In my opinion we dropped the ball . Few weeks ago our airports had nothing set up to screen incoming passengers. If China and Iran had outbreaks we should have halted flights or had more strict screening at airports. It's a lesson for all of us and that is to act proactive and not wait until it gets worst. |

the long version: i dont think any entities actually believe they can wipe it out that soon. Several weeks would help tremendously to alleviate strain on infrastructure/systems, so healthcare workers dont have to practise battlefield medicine picking who gets to live who gets to die having several weeks also limit asymptomatic spread they're also wishing slightly warmer temps can slow the virus, doesnt seem realistic now governments say 3 weeks helps buy time to develop vaccination but even 6 months would be incredibly optimistic for fda approval Quote:

An interesting take, albeit bordering on conspiracy. However, if all the countries in the world China is probably the least likely to look out for the greater good of humanity https://i.imgur.com/ymdSlHB.png https://i.imgur.com/oFjSeER.png |
recovery from covid can be upto 6 weeks. how the hell 2-3 weeks of lockdown gonna solve this. |

More than 'fighting back' all this will do is increase the amount of racism there already is towards Asian people. There's already people getting beat up for no good reason, and now their president is adding fuel to the fire. I am constantly blown away by how utterly stupid this person is. I don't even get it. Is he trolling the world? :fulloffuck: |

**edited 83, not 86. 83 new cases today in BC... watch live here: |
There is no end game. Look at Singapore + Taiwan... any country that is not from asian (been thru extreme SARS), are still treating this as "vacation / time off" Italy + Spain + germany + France are about 3 weeks ahead of us. If US + Canada is going to follow footsteps, then you'll see city shut down very soon. Since we did shut down school, now borders, what's next.... Depending on how servere, US will have lock downs.. Canada will have outbreaks but I don't think it'll lock down eg// Nelson / Fort St. John / 100 mile house... so i wnat to see what's going to happen. Canada can't go in and clamp down hard, it'll slowly strap the country down slowly. |
From low risk to public health emergency... does this mean its still low risk? what a joke "British Columbia has declared a public health emergency and announced 83 new cases of the novel coronavirus and three new deaths." |
This video is just heartbreaking. |
Poorly written tweet, but basically he's saying the sooner a country does a full lockdown, the earlier we'll be able to identify who has the virus, and they can be quarantined properly. Possibly as quickly as 2 weeks. This also hinges on closing the borders. |
Still don't understand why they keep saying they are trying to slow down the spread... something like these need to stop immediately. The slowing down is just gonna drag on even longer down the road. When more people die from this Trudeau will have blood on his hand. A simple sorry will not cut it when he try to apologise at a press conference to the people and childs who lost their family during this. When he have the power to stop this thing dead on it's track right now. |

That Tweet is stupid. China didn't want to bring everyone down like he claims, how fucking stupid is that guy? They did it because like Trump, at the time they didn't understand it, thought they could control it and develop a solution sooner than later. China is heavily dependent on the world economy just like everyone else. Edit: repeated myself |

My personal opinion, it's already far too late to contain. We already have a crystal ball seeing three weeks ahead in Italy. We've done nothing different. I see absolutely no reason why we'd have a different outcome. |
Regardless of what Trudeau says or does, people aren’t taking it seriously Just went for a walk and the playgrounds are packed with kids, parents standing face to face chatting away etc. |
So how do we actually keep track of the numbers? Just people that get really sick? What about all the people with sore throats or light coughs that self quarantine and recover. Do they ever get properly tested? |

