Pretty dumb sales pitch if they knew how police car selection processes work... lol...
They don't buy them from dealerships, let's put it that way.

What's a couple vehicles of cost to BJ... | I'm not too sure, but I was under the impression that the Police have some leeway in terms of the street legalness of their vehicles.
For one, they are able to turn off their DRLs manually. My cousin who is ex-RCMP also mentioned that the vehicles are modified differently depending on what the purpose of the vehicle was for so not every police cruiser has the same specs. Basically, highway patrol ones have a better engine and an inspector's vehicle is more of a stock vehicle.
Don't know how true it is, but that's what he told me.

Not sure if his bosses would like it too much though if he starts ticketing personal vehicles when CVSE usually target commercial vehicles.
I have seen CVSE roadblocks where they have an RCMP member stopping personal vehicles (speed trap) while the CVSE crew were taking the commercial trucks. See this happen on Marine Way by Byrne at lot.

For the lawsuit that I think you are referring to, based on the information that has been made public, it seems to me that it is just caught up in the normal super slow process of how lawsuits proceed. It doesn't help that COVID has slowed things down even more.

	        | Banning Aftermarket Exhaust Province-wide https://westvancouver.ca/sites/defau...13-Revised.pdf
According to the City Council meeting minutes, it appears that West Van is trying to get the MVAR to be amended in such a manner that would ban the installation of aftermarket exhaust. More worrying is the fact that the city council meeting minutes mentioned how: Quote: |

"The BC Association of Police Boards passed the following resolution at their AGM on March 6, 2021: "THAT the MVAR be amended to address and/or prohibit the instalation of aftermarket exhausts systems so that this issue can be regulated and enforced by peace officers in BC."

		 | As the Association of Police Board should carry at least some weight in shaping how laws could be drafted and enforced, this is a worrisome turn of development for all automotive enthusiasts across the province.
As an analogy, I think this is as ridiculous as having a bunch of dog haters proposing to ban dog ownership in the province (and probably succeeding in it) because they hate the barking as well as the occasional poop that they see at the park. 🤬

that's the council/mayor email.
Feel free to send them your thoughts. I already have, although I'm no longer a resident of west van I did live there for over 20 years, and I still live right next door in north van.
I'd suggest someone draft something, and then anyone can just copy it and paste it and send it away.
EDIT: from the looks of that document though, it looks like west van is just joining a broader fight to push through a bill. The request is such a bullshit cop out though (pardon the pun), just because the cops are too lazy and dont feel its easy enough to just enforce. Just blanketly illegalizing everything and making it black and white so they can continue this little rampage.
It's fucking ignorant.
What needs to happen, is the MVAR gets proper decibel limits, and testing parameters implemented (like the ISO ones that are in this very thread), and then those get enforced. To blankly say any aftermarket muffler or exhaust is illegal is a ridiculous request to make.

A blanket ban on aftermarket exhaust systems would affect factory replacement models. How are they going to enforce repaired exhaust systems? What are they going to do, VI an older car that can't feasibly get an OEM exhaust due to age? Oh wait, this is profiling people with money.

Imagine by 2035, all cars sold would be EV's.

Imagine by 2035, all cars sold would be EV's. | This is not going to happen in our lifetimes, the power needs are impossible. Based on 2019 stats from ICBC 29,450 of the 2,546,723 registered vehicles in BC are electric or hybrid representing just 1.1% of the total. There is no way BC Hydro is going to be able to ramp up energy creation to meet the demands of the other 98.9% of vehicles even years after the 2040 NDP mandate (which will be canned). BC Hydro stated a few years ago that if the number of EV's rose to 10% they'd be tapped out. Not to mention the charger infrastructure that would have to be put in place to be able to efficiently keep all 2.5 million+ vehicles moving. And this is all just for the province of BC!
Until an as of yet undiscovered source of clean renewable energy comes in to service gas powered vehicles will be sold and on the roads for decades to come, and it's time people and politicians grew up and did that math. The virtue-signaling green policies that will never come to fruition are nauseating at this point.
