I'm hearing that airport screening is SO SO lax ... it's like honour system. You tick double vaccination off in check in (or yes to pcr test) and can walk through without anyone checking you at any point! But there are 'spot' checkers or random and if you do get caught, then you're up the creek but how can this be?

Yeah when I flew back from NY I never got asked or checked
Made me kinda cranky that I wasted money on a pcr test, got even angrier when I found out some pharmacies offer free pcr tests too in the states  | |

I did read it's 500x more transmissible as delta
So by the time they even discovered the new strain you know it's already made its way around the globe, not to mention by the time they decide to shut the barn doors

I was talking to my sister about the super strict quarantine here.. My explanation was that China (and thus HK) fully expects Covid to get even worse than it already has been... Yes, including 2020.
They want to be literally the only country that survives this relatively unscathed
If you like to travel, you better do so now. If you can get a China or HK passport or residency, you better work on getting that.  | |

Japan closing its borders once again to all foreign nationals, due to omicron.
I think they're at 0 cases of omicron now and this is the only way to keep it that way without having a strict quarantine like China and HK.
Expect full lockdowns in 2022 in some countries, if possible
30 mutations, I hope they can work on an adjusted vaccine for this

Something to keep in mind is that most young Africans (20's-30's) are mostly only half vaccinated... And if that was a few months ago, they might as well be unvaccinated
This would be a good time to consider getting a booster if you didn't have a too bad reaction to the first shot.

Canada has very limited doses of that last I heard
Think other than qualifying for that treatment ud have to go buy it from the states

There is no need to freak out about Omicron yet -- while it may well be more contagious than delta, so far, the front line doctors in S.Africa are saying the symptoms of those who have tested positive for it are generally quite mild.
I am not at all suggesting anything about Omicron, but generally speaking, viruses evolve on a trajectory where they become more infectious, but also less potent. Let's hope this is the case for Omicron while we go back to being more careful in our daily lives and observe how this plays out.
On a personal level, I really hope the situation wouldn't deterioate to a point where we'd have to close the Canada-US land border again. However, I am not at all optimistic about this.  | |
