For people who were waiting for it to be "official" the CDC has added "wear a mask or a cover when going out in public" to their official Coronavirus guidelines.

They make a point that you shouldn't try to attain N95 masks intended for the healthcare industry. Surgical masks are effective enough.

Also this does not make you invincible - you still need to keep distance from people whenever possible.

If you can't get a mask, use a scarf or a bandana or ANYTHING else.

WHO haven't added it to their official guidelines, but:

Yes, it is china's fault for trying to hide it and potentially hiding the figures. But it is not their fault for the slow response and negligent of other countries such as the italy, canada and the US. There are plenty of other places who have taken up proper procedures at the beginning and have the virus well under control (Hong kong, Taiwan, Singapore, South korea).

Lets remember, it blew up to major proportions in china months before it hit other countries like the US. There was a solid 2 months of potential preparing time to stop a wide spread outbreak. Some countries have clearly reacted better then others.

Actually by lying to the WHO who in turn lied to their member countries, it pretty much IS their fault for the slow response by the rest of the world.

I do agree that there were people who knew how bad this would get, but because the borders couldn't be closed in time, this was pretty much inevitable. China missed the first step in potential containment (that unprecedented response should have happened in December, not late January when it was too late) and the second step (don't pressure countries to keep their borders open).

We had 2 chances to prevent this, but the CCP either wanted everyone to suffer with them so as not to "lose face" or seriously thought it wouldn't be an issue worth "losing face" over. So here we are.

Im just curious if I can find the 3-ply surgical masks or something similar/better locally for cheaper. would use this for regular outside errands and the KN95 for when I go grocery shopping or where there is more people around.

with that being said. what do you guys recommend for gloves?

Yes, but the demand is increasing and more people are finding out about artscow. If countries start recommending masks I can see them running out as soon as they get them. Remember this is going to last months.

Grab any cheap latex or vinyl gloves if you are using it for grocery purposes. The nearby asian grocery store i go to (Sungiven) offers gloves for free.

Nitrile gloves would be ideal but save them for first responder/hospital!

So just ordered 1 box from them, when I signed up they also gave an email for 25% off the entire site so 1 box was $100 taxes in. Thanks Manic.

I’m not overly concerned in wearing them right now but moreso if somthing comes out where you must wear them.

StylinRed 04-03-2020 05:22 PM

NY has a huge population, 43k confirmed cases isn't much

Vansterdam 04-03-2020 05:22 PM

are the ASTM surgical masks reuseable and if so how many times or is it 1 time use?

So what if people are selling kn95 .Mask? Will it still be illegal? I mean kn95 is not a standard we use here even though they are pretty much the same as n95? What about cotton mask with n95 filter? Health care facility and hospitals don't use cotton mask?

Throw them away once they get damp. If it's for like 10 minutes and not in a crowded area or whatever, I'll usually re-use one. Technically not supposed to though...

Do not touch the front of them after wearing out in public

Hondaracer 04-03-2020 05:39 PM

The solution to the mask war is simple, we tell this mill:

https://www.harmacpacific.com/

To stop sending pulp to the USA.

We don't get masks, they don't get masks.

Nope, China's cured. All the bears are dead from getting the bile sucked out of them but hey, you can't make an omelet without torturing some animals.

As for masks, has anyone gotten any from artscow before? I need some but with so many articles about bogus stuff coming in I'm a bit wary.

I do have one of these kicking around, though it's less convenient since I can't exactly share it and I'll have to clean it every time I take it off (vs throwing it out).

Dollarama had dust masks 2 for $2.50. the price was printed on the package. They covered the price with new stickers saying $3.50.

First two pics is from them. Decent mask very tight fit. Quality seems good. I also posted a video earlier where a person cut open the Kn95 maks and inside there are 4 layers. The company who makes them also seems legit.

Mikoyan 04-03-2020 07:31 PM

There's going to be a run on KN95s soon. FDA is going to allow them into the US as a N95 alternative.
