As long as Trump fucks those people more (the immigrants, the gays, the trannies, the socialists etc) they'll stick with Trump.

That's what modern conservative politics is about - "Pwning the Libs"

To be fair, progressives have failed to come up with a compelling solution to improve the lot of the undereducated, working class.

To have developed a toxic mindset like that... <SMH>

They don't care if their lives are improved, they just want other peoples lives to be worse.

pastarocket 01-29-2025 08:19 AM

When the MAGAs see that prices for groceries, household goods, and healthcare (example: prescription drugs) are gonna go way up for them and many other Americans, maybe they will change their minds about supporting Trump?

I wonder how much pain to their wallets that those people can tolerate when the US economy falters under Cheeto.

Mikoyan 01-29-2025 08:36 AM

Probably not, at least not till the last half of the term. The cognitive dissonance is off the charts. They're going to still blame Biden, "Trump's trying to fix it."

It's like all the 'Fuck Obamacare' folks that need the Affordable Care Act, or they wouldn't have been able to get medical help or afford medications.

unit 01-29-2025 08:51 AM

their kids can die in a plane crash and they will say it was gods plan. i dont think raising the prices on groceries is gonna change their opinions much.

I think this is half true - AOC had a great podcast with Jon Stewart (
) where she talks about how the Democrats have become the party of rich liberals and have forgotten how to fight for the working class. To a large extent I think this is true - rich liberals have a comfortable life and they believe in a big, inclusive tent so they've started grabbing onto policies that are non-economically focused (like LGBTQ rights or climate change) and they've done a terrible job of explaining why those are morally important for people to care about.

While grabbing onto those policies they've lost track of the most important policies which is "Am I better off today than I was yesterday?" and Liberals/Democrats have not focused on enough on explaining how what they do affects this. The messaging is tough though - economic policy is really hard to explain when it's "we need to raise taxes to pay for the schools, roads, doctors etc so that you're better off". These are all things that are abstract - you only care about your doctor when you need them, you only care about schools when your kids are going to them etc.

The other side has a simple way of talking about this stuff which is that you get to keep more of what you have and that's that even if you're going to be worse off in the end and the rich get even richer out of it.

More of a symbolic vote, but honestly, who knows what might happen in the future. California is the 3rd largest economy in the world so creating a union with the other blue states isn't too far fetched.

Quote:

A new bid to place a measure on the ballot that would ask California voters to approve the state's secession from the U.S. has been cleared for signature gathering.

Secretary of State Shirley Weber announced Thursday that a measure introduced by Marcus Evans of Fresno must receive more than 500,000 signatures by late July.

According to the text of the measure, the state would be required to create a 20-member state commission to study California's viability as an independent country in 2027 and to publish a report the following year.

Members of the commission, who would be picked at random by the Secretary of State, would have to meet certain requirements, such as being nominated by 100 registered voters and must have California residency for at least five years.

The measure would also place the following question on the November 2028 ballot: "Should California leave the United States and become a free and independent country?"

f the ballot question is approved, the proposal would declare a "vote of no confidence in the United States of America", but would not change the state's government or its relationship with the U.S. The measure would also call for the removal of the U.S. flag from all state buildings.

Approval would require at least 50% voter participation and 55% voting "yes."

According to a fiscal analysis from the Legislative Analyst's office, the measure would cost the state $10 million in election-related costs and to form the new commission, along with $2 million in annual costs to operate the commission.

Evans has been part of other initiative campaigns calling for the state to secede, including a proposal following Donald Trump's victory in the 2016 presidential election. That campaign was dubbed "#Calexit" by many, a play on the Brexit vote that took place in the United Kingdom that year.

In an email to CBS News Bay Area, Evans said their movement has a better chance compared to eight years ago. Evans noted Trump's return to the presidency after overcoming two impeachments in his first term and the federal prosecutions against him.

"We believe that now is the best time to Calexit - NOW we are better situated to make Calexit happen than in 2016," he said.

Weber said proponents must gather 546,651 signatures from registered voters, which is 5% of total votes cast for governor in the 2022 election. Proponents face a deadline of July 22.

After all his talk about claiming other countries/territories as part of the US, it would be hilarious if some states actually seceded under Trumps watch.

IF California ever becomes its own country, watch Cheeto retaliate in response to Calexit by putting up tariffs on California exports. LUL

pastarocket 01-29-2025 11:52 AM

A former U.S. official said that Cheeto is making shit up when it comes to cutting U.S. aid to Gaza. 50 million US funding is cut because the money would all be used for condoms. LUL

I want AOC to lecture me.

Traum 01-29-2025 12:55 PM

The unfortunate thing is -- few people will know / remember how this was a lie, but the die hard Cheeto supporters would forever go on parrotting this fake news story as how the Great Cheeto saved 'Muricans $50M on buying condoms for Gaza. FailFish

My dad will 1000% bring this up at his birthday dinner on Saturday if the conversation heads towards politics.

Sending illegal immigrants to a terrorist island prison. Seems reasonable.

I kind of admire how he can talk about literally everything like it's a bad 80's action movie come to life

I hope AOC runs for the senate when Chuck Schumer keels over (soon?) then eventually can put together a Presidential run in 12-15 years as the successor to Bernie Sanders.

The original story on her (what the Cons said) has proven so inaccurate - she's super smart, very articulate and informed on tonnes of topics, acts with integrity, and has real charisma. She's (and folks like Katie Porter) are the future of the Democratic Party.

westopher 01-29-2025 04:43 PM

"But she was a server so she's stupid" - republicans

Right, but in order to reach across the fold to these nutbags on the republican side, they should really go with a normal white male. Plz don’t come out gay or anything too weird to spook these stupid republicans. Just, vanilla bread white male who’s ideally relatively handsome and well spoken and he’ll win it.

if only Bernie wasn’t such a communist geezer, he’d be my top contender for a democratic candidate.

SkinnyPupp 01-29-2025 05:13 PM

The Democratic Party hates Bernie and AOC. They need to force a paradigm shift, not just work their way up. Otherwise it'll be the same

SkinnyPupp 01-29-2025 06:19 PM

So Trump has turned Guantanamo Bay facility (used to hold prisoners who are never going to face trial) into a concentration camp for migrants they can't ship elsewhere. He says it will hold up to 30,000 people

Yes, really

westopher 01-29-2025 06:50 PM

I posted above but didn't elaborate cause I was too disgusted.

68style 01-29-2025 09:46 PM

What are the chances all the cutting Trump has been making factored into the aircraft incident tonight? ATC are also government employees as are many other staff.
