Said it once before but it's important to understand how retarded this is. I can take a picture of myself eating sushi at Richmond Sushi, submit my picture online and renew my gun licenses on my phone while eating a phat ass Salmon roll.

A license which I can then use to go online and buy a huge shotgun and have Canada post deliver it to my door. It's 2020 in a few months and we still need MASSIVE offices like the one in Landsdowne and thousands of insurance brokers taking a cut to give me a god damn 2inch sticker. If this was any normal business, that shit would be the first to go and lop a massive chunk off your overhead.

It's like the exact opposite of Six Sigma.
I saw this on reddit, and thought of what you said here.

Cause icbc is run by morons that don't actually care about the company or customers, just their paycheques and keeping their buddies paid. Anyone with two braincells could have come up with this idea.

My insurance premiums went up by ~$400. 11 years experience, 0 accidents. I ended up reducing my coverage, and added a secondary driver and it ended up costing around the same as next year...

I have yet to hear anyone who has come out on top under the new system. At best, they're only paying slightly more.

Looks like there's some controversy surrounding an ICBC technical training facility in Burnaby & the ARA (Automotive Retailer Association?) of BC.
Anyone know more about this?

just a friendly pg 22 reminder that regardless of whether the system itself changed this year or not, you were going to pay 6.5%(?) more than last year.

If your insurance cost stayed about the same as last year you have benefited under the new system.

My insurance went down quite a bit too. I added my mom onto my insurance to benefit from her lower rate at 25%. I suggest doing that even if your mom doesn't live with you. Not really a scam either cause who doesn't let their parents drive their cars.

About to renew my insurance in Nov, I thought my rate increase is absurd, can you guys help me check if the increase is normal?

Using the estimate tool on ICBC website, I got a whopping $3124 without the annual license fee. $1400 for basic and $1724 for optional insurance.

I have

-collision with $500 deduct

-comprehensive with $300 deduct and $200 windshield deduct

-3rd party liability at 2mil

-Underinsured motor protection at 2mil

My insurance was $2380 last yr without the annual license fee.

That's more than 30% increase.. wtf?

9 years driving experience with no fault accident, not even any accident.

Driver factor at 0.628

I'm the only listed driver on the insurance, and I drive to work more than 15km each way

If it is not right, should I call a broker or ICBC and how can I get them to check?

Thanks guys!

Hi,

Were you able get the autonomous emergency braking discount through ICBC?

Like you said, the Mazda's system only automatically brakes when the speed is 30km/h or lower, so I'm not sure if the discount still applies to us?

Does the broker check the online owner manual to make sure your car is really equipped with the AEB?

I just went into BCAA to see if they could save me any money. I could save about $150 a year on the Rav, but since my wife drives my car once a year they won’t cover her, due to her single claim. I asked them to look what my new ICBC rate will be.
Looks like I’m gojng up about 7.4% with a perfect record and 19 years driving experience. Here’s a big F you. My wife and I will be paying 7k next year to insure our vehicles. What a load of shit. Lol.

well just to add to the pool.

I have no reference since I just bought a car.. but for what is worth...

$2042/yr for my 97 Miata

11 years 0 at fault history
0.575
31 yrs old

3mil 3rd party, $300/$300 comprehensive
for work within 15KM

(according to my agent, my "fair" market vaule for my car is $1700) so take it for what is worth, my insurance costs "more" than my car...

I insured my car for only 3 months at the start of Sept, so I got the renewal letter today. It gives you a breakdown of your rate instead of just an estimated renewal amount (which is nice) but it lists a percentage discount which is weird, I thought that was gone?

It also lists $1M underinsured motorist protection as being included in basic which I don't recall there being before.

Thought I'd chime in here from a newcomer point of view (arrived after ICBC changed the rules in Sept).

Swapped my foreign license for a BC one. ICBC gave me 15 years driving experience, the max they can give for exchange (I've been driving 21 years). Driver factor 0.602

Insured an almost new Porsche Macan S for $2650. $3M 3rd party, $500 deduction, $3M uninsured, personal use.

Your insurance also includes what happens when it slides into a group of children and doctors.

Depends who gets injured.

I mean, hit an SUV full of freshly-graduated doctors and $5M probably isn’t enough.

If that's the case, then it's meant to be and you meant to be in debt for the rest of life...

Talk about luck, first you have to be at fault, then you hit a car with a few doctors in it, assumingly on their way to a conference....

I bet the difference between a 2mil and 5mil insurance will be quite significant, I will ask the broker at BCAA
