When LA Mayor Karen Bass was in Ghana on a diplomatic trip she was criticised for not returning to LA quickly enough for the forest fires.
I think it's bullshit gotcha politics to expect gov't leaders to be instantly on site for any natural disaster BUT the Republicans have been playing this bullshit game for ages far better than the Democrats and I think the Dems have been a bunch of pussies by hiding behind "tradition" and "decorum". Fight fire with fire folks.
I am actually surprised y'all didn't blame climate change for this flooding.
Climate change? I didn't know GOP / MAGA supporters believe in climate change despite the overwhelming amount of evidence that we are seeing now.

Calling Texans stupid because Texas votes red is lazy-brained cope. Texas isn’t just Bible thumpers and oil barons... it’s also blue-flipping suburbs, queer mayors in Houston, and more complexity than your smug little Elbows Up fantasy can handle.
Emergency systems failed because some local idiot didn’t want to pay for sirens, not because the whole state is evil. And if you’re Canadian throwing stones, maybe remember BC let 619 people die in the heat dome while Washington and Oregon kept their toll under 150. No door knocks, no AC, no shame. Canada’s social safety net has holes big enough to fall through and catch fire on the way down... just ask the reserves without clean water!
Yes, I can call Texans stupid. Texans will tell you that themselves.
Texas has the fourth lowest literacy rate in the country (ranked 46th or 48th out of 50 states).
They have a two billionaire bastards (Tim Dunn and the Wilks brothers) that fund the absolute worst politicians with garbage Christian nationalistic policies that their electorate continue to vote for, against their own best interests. Don't even get me started on the recent voucher program the state has approved to go into effect next year. It's maddening.
These are people who continue to vote in known crooks, people like Ted Cruz and Greg Abbott who have overseen continued disasters within the state, but have received zero consequences as a result.
Any reasonable electorate would've made these guy's pay at the polls a long time ago.
I am sure the literacy rate has to do with the fact that it has a very big immigrant population and the test is only done in English (despite there being no official language in the USA)

Ah, the classic "they vote different, so they must be idiots" take. Real original. You write that all by yourself or did MSNBC hold your hand?
You toss out billionaire names like Texas invented oligarchy. Cute. Meanwhile in Cali, tech lords play God while the streets turn into Mad Max with oat milk lattes. But sure, tell me more about who's voting against their interests.

Jason, back in the early RS days, I thought you were an asshole, but cool because you seemed to have it together with your success, but it turns out, you're just an asshole that lucked out.

I pity you now.
If I "lucked out" for 15 years straight, I must've stumbled into one hell of a four-leaf clover factory!

So Trump drops a 25% tariff on South Korea when South Korea already has a zero tariff policy with the US. Then he drops the same thing on Japan who was trying to negotiate with the US - they had someone in DC who was trying to get a meeting with Bessent and was ignored. Meanwhile the US "negotiates" a deal with Vietnam for zero tariffs for US goods - a deal that was already on the table during the last Trump admin (the TPP deal) which Trump refused to sign and drops a 25% tariff on Vietnam.
When asked if the tariffs are firm Trump replies, "Yes they're firm. Maybe not 100% firm".
Why would anyone bother negotiating with the US at this point? Whether you do it in good faith or not the outcome is predetermined and he'll repeatedly go through cycles of applying tariffs and then pausing them.
China played it right - they wouldn't let the US bully them and the US backed off on most of the tariffs in exchange for nothing.
China is probably the only country that has that power though. They could literally economically cripple USA
Via the specific types of goods they produce for the US or just in total dollars? In the case of the latter Mexico and Canada are pretty much neck and neck with China as trading partners for the US (https://www.statista.com/statistics/...or-us-imports/)
China's "trump" card is that they have the money internally to bear the burden and a culture where shared pain is acceptable when done for nationalistic pride. Can't image the Cons aligning with Carney if Carney played the same hardball with the US - the Cons will be "elbows down" as soon as Carney bullies the bully.
Theoretically Canada could do serious harm to the US if we cut them off from oil, power, and potash. We'd experience retaliation of course but that's the game China was willing to play, the benefits of being an autocracy.

I mean more in terms of goods, because imagine the revolt if every American couldn’t buy an 342” TV for $199.95

Has nothing to do with voting preference.
