Looking back at the early expert predictions, we had Dr. Michael Osterholm on Joe Rogan saying 480K deaths, and then the experts at the UCSF panel putting it at 1.2-2.1 million deaths. Dr. Nicholas Christakis on Sam Harris didn't put out an infection number IIRC, but said he expected a 0.6% death rate. That would be somewhat in line with Osterholm's probably.

It was hard enough to fathom those numbers then, still tough to imagine now.

If you think the US has it bad, imagine what it was like for the people in China with Wuhan under lockdown. All those people in there, just waiting for their time to come. It must have literally been like an apocalyptic zombie movie. We'll never know. I heard they're starting to see outbreaks again (as predicted)

Question about EI.

Because of Covid, I had to apply for EI.
After I applied for EI. How do I know if I am qualified and what do I do now?

I heard today its going to be 3-6 weeks to be paid but not sure if that was related to the emergency benefit, or both. You will be contacted when your application has been processed to let you know if you have qualified. Likely by phone. If you are not qualified don't stress too hard. The emergency benefit is supposed to cover people who are ineligible for any reason.

We were talking across the fence and I could hear the mom had a cough, and she said she just got off the phone with 811 said her symptoms are consistent with COVID. We'll see how it goes. Thank god my kid hasn't played with their kid since february.

I use Ray Queen, it's a Korean brand sterilizer using UV light. They market it for mother's for baby bottles and toys but in the instruction book they further expand into electronics like cell phones, remotes etc. The reality is you can out whatever fits inside I mostly use it for electronics and the odd plush doll.

When I watched on Global and they say 1%, I shouted a big F U. Anything less than 50% won't make a difference; now if you come in at 20%... I won't take it for granted. 1% is a MOFO insult. take it and shove it up your ass.

In this order:
Commission payout then severance payout (if you're in sales).
THEN you qualify for EI. Up to max ~$500 a week on EI.
THEN you get COVID package if its still there when you finish up your EI.
You can't double dip.
There is technically "no wait" now. Back then, you have to deal with RoE (record of Employ) and then all these waiting time... now they bypassed it.

DON'T bother calling EI, cause the wait is 2 hours unless you call at 5:30 AM PST.
