And it wasn't like Toffoli was one of those players that sucked on the Canucks and got a lot better on another team after. He was one of the top players. DimJim be like but we better sign 3rd and 4th plugs to top dollars...

It's still fucking infuriating that he used a "we ran out of time" excuse when he was already property of the Vancouver Canucks. It's not like you were trying to sign him as a UFA and couldn't talk to him until UFA period started.

How do you even, run out of time? Like did you forget their contract was expiring until the night before like a university paper and just said... Guess I'll just fail the course? NBD.

Benning was confident Canucks had the offense necessary without Toffoli so he spent all his time trying to bolster the defense by chasing after OEL.

Toffoli simply wasn't a priority because his price was probably more than Jimbo valued him at, given he believed in Canucks current top 6..
