holy shit, TRIPLE OT for rangers and pens. Pens already started the game with backup goalie and he leaves in 2nd OT. Louis Domingue in net and doing a good job!
Edit: Pens win! Great job Louis!

Penguins with 80 something shots lol
Playoff hockey is great. I don't care what anyone says, I hope a Canadian team wins. Even the Laffs or Phlegms or Coilers

the first round of playoff hockey is so good, I feel sorry for the people that can only watch the team they follow.

The Surrey Eagles have been sold to new owners, the BC Hockey League announced Wednesday morning.
According to a press release, the junior ‘A’ league’s board of governors has approved the sale of the team from local real-estate developer Chuck Westgard – a longtime fixture on the Semiahmoo Peninsula sports scene – to Surrey businessmen Ron and TJ Brar, who are owners of Evergreen Herbs, a company described as “a leading provider of fresh herbs and vegetables to grocery stores across the country.”
“My brother and I were born and raised in Surrey and that’s where our passion for hockey first started,” said Ron Brar.
| Big news for the South Asian community. This will help bring more minority players to the NHL.

how do you figure that? maybe to their Junior A team, doesn't mean an NHL club is going to pick them up.

Minor league hockey is very competitive. If you are a parent that has never played hockey it can be very confusing. Having someone in the community that's high up and knows the ins and outs will help. I believe the two brothers who bought the team have kids that are very good at hockey and will probably play for the team.
My nephew actually played a few games with them before entering the WHL.

I'd hope if you're good enough your talent would push you up there and kids aren't getting held back by their ethnicity but I guess I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
My sons buddy was drafted into the WHL this year to play for the Blades but he's going to skip that because he had an even better opportunity to go to Michigan and play for the USA National under 17 Development team, his dad is an American Citizen so he's able to play there. He's a minority, it hasn't held him back.
It's funny because when they say some kids are just good at shit it's so true, I watched him play Lacrosse and Football and he was the best kid in the league at either sports, some kids are just naturally gifted lol. I hope he's able to see his dream through and play in the NHL but even making it as far as he has he's got an uphill battle.
The cost to play at the level he's played at is the biggest obstacle, his parents had people donating but I'm sure they went into huge debt they certainly aren't rich. I asked his mom one day what it was costing her and 4 years ago she told me she was spending around 50K a year on him with all the tournaments, private lessons, playing for the Barnaby Winter Club and literally travelling around the world to play all before he was 16.

Kids get left behind because parents don't know what steps to take to help their kids. Some don't want to sent their kids who are 15/16 to live in Moose Jaw to play hockey. Having someone from the community say your kids really good and these are the next steps you should be taking when a kid is 10 or 11 helps.
In the last 20 years you have seen a big increase in minority players in hockey. A number playing in the BCHL and WHL. There is actually a documentary being done on South Asian players in te BCHL/WHL.

Has the first round of games ever been so uncompetitive? Teams are winning between 5-0 and 5-3. They are all blowouts.

Opening games are always a bit whacky with a lot of blowouts. Things will even out by game 3 and it'll be clearer if teams are evenly matched or not.

Handing the 2 time defending champs a loss in dominating fashion then bam Lightning come back get a split and now have home ice advantage. Doesn't matter how decisively any game was a split is a split and now we're all even again.

I've always thought it is better to start series on the road, bit less pressure, try to get one game, and now you theoretically gained home ice advantage. Eg. If Lightning takes game 3 ...pressure is on Leafs in game 4. If Lightning can take next 2 games at home ...series would be practically over.

but that's what makes it more exciting... the underdog thing! And obviously as we've seen so far the NHL has pretty amazing parity.
I'm just glad it's nothing like soccer or international hockey... 1 game knockouts are so lame.

ie. Minnesota vs St. Louis
Series tied 1:1
Games:
4-0 blues
6-2 minnesota

Seems like there's a lot of parity in the league these days, that's why you can't have a losing period like the Canucks did to start the season.
