the knee and taking the tariffs up the ass will end badly because they’ll be retaliatory tariffs levied against the US. Good luck telling the average MAGA voter why inflation is rising again and everything is getting expensive again, no more Sleepy Joe to blame. And what happened to the Canadian patriots? The same idiots flying Canadian flags and talking about being proud old stock Canadians. And you have the bimbo premier of Alberta gallivanting around DC like she’s PM, acting like she’s going to strike a deal with Trump and has no issues selling out Canadian workers. We're literally living bizarro world. |
I don't buy for a second that we're in a weak position. We are their number 1 source for oil right now. We provide a ton of power to them in the east, and our supply chains are very integrated. We are their number 1 trade partner. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._United_States Yes, they are stronger, and yes it would hurt us if we just shut up shop, but any claim that they can just walk all over us is nonsense. They only way they can get a major victory is if we allow ourselves to be divided, especially east/west. Or if we become a bunch of pussies and grovel at the great orange menace's feet. Fuck that. America is always greater when we are strong, and obviously we are stronger when America has our back. |

the 'don't know' part is the most telling. how do you not know how you feel about such a pointed issue. 8% of conservatives are just straight up idiots beyond all measures. |
Our oil exports are absolutely a meaningful source of income for the US. US refineries take our crude / bitumen and process them into petroleum products to turn in a nice profit. The problem is -- Sellout Smith -- now this legitimate name calling based on true, established observations -- is unwilling to play ball. So how do we go about doing this without Smith's cooperation? Without Alberta's cooperation, it would be a major PITA to have an export ban, with time and money being wasted at the federal courts. Not all Albertans are stupid, and there has been plenty of criticism from fellow Albertans about how Smith is singing a different tune than the rest of Canada. But I wonder how much public pressure will be needed before Smith would agree to the Team Canada approach. I am not even certain there would be enough pressure from just within Alberta. Quote:

Smith is out of her league and has no clue what she’s doing. Remember Trump’s catchphrase, 'drill, baby, drill'? Well, that’s exactly what he’s likely to do which is increase domestic production so the US isn’t reliant on oil imports. This is bad news for Alberta. The only saving grace for us, as you mentioned, is that many US refiners are designed for heavy crude, which is what we export to the US. If Trump focuses on boosting light crude production, that might work in our favour. But who knows what he’s actually going to do at this point? |
trump just says that shit to rile up idiots. he said it with coal in 2016 and coal kept tumbling for the next 4 years. |
^^ Yes. His game is to do whatever it takes to make the other side cow, or lash out. Do none of the above, show him what he has to lose, and I would expect him to move on. |

I would also argue that a lot of these people have no hope financially and basically have an "I don't give a fuck" mentality. It's basically a "burn the house down and everything in it" attitude. |
People would rather "own the libs/left" than think rationally because it's about winning. Many see the world through a zero sum lens, particularly that the pandemic basically brought people to the brink. Like I said, the people with those grey Maple Leaf stickers would be the first people to turn in their Canadian passports if it meant that their political opponents suffered. |

Our trade volume, although similar in absolute numbers, it's got far more weight on Canada than the US. US accounts for over 60% of our total trade, while we are only a tad under 15% of US total trade. We have a lot more to lose than US if trade just suddenly stops completely. It wrecks havoc in Canada but might make a slight dent in US but nothing US can't work around. |
