I agree that they are mostly shit but the complete absence of unions leads to companies taking advantage workers too. Unfair wages, pay cuts, hour cuts, lack of benefits (it's up to you to use these btw, I'm guilty of not using them for years), unreasonable/unsafe expectations etc. Even with unions in place, management still tries to find ways to exploit honest workers to get more at their expense while their buddies/brown nosers get away with everything.
Cheeto spending more tax payer dollars all in the name of "security":
The mobilization of US Marines and National Guard troops to respond to protests in Los Angeles will cost the Defense Department roughly $134 million, a top Pentagon official told Congress today.
“The current estimated cost is $134 million which is largely just (temporary duty) cost, travel, housing, food, etc.,” Bryn MacDonnell, a special assistant to the Secretary of Defense and official performing the duties of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller), told the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.
When asked by Democratic Rep. Pete Aguilar where that funding is coming from, MacDonnell responded it was coming from “other (Operation and Maintenance) accounts.”
MacDonnell was testifying today before the subcommittee alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine.
Hegseth said today that the deployment of National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles would last 60 days, and his office was ensuring that they are “housed, fed,” and have adequate water and capabilities.
Cali was red for a solid 8 yrs back when Arnold was governor. Of course, the GOP back then isn't the same clown show that it is now, and IIRC, Arnold did a fairly good job given how much his hands were tied on certain things.

What's ridiculous is how much pull those tiny shit red states have in the election... if anything Cali should have MORE influence than it already does.
The electoral vote system was created precisely to give more say to the smaller states so that the presidential election wouldn't look like our Canadian federal election, where the stage is pretty much set once Ontario has finished tallying its votes. The lack of a voice at the table is partly what is pissing Alberta off.

I’ve been in 2 different unions for the last decade almost now, it’s all shit.
It protects cancers, and takes dues to keep your wages lower than the private sector in the guise of protecting your employment. The vast majority of my colleagues don’t use the benefits which are the only upside of unionized work forces, so it’s moot.
If you’re a good worker, and by good it basically means you can consistently show up on time and not much else, unions don’t do shit for you.
I agree completely, I've been unionized for 20 years and all I've ever seen them do is take dues from me, negotiate contracts in arrears that end up being exactly the bare minimum industry standard for percentage raises and protect totally useless or even flat out dangerous coworkers/fellow employees from getting fired.
When I have twice asked them for legitimate assistance with harrassment matters, they were fucking useless.
I feel sorry for the ICE staff, National Guard, Marines etc. who are following their superiors' orders, against their own personal beliefs, but cannot afford to do anything about it.

California asks court for emergency order blocking Trump administration from using National Guard to enforce laws in the state
from CNN's Devan Cole
Attorneys for California asked a federal judge on Tuesday for an emergency order that would temporarily prohibit the Trump administration from using members of the state’s National Guard to enforce laws in the state, including by assisting federal officials with immigration enforcement.
The request from the state for a temporary restraining order comes a day after Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom sued President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over their decision to federalize members of the state’s National Guard to aid in the federal response to protests happening in and around Los Angeles.
The requested order, attorneys for the state told the court, “will prevent the use of federalized National Guard and active duty Marines for law enforcement purposes on the streets of a civilian city.” But they noted that they were not seeking to prevent the federalized National Guard members from “protecting the safety of federal buildings or other real property owned or leased by the federal government, or federal personnel on such property.”

I feel that way maybe for some of the national guard or navy, but let's be honest, people sought a job at ice because they are pieces of shit. They are living out their fantasy of racism with impunity.

Calif. State Republican aren't the same as the Federal Republicans. Yes they voted for the Governator twice, but it's the same as Massachusetts (Super Blue state) having Mitt Romney as Governor as well. State Republicans in Blue states appear to be much more reasonable cause they have to get a share of liberal votes. Federal Republicans figured out there's enough deplorables in the country and wonky electoral college math to get elected no matter how batshit crazy they get.
Smartereveryday spent 4 years trying to make a chain mail bbq scrub brush in America. The end product is mostly made in America. The retail price is $75 USD. Here is a chain mail brush probably made in China for $25 https://outdoormarketplace.com/produ...il-grill-brush
include Canada into the mix and his prices would've been half, at least he could get the chainmail
unless the bolt was DFARS, the raw material would've come from non us melt.
check out what I got sent to me this morning

Section 232 Tariffs – Now 50%
Effective June 4, 2025
• Applies to all imported steel and aluminum
• Active exclusions still apply. In those cases, only the reciprocal tariff is due (currently ~10%)
• Without an exclusion, the full 50% tariff applies
Examples:
• SS from Taiwan – 50%
• SS from India – 50%
• A286 from EU bloc – 50%
• Aluminum Bar from EU bloc – 50%
________________________________________
Section 301 Tariffs – 25% (China Only)
• In effect and stacked on top of Section 232
• Applies to all steel and aluminum from China
________________________________________
Special Tariffs (Fentanyl-related) – 20% (China Only)
• Also in effect and stacked on top of both 232 and 301
• Applies to all steel and aluminum from China
Example Total for China:
• SS from China = 95% total tariff (50% + 25% + 20%)

Okay I read it but of all the things going on what is the problem with this particular one? He overstayed his visa and was given the option to leave without incident, which he did.

Stories like that being reported really undermine the importance of things that are actually happening, like cops purposely shooting reporters with rubber bullets and ice taking kids from their foster parents.

Who cares?
What kind of criminal activity is he doing? These are the type of people you want visiting your country. Seems like one of trumps buddies called ice on him.

There’s literally like 100,000 better examples of injustice already out there man, it’s weaksauce. He was allowed to visit, he overstayed just like any of us could. Whether someone reported him is pretty inconsequential.

Overstaying your visa is a crime
He's lucky he's being politely allowed to leave. They probably even gave him a few days temporary visa to make it convenient for him
You keep bringing social media bullshit to the conversation.. I won't say it's as bad as what others here do all the time, but it's not really productive
What that president is doing now, fucking with individual states, goes against the meaning of the constitution itself. Most right wingers are hardcore Constitutionalists, and should be going insane about it. But no, they just want the brown people gone.
That's the story here, not some youtuber or whatever

Try getting a woke progressive to admit that some non-white person overstaying their visa in the USA is wrong. To them, anyone non-white who enters the USA should be welcome to stay forever and government rules don't apply to them at all because... orange man bad.
Meanwhile, if you are white and don't follow the government rules 100% like during COVID, then you are the bad person.
So bizarre.

Literally every "woke white person on here" has just said yeah he needs to leave so your covid ramblings aren't rooted in reality.
I'm referring to the legions of Canadian Liberal influencers and establishment boomers who are blasting the USA for trying to deport illegals with the response being incredible violence hurled at the police, looting, and riots... meanwhile they were calling for crackdowns on the convoy which had absolutely zero violence at all, and continue to hurl insults and abuse at convoy people and people who refused the clot shot.
Woke progressives are so ideologically blind to reality, they stick to their dogma with such fanaticism. "Only a Sith deals in absolutes."
