Hopefully the vaccines are still effective against this new strain/variant/mutation. If not, we are screwed. I heard somewhere the vaccines that are being distributed presently were already being worked on from the days SARS hit. They are all related one way or another.

Still too early to freak out about it.

How long did it take for you to get your confirmation email? I got the confirmation number, but no email and it's been well over 24 hours now.

Gonna hold off until the bugs get worked out. Keep us posted on how things go

Add me to the list. Haven't got any confirmation myself, either.

Gumby 12-20-2020 01:06 PM

Unless you are in dire need of money at the moment, why are you guys rushing to sign up for the BC recovery benefit? Like Teriyaki, I’m holding off for now.

Maybe in three months, they’ll say you weren’t actually eligible... :troll:

GIZZ 12-20-2020 01:11 PM

For some reason I couldn't help but wonder if it's a coincidence the first place they roll out the vaccine is the same place where a new strain pops up. I hope there's no connection or this new strain will be all over very soon.

I still have no idea why the so many countries are relying on a vaccine when it could have been locked down long ago. Asia style, let the virus run it's course.

westopher 12-20-2020 01:26 PM

The new strain was detected in September. There is no correlation to the vaccine release dates

EvoFire 12-20-2020 01:29 PM

Read the fine print and looked at our tax returns. Don't think we qualify as "net income" means net after deductions, but before taxes.

westopher 12-20-2020 02:23 PM

Fuck I got tricked with that too haha. I like how net = gross when it comes to qualifying for government money. Oh well, guess papa Horgan isn’t paying for e30 parts for Christmas.

Worst case, you give the money back. It's not like I am going to spend it all right now, but I am also not gonna turn down free moolah.

Well, I just got a confirmation email but they are requesting two bills with Dec 18th included in the date range. None of my bills/bank statements include 18th in the cycle, so I will have to wait until next month to complete the application, unless, of course, there is a way to "force" a statement on today.

Jmac 12-20-2020 04:27 PM

Looks like I got an e-mail at 4:45 PM this evening. I filled out the application on Friday at around 4:30 PM.

It wasn't that bad. It took a handful of reloads to get in but, aside from the Canada Post address verification which took a few tries, I didn't have to reload again.

Have your information ready to go (driver's license, SIN, direct deposit info) and it's pretty smooth. Most of the people I've seen complain about it on my FB feed indicated that it timed out on them when they were trying to find their license/SIN/bank info.

As of Monday, Canada will no longer allow inbound passenger flights from the United Kingdom in an effort to prevent a new variant of the coronavirus from making it into the country.

The ban will not apply to cargo flights, or flights where no one gets off of the plane.

“Will remain in effect for 72h”

Basically as long as you’re 19+ as of December 18, 2020, a resident of BC, filed your income taxes for 2019, made less than $87500 net income in 2019 ($175000 net for a family), have a valid SIN, have a valid driver’s license or alternative ID, and a bank that accepts direct deposit, you should qualify for at least a partial benefit.

I feel the fact that people's eligibility for this latest round of benefits is based on 2019 tax return is not the right approach... :considered:

Dr. Bonnie's Covid briefing for the past weekend:

1667 new cases
5 new outbreaks.

Dr. Bonnie mentions that the Covid mutation in UK can be as many 17 different variants. Although these new strains are not more deadly as previous Covid strains, these new mutations are much more transmissible than previous Covid virus strains.

Dr. Bonnie said that she and her colleagues will be watching very carefully to see if these new Covid variants respond differently to vaccines.
