BCAA just raised my FK8 insurance rate by around 15% over last year.

I guess they finally realized this "Civic Hatchback" is not a typical Civic.

At some point in 2018, it was cheaper to insure a 2018 FK8 than a 2014 Mazda3....

My insurance renewal papers came in. It says surcharge on the left column and "your cost" on the right column, but I'm at -5?

How can it be a surcharge? Is this a printing error?

$3200/year for insurance seems pretty steep to me.

Hmm looks like ICBC trying to switch to newer format in preparation for new discount system change Sept 1...but doing it wrong lol. 3200 sounds about right assuming u don't have 10y discount

I wouldn't worry about it -- essentially, I think vyrospec is spot on. ICBC is preparing to switch over to the new model where surcharge is the name of the game for bad drivers. Unfortunately, we are still using the CRS right now, and the "surcharge" title just absolutely confuses the heck out of people.

A family member is recently due for insurance renewal as well, and the same question as asked about this "surcharge". Took me a while before I clued in on what it was supposed to mean. Compared to the previous year's insurance premiums, the family member's charges were only slightly more expensive than the year before, so it was totally inline with the slight hike that ICBC said it was going to do.

But damn... $3200/yr for insurance... For that amount, I think I can insure a new-ish Porsche instead of my pos Japanese econobox...

just got my renewal letter and it looks like BIC_BAWS' as well. Also @ around 3200

Funny thing is. I got another 5% discount this year but my rate went up $200. Also... found out with the same coverage, a new driver would be paying like $6k to insure a WRX.

Have the rate changes taken effect yet?

Friend with a 6MT TL said his rates were right around what he paid last year

I'm paying 1529 for mine with a 43% discount, and I'm still pissed!

Went up a couple hundred a year for my 2014 FX4, up to $2460 for 2 mil /500 /300 /43% discount.
Had to get rid of my less than 15km to work since moving so that didn't help.

Private insurance would have been about a hundred bucks more, this truck life is starting to suck lol.

How on earth, with 43% discount I'm shocked what it costs to insure a beater. Some would say more than the car's worth. For my beater, collision and comp are only a combined $122 I thought about going without but for just $10 a month it's worth it.

$1994 civic coupe EX
$2mil/$500/$300 to from work over 15 kms is $1711 per year.

2005 Nissan Pathfinder, $2 mil/$500/$300 pleasure use $1670.

my 2009 suburban 2500 3/4 ton, I insured this one before last May
$3mil/$300/$300 to from work over 15 kms is $1891 per year.

I thought that initially myself, until I saw it was just an extra $54 a year to add it to the civic. Pathfinder is $140, I’ll think about that one.

Upon further inspection, wtf is the annual license fee? What a scam. They were talking about icbc having highest rates in N America on the news tonight, just terrible.

Up until Christy decided to raid ICBC’s coffers and sell the province out to the Chinese, we had the 3rd lowest rates in the country ... less than 10 years ago ...

I renewed last month under the old system and my price was also about $3200 per year. I have mine for work use with max discount though and no recent tickets. (last ticket was a few years ago for doing 20 over the speed limit).

So they ditched the Claim Rated Scale and are now using what they call a Driver Factor.

https://www.icbc.com/insurance/costs...er-factor.aspx

They don't show what your discount is going to be or how the come up with your actual number.

For example, my driver factor is 0.528. I've been driving over 25 years and haven't had an at-fault claim in over 20 years. How the hell do I know where I fall, in relation to other drivers? Under the CRS system, I was basically maxed out (-21). Now I have no clue.

Well you're better off than me. Apparently they measure driving experience now as: "Your BC driving experience is calculated from the date you were first issued a BC non-learner licence."

4 years driving experience
No at fault claims (paid off)
1 ticket - 146.5 Speed Against Area Sign (was minimum ticket iirc)
0.886

How is this listing drivers thing gonna work if say you're drunk and you get a friend to drive your car? Or if you're letting someone test drive your car if you're selling?

So, starting September 1, claim repayment is only possible if the claim amount is $2,000 or less.$
So basically you can't, considering a minor fender bender on a bumper already costs >$3K
