I actually wonder why people act like it's still nothing.

Maybe because "media blew it out of proportion" so people got tired of it and wanted to "show them" by acting against the recommendations?

I mean it's not the apocalypse, but staying home and practicing social distancing when you are out are the responsible things to do for others. Maybe people are just selfish?

Just thinking out loud.

^ I don't blame people...

This is what my mom said.
40 yrs ago, we listen to our parents.... "back in our days.... blah blah blah"
20 yrs ago. I'm only going to trust what my mom says maybe 1/2 the time... I'm going to do some research.
10 yrs ago. With the help of internet... people tend to believe only a fraction of what is legit.

5 yrs ago. If there ain't a video.. it ain't real.

NOW: Even if there is a video, if it doesn't HIT home, (close to my BFF or my family), I am still going to say meh...

I'm just as guity, 30 days ago... whatever China... won't happen to me... now it's like.. wtf... state of emergency, delivery only....

You are not going to believe this but a lady called our gas station saying she has covid 19 but her partner who just had a stroke is out of smokes. so she wanted me to take her credit card over the phone then she would drive by our front door so I could toss it in her car. I told her no and told her not to leave the house.

Badhobz 03-21-2020 03:46 PM

Just had another group FT with some friends from all over, Toronto local and here, one of their sisters who is also a good friend joined as well who lives and owns a business in Revelstoke. She said people are taking it 100% serious there, streets are deserted, virtually no business open, and even her friends are like yea, best if we don’t hang out etc.

A small town like revelstoke with likely zero cases, very little exposure, can take it dead serious, yet in the lower mainland with the majority of the population and the highest risk of transmission peeps be on dat YOLO shit

Drove past Rocky Point earlier. Parking lot was mostly full with cars still entering. There were quite a few people walking on the sidewalk but I imagine there were a ton more people in the park itself.

Later on I drove past Town Centre / Lafarge. Waaaay worse. Grandpa holding on to junior's scooter so junior can balance while 6 relatives cluster together less than 1 meter behind, Couples locking shoulders together like prisoners. Shirtless teens playing basketball. One woman jogging with her partner and only wearing a sports bra. Old people everywhere. Lots of old people residences in that area too.

That Dufferin care centre near Coquitlam centre was hit and lots of seniors in that area too. It's no wonder BC is now considered the epicentre of Canada. I feel unclean just thinking about that.

I will have no sympathy for any of these people who get sick. I will have tremendous sympathy for any health care worker who would have to deal with these ill tards. We've been warned every single day and people still don't get it.

Anyone who says 'I should have listened', they know they're in deep shit and they fucked up...

westopher 03-21-2020 05:17 PM

Ambleside beach was fucking shitpacked. I went out for a drive with no intention of stopping anywhere.
Close the fucking beaches. I’m not looking forward to my wife having to take care of these fucking retards.

I think by now, everyone on RS knows that shit has hit the fans.

But something to remind everyone, this virus is going to hit us hard. The spreading speed, ability and current scale mean that it's going to be a long while before we fully recover from the aftermath.

I've discussed it with many people... F&F, my mentors and more... the best logical conclusion we reached was "prepare for the absolute worst case you can realistically imagine, then you'd probably be ok."

Thus, in preparation for the long term, you should be altering your habit. If you used to do grocery every week, make it so that you can go every 2 or more. If you always thought about adding a fridge/freezer to your place, it's probably a nice time to do that.

After all, that preparation, get your life back to normal as much as you can. If you like to go out for a walk/trek, choose places/time where you know you can avoid crowd. Things like gloves, hand sanitizers (it's OOS now, but I think it should come back after a bit) and masks should be something in your car/counter/entrance to your place.

And maintain a healthy lifestyle from now on. The virus seems to attack those already with health issues (diabetics, heart problems, respiratory problems... etc). If you keep your body healthy, chances are, even if you get infected by the virus, it'd be just another nasty flu.

All those are good habits to have in the long term anyway... after all, we live in an area where earthquakes and storms can hit us hard. So, if you needed a reason to convince you, now you have it.

Stay safe everyone!

The lesson of this should be - listen to ACTUAL experts. Ignore the TV doctors, ignore the politicians. There are people who devote their lives to dealing with this shit, and have been for DECADES.

It's what I did, and that's why I've been trying to warn you guys for 2 months now. I've been through this with SARS, so I knew what to look and where to look. I know what the CCP does. Like legitimately they are evil. Look at the history of this thread, I said there was NO way this would be contained, and no way this wouldn't be a very serious pandemic. At least half the world infected, whole cities shut down, thousands dead. The main issue was going to be hospital overcrowding, etc.

All of this was predicted by the epidemiologists, practically word for word. They'd say something, and 2 weeks later it would be true. WHO sat on their hands, handcuffed by China, and that just made it all possible.

I mean there's not much you can do until your govt does something, but I do hope at least some people were getting prepared for this. I mentioned to people - don't panic, be prepared, go stock up (do NOT hoard) on supplies (DO NOT HOARD).

Some people fought with me about it (and some told me I had to apologize to them), but this isn't an "I told you so" post. It still applies today - listen to the actual experts. Politicians have a selfish agenda. "TV Doctors" have a selfish agenda. The epidemiologists have an agenda that is to deal with outbreaks like this the best they possibly can.

We drove to Iona beach just a quick cruise around the airport and holy crap was it full of people and cars. Tons of cars parked before the furthest part of Iona beach parking lot. Lots of people riding their bicycles. There was no way in hell I was getting out.

I live kind of out in the boonies, but near a hiking trail entrance. I noticed a lot more people than usual on the trails, especially families with kids (usually it's just old people on Sundays). Seems a lot of people are doing outdoor activities out of the crowds these days, rather than going shopping which is by far the most popular weekend activity. Hope they stick to it even after this!

So the exact same thing happened here. Everyone avoided crowds to do outdoor activities, and all that did was create crowds out there! LUL

These were just my own anecdotal observations based on living near some trails; I've seen pictures of other more popular trails on the weekend, and they look like lineups at Disneyland EleGiggle

was driving on Terminal ave this afternoon and there was huge line up to Home Depot...
I guess because they are limiting the number of customer's in the store, but people suddenly have to do their home improvements NOW?

Guys, the radio, news and health minister have told people to go outside.

I came in from PoCo to do something for my mother in law. Worked their garden and picked up a few things. I was actually really suprised to see how dead Broadway was. Impressed.

PoCo is a bumping metropolis in comparison these days.

Funny, when people started doing that early on, they were mocked for "panic buying"
