So sloppy clearing our own zone. Perron is such a piece of shit too

Brutal brutal game... Just non stop pressure in the Canucks zone, they try to get it to center, sometimes make it, then dump it in and start over again.

Markstrom kept it from being 6-2 instead of 3-2

BlackV62K2 08-16-2020 09:56 PM

Cancel the parade plans

WD-40 08-16-2020 09:58 PM

Yup. St. Louis is a scary team.

Still "Team Like That" hung in.

the two penalties late looked like the nail in the coffin

good game

classic playoff type game that could have gone either way

BlackV62K2 08-16-2020 10:00 PM

At least the flames lost today too lol

Tough game to lose but I fully expected the Blues to win tonight. We did a lot of good things but the ice was tilted for majority of the game. Next game coming tomorrow is good for us I think. If Boeser can figure it out, whatever it is that's not working for him, the top line will have that extra boost.

Good to see Benn have a very good game. Fantenberg with some nice plays, solid coverage and hits. I feel like Jake is starting to figure it out. He had some looks tonight, just isn't feeling it just yet. We will absolutely need secondary scoring tmrw night.

That is a super soft call.

Refs gave Loui a no call and then call pretty much the exact same penalty for the Blues a minute later.

Thanks refs! Bunch of donkey fucks

especially with two fucking minutes left in the game. refs usually aren't willing to make a soft as fuck call like that with the game on the line.

The inconsistent refereeing has always annoyed me with hockey. Turning a blind eye to blatant penalties, soft make-up calls, putting the whistles away in OT only to pick out one random bullshit penalty. It's so much worse than any other sport I watch.

Anyways, huge game tomorrow hope they come back strong.

The forward should have noticed and stayed back.

But St. Louis' fore-check and possession game is so strong. Everytime they enter the offensive zone the Canucks are chasing.

But this is a great learning experience for the young Canucks.

To make matters worse, instead of admitting their fault they just double down on it and issue bullshit fines to players, coaches, or GMs that come out and criticize them.

The NHL’s reffing has always been the absolute worst part of the entire league.

I don't know if 2 games in a row is a good thing... They have been outplayed pretty much the same was 2 games in a row now. They need to make some pretty significant changes or it'll just be more of the same. Only they might not be fortunate enough to get enough power plays, or convert on mistakes by the Blues like Pettersson did, or Horvat's miraculous SHG

spoon.ek9 08-17-2020 06:45 AM

it doesn't give them time to dwell on the loss. as much as the blues have been hammering us with hits, it's a tiring way to play for them too. as for changes, there won't be many. toffoli still not playing, gaudette isn't going to replace sutter or beagle. benn played well enough to be back so that means juolevi will sit. unless myers is somehow able to go, i don't see any changes to the roster happening. also, despite fatigue, demko should not play. we're up 2-1 in the series and the guy hasn't played since march.

fsy82 08-17-2020 08:26 AM

If you were to tell me at the begin of the restart the Canucks would be up 2-1 against the defending Champs I would have called BS. I'm happy in where this team is and the experience they've gotten. This will pay dividends in the future.

That and Stecher didn't recognize it and played near the boards instead of towards the middle of the ice. If Stecher is 10' closer to the middle, it's probably not an uncontested breakaway.

I agree, the experience is key here for us. Any wins now are a bonus (of course I will still dream that we make a miracle run but we won't go far playing the way we're playing). Our team is still 2-3 years from peaking and hopefully Markstrom or Demko will be ready to carry us to the cup then.

Virtanen got high-sticked in the offensive zone corner a few minutes before that went uncalled.

The most frustrating part is the lack of consistency. The refs swallowed their whistles pretty much all game until the 18-minute mark of the 3rd period and handed STL two PPs at "score-and-win" points of the game.

pastarocket 08-17-2020 09:54 AM

Happy birthday to Virtanen! Shotgun Jake turns 24 today.

-hoping for a big game from the big guy and all his team mates tonight!

Happy birthday to him. Honestly been pretty disappointed with him so far in the playoffs. He has the speed and size to really get in on the forecheck and cause some damage (like Schenn) and he's been super passive. Aside from the one steal into a breakaway and the penalty, he was pretty invisible last night. Should be a wrecking ball.

Reminding me a lot of Shawn Matthias who wasn't quite as fast, but had the size, and he had 10 hits in 6 games. Virtanen is at 9 hits through 6 games. Motte has 25.

Virtanen looks really sluggish and honestly i think the cardio is not there. He was in an episode of DDE racing his Benz on Kelowna during the pandemic. Don't know how serious he was in keeping in shape during the break.
