You guys are forgetting that the expansion draft was set up to make Vegas a competitive team from the start compared to expansion drafts in the past.

I remember the year Vegas made it........... almost. They made believers out of a lot of people. I was cheering them on. Who cares how they got there. It would have been great to see. I'm old school and I enjoyed watching every game.

You know what, that first season I actually did cheer for Vegas. It was a great story; a bunch of essentially unwanted players banding together to make a cup run. Also, as an aside, it would have meant the Capitals would still be in the sad club with us (of which, we are the undisputed presidents).

This year, I'd rather see MTL advance but they likely won't. In the east, I'd like to see NYI advance just to change things up. Tampa is such a good team though, it'll be difficult lol.

I also don't care for Vegas. Their fanbase has been spoiled since day one.
Sure, they never actually go all the way, but how nice is it to have a legitimate CUP contending team year after year after year. We're not even talking about just a playoff team, we're talking about being one of the cup favourites.

The Disney movie version of Vegas is a bunch of players that their old teams didn't believe in, and then Emilio Estevez is inspired and coaches them to the Finals. In reality teams were pretty much forced to leave good players unprotected and with the cap Vegas was in a very favorable situation to build a decent team with no bad lines.

Don't get me wrong they did a great job, but it wasn't exactly Moneyball where they did something no one else thought of before, they just hand picked good players.

I enjoyed the misfit storyline of VGK’s first year but I was sure as shit happy that they didn’t win the Cup year one.

Now it’s just funny/somewhat annoying how many “OG VGK fans” there are in Vancouver simply because they saw so much success early on. KEKW

I disagree. It makes no sense to subject yourself to following a shitty team with shitty ownership and shitty management for years. All it does it bring negativity in your life. Just look at this thread, it's nothing but complaints, no positivity about the team at all.

IMO it's better to cut ties until things get better, instead of spending a bunch of mental energy on it. If someone calls you a bandwagon or whatever, who cares? Let them do all the complaining. It's not like things are going against them that they can't change, which makes them a loveable underdog. They're a huge corporation run by millionaires who are just trying to make money. Follow that sure, it's a product you might like. But to be a fan of that? Fuck that.

If the Canucks aren't trying to be better to earn our fandom, why should we be giving it to them?

"Bandwagon" fans should be respected, because they are the ones who will actually cause ownership to make drastic changes, instead of doing the status quo for years while 'hardcore' fans keep buying merchandise.

That said, true fans earn the right to complain as long as it’s not just parroting/talking shit but genuine comments and discussion.

There is WAYYYY too much negativity in this thread. Makes it hard to read. All I read is people complaining and bashing this team. How soon you guys forget just 10 short months ago, this was the best team in Canada. How soon you guys forget that Covid decimated this entire team. How soon you guys forget that arguably the teams best player didn't even play half the year. You take out the best player on any team (not including TB) and that team will suffer. There are young core guys on this team other teams would kill for. Petey, Brock, Bo, JT, Hoglander, Podkolzin on offence. Quinn and Rathbone on D and Demko in goal. Maybe I'm the only person on RS that's excited about the future of this team.

For me personally, I support a product that entertains me. If it sucks I'm not going to invest any money or time into watching it. If it's good then sure, I'll watch it as well as support them financially. It doesn't mean I'm not a fan it means I have better shit to do than watch garbage.

It's been that way for any sport I watch. Why would I watch something terrible if I don't have to? There's no badge of honor being a fan through thick and thin, no one cares. If the Canucks win the cup we will all be cheering, and anyone who tries to say "I've been a fan the whole time!" will be drowned out by all the screaming, because who gives a shit.

Yes, there is a lot of negativity in this thread, but it’s not directed at the players. It’s mostly directed at management.

You can have the best players in the world but you’re not gonna win if management continuously makes questionable decisions.

Time is expensive, hockey and Canucks is just entertainment.
If I'm having a good time, then I'll follow more passionately. If I'm not, then I'll reduce my investment to just watching highlights or checking in with this page as my source of info.

For sure as hell, I couldn't switch to another team though. It's Canucks or no hockey for me.

As for all the negativity, it's just really a form of showing you care. If you're not upset and disappointed, then you were never that invested in the first place.

Look up the official definition of Fanatic and see if you'd want to be associated with that type of individual, for anything to be honest, not just a sports team.

Maybe in my younger years I'd care about being a bandwagon fan, but to Skinny's point as I've gotten older there's enough shit to deal with, don't need sports to be a bummer too. Things in life I can control I would prefer they bring joy and inspiration to my life, not the other way around.

That said, I continue to follow Canucks, the players, and the stories, but I'm not gonna waste 6-12 hours a week watching them lose most of the time.