My cousin in Calgary has the symptoms, which are mild enough so far (no major breathing issues). She was in contact with someone who tested positive. She's 48 :heckno: |
Now might be a good time to supplement Vitamin D. Research shows it can lower the risk of respiratory infection by as much as 50% in people who are deficient and 10% in people who had normal levels. Note that none of this specifically applies to C19 This is important coming out of winter, most Canadians will be deficient, especially those with darker skin. |
I realize this is a forum (and also RS), but man this is getting kinda wack. Your (not aimed at anyone) anecdotal experiences do not reflect upon Canadian society as a whole. Most Canadians (except experts in this field, which I assume aren't fighting on RS) are just normal people trying to navigate through this shitstorm of something most of us never experienced before, trying to balance out living a somewhat regular life, doing what officials are telling us to do, and looking out for the health and safety of our loved ones while also trying to weed out the misinformation and downright bullshit that seems so prevalent this day and age. Obviously it makes sense to look at other countries and their situations and responses, but you also have to realize that cultures, government policies, standards of living, etc., are all very different than here. I'll use S. Korea as an example, because I'm Korean and my parents are currently there. They tested fucking everybody - we obviously can't do that here because Korea experienced outbreaks before and had a plan with resources and infrastructure in place. Then they traced back the steps of positive cases and informed people that may have been exposed, because they have so many fucking CCTVs and location tracking and all these things that we don't have in place here. Consensus is SKorea has a bit of a handle on things right now, and their response to this is mostly praised except a select group of people - fucking South Koreans. It's politically motivated but hardcore conservatives in Korea are outraged over the president's response to this - and are spreading misinformation like photoshopped images of the president using the wrong hand to cover his heart when singing the national anthem. Let's leave that shit out of here. I see people fighting on FB because government said healthy people shouldn't wear masks, and how it's just a ploy because there's a mask shortage. Well fuck, if there really is a mask shortage, what is arguing about it going to do? Canada is not like Asia where wearing masks is a common thing because our air quality is far better than theirs, and therefore it doesn't make sense to have a huge stockpile of masks other than medical use. "But Hong Kong has a small outbreak because everyone wore masks!!" - maybe, but how is that going to help us now other than inciting panic and having shitheads steal masks from hospitals for people that actually really need them. You also have to realize that we really do live in one of the best places on Earth - and that has produced a LOT of stupid, entitled people. Idiots that will block a busy intersection in front of a hospital so they can 'raise awareness' for something they have nothing to fucking do with. Idiots that will buy $70K worth of lysol wipes and flip them for huge profit at the expense of others because capitalism ftw! Idiots who hoard 400L of perishable milk and idiots who blatantly go to crowded places and bitch that their concert is cancelled. "Locking down" is easy in theory but take a step back and think about it - who will enforce this? What about the idiots who scream "but muh human rights!". How is the economy going to survive when the government just shuts everything down? "Trudeau is a pussy for letting Americans in!!" Have you considered that Americans really have no desire to come up here for leisure because their shit is also hitting the fan, haard? We ban Americans, the big cheeto down south retaliates out of sheer childishness because MAGA, and now there really is a food/supply shortage. Then you'll blame Trudeau for fucking us over! It's a fucked up time right now, whether you think this is overblown or not. Just be adequately prepared as much as you can without being assholes hoarding shit you don't need, stay the fuck home if you're sick, and do what you're told by the government not because you're sheeple, but because it's the fucking decent thing to do when everything is so uncertain. Everyone is scared, if not of the virus than at least with all the sudden changes - but remember that there are people much worse off than you that actually may not make it through this, and lend a helping hand when you can. Be nice to retail workers, and be nice to elderly people and vulnerable people. Just be nice, and stop bickering about things that honestly don't matter at this point. Fucking be what Canadians are stereotyped for being. Spoiler! /rant. |
nothing wrong with criticizing all levels of the government when we were literally caught with our pants down from failure to learn from places like italy how do you go from low risk to state of emergency in a day? we fucked up that's how...waited until almost 200 cases and 4 deaths to get off our asses just because we have stubborn/entitled individuals in the population doesn't mean we should sit idle and let the strain depopulate us cultural differences? different standards of living? who cares, we are all the same in the end, rich or poor, chinese or italian-- the virus doesn't discriminate |
