Bucking rails with that DDE clown ain’t conditioning lol..

I feel like he’s more of a liability right now than anything..it’s unfortunate toffoli can’t slot in for him

Jake needs to work on his cardio to be in game shape. :considered:

-found the video of Jake driving his black AMG GT-S in a episode of DDE. Watch at the 18:24 mark of the video.

Jake was playing like it was a preseason game. He played as if there was nothing on the line and with no care in the world.

He should be glued to the bench.

It's been like ~15 years since I last AutoXed but a 1600 kg high-end sports car would've gotten smoked by a Mini, Swift Turbo, or Miata back in the day.

Still like that now.

Where's his mask? I see no social distancing in his car. Tard.
I'm done with JV, waiting for the day when he gets traded for a bag of pucks. FailFish

Feel like a change of scenery will be beneficial. Seems a bit too comfortable playing in his home city.

No question that Virtanen has the speed, skill and size to succeed in today's NHL but those can only go so far if you don't put the work ethic in so yup... wouldn't be against trading him/letting him walk, he's had his chances and plenty of it

He's severely lacking in the hockey IQ department and that was always one of the biggest knocks on him leading up to the draft.

People underestimate the importance of sports IQ. I love how someone like Phil Kessel can show up overweight and still put up decent points.

Starting to catch up to him. His numbers are way down this year.
Kessel has a specific skill set and needs players that play a certain way for him to succeed.

Look at the twins, they feed each others but the year Daniel was out, Henrik showed he can play with others and still produce.

Burrows is a really good example of hockey IQ. not everyone succeeded playing with the twins.

Jmac 08-17-2020 01:06 PM

If Kessel had the work ethic of Crosby, he’d probably be close to Crosby’s level.

Instead, he reminds me of Kovalev. An insanely talented player who was a star on the absolute minimum amount of effort required.

Jake doesn’t have that level of talent. He needs to put the work in to be a player in this league and he’s quickly getting himself into Benoit Pouliot/Brett Connolly territory where they wasted their early-20s not living up to their potential where they could’ve established themselves as franchise cornerstones and then are grasping for NHL jobs in their late-20s as journeymen.

sonick 08-17-2020 01:30 PM

And yet, there were so many on twitter criticizing Green for not dressing Jake in the exhibition game

Jmac 08-17-2020 01:50 PM

I mean, what successful playoff team has relied exclusively on their top players? You need depth in the playoffs because your stars are going to get smothered at times and you’re going to lose guys to injuries.

The Canucks have 9 players who have played 5 or more playoff games so far that have 1 or fewer points (7 have 0, 2 have 1), with Jake in that group. Jake was on pace for 42 points when the season ended early because of COVID. That’s solid depth scoring. The Canucks need that if they’re going to make a run. They can’t just rely on Bo, Petey, and Hughes to carry this team through.

I can definitely understand the frustration when Jake is getting scratched for a fringe NHLer who probably won’t be a difference maker when Jake can be. The problem is that he’s not.

bobbinka 08-17-2020 02:19 PM

my guess is that JV and Stech are gone after this season.

68style 08-17-2020 02:22 PM

As much as he's helping us this post season... Pearson is going to be gone I think? No way they can re-sign him if they intend on signing Toffoli and I think Toffoli is the superior player... Pearson had a career year but it's likely all downhill from here for him as he hits his 30's soon

Yah I know, I should have clarified... they need to trade him next year before the deadline...

But we have a habit of losing guys for nothing so... bleh

He has the speed and size to really get in on the forecheck and cause some damage (like Schenn) and he's been super passive. Aside from the one steal into a breakaway and the penalty, he was pretty invisible last night. Should be a wrecking ball.

Reminding me a lot of Shawn Matthias who wasn't quite as fast, but had the size, and he had 10 hits in 6 games. Virtanen is at 9 hits through 6 games. Motte has 25.

This. I'm really rooting for this kid to pan out but I shook my head last night too. There was a chance late in the 3rd where JV flew in to the offensive zone at full speed and had a chance to punish a Blues d-man and he let up. I couldn't believe it and thought.. you know, the Blues are running Stetch and Hughes every chance they get, they've knocked Myers out of last game and this game.. if I were a forward with his tools, I'd have been drooling at the opportunity for some pay back to paint a guy to the boards.

I was really disappointed he turned off the hit and thought if I were Hughes I'd be like WTF man, stand up for us.

Hondaracer 08-17-2020 03:23 PM

Have been loving the way Motte has been playing during the entire return. Skating his ass off and making up for some of Beagles shortcomings

I'm hoping the St Louis blew themselves up the last 2 games... If they can sustain that level of checking though, all the power to them and GG SeemsGood

I thought this too eye-test wise he’s been amazing but as The Athletic pointed out he played more minutes than Petey last night which is bizarre and his corsi was fucking brutal

WD-40 08-17-2020 06:41 PM

I was having an awesome day until now. I turn on the TV to watch the game and right off the bat, I see the rat.

Faulk, that guy is a butt fugly player. A face only a mudder could love. I think even she threw up a little when he popped out.

Oh, what a cute baby, said no one ever!

Ohh Loui. He probably would've missed if no one was in front of him.
