ya'll talk about Mike Smith
but everyone ignores the fact that a large chunk of salary was wasted on Duncan Keith.
I watched the entire series, i don't think Kieth was dressed? or was just completely invisible lol

Mike smith did what he could. His team just sucks. Oilers had every chance to beat a backup goalie but they got blank in game 2.

Mike Smith seems like he never takes accountability for his own play and mistakes. The way he acts is like its always someone elses fault. Hate goalies like that.

The nauseating thing, if you're McDavid, is that Smith is on contract for one more year at $2.5M ... don't know if you can trade his old ass. Can't just run this back another year.
C'mon Holland, do what everyone else knows you gotta do ... find yourself a steady/reliable goalie.

$55M allocated for 2023+ with only NINE players signed.
So they got what… 27.5M with which to sign 14 other players?
They’re still carrying a $2M cap hit through 2024 for James Neal hahaha
$42M alone is wrapped up in just Nurse, McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman and Nuge
Barrie and Ceci make another $7M… Kassian is $3M….
I still can't get over the fact Nurse makes more than Draisaitl and almost as much as McDavid... just boggles my mind.

I was thinking about Edmonton the last couple days looking at their roster and cap and feel the same way that they're basically screwed. I almost feel bad in a way it's like damn you have the #1 player in the league and then arguably top 3 in Drai and to know it'll take one hell of a miracle to build a cap compliant team to actually have a legit chance while in their prime? Good luck.
Which really got me thinking a lot about our team. We all know we gotta deal with the sign or let go of Boes, sign or trade Miller etc But the way I see it is fuck we were already capped out not a playoff team, faaaar from a contender and somehow we're going to try and find more money to make no additions to the team. Let's not forget Bo is due soon too. Another cluster fuck and I'd love to see how the new bosses get us out of this jam.

We got the goaltender they need though haha...
I saw some people discussing this on an Athletic article the other day... basically saying to take the team down to the wood with Petey, Hughes and Demko... 1 of Horvat/Miller/Boeser kind of start over.
I personally think there's a significant reason Petey only signed an extension with us, he'd be a tough sell on a rebuild I think he'd leave. We're really fucked... need to hit that window when your superstars are still affordable and right when we have a surrounding cast coming up to compliment them, our best players will have become unaffordable... timing is all wrong unfortunately.

Petey only signed a 3-year contract so he's gone if we do a full rebuild.
Demko is already 26+. Draft 18-year-olds and they'll be ready in 4+ years, at which point Petey is gone and Demko is 30+.
Then we have the ages of Horvat/Miller/Boeser's age.
We have our core for the foreseeable future and we just have to run with it and hope for the best.

I guess that's part of what makes him so unique and entertaining compared to the bots who are just really solid in net and unshakeable. Of course if it's your goalie, you want him to be remembered for being good and that's all... He reminds me of Hasek in some ways

As someone that plays in net, I hate goalies that act like this.
Have the elite mentality and thrive on making saves you're NOT supposed to save. Don't bitch and whine every time a shot was too difficult to handle because of this or that circumstance. No one would need a goalie that can make the easy saves a shooting tutor would.

I have no idea why Tortorella gets considered to coach ANYTHING... he shouldn't be in any conversation for it... did an absolutely awful job here and is a dinosaur that can't change.
I would also very much doubt that Quenneville is ever going to coach again after the Kyle Beach thing. Same with Babcock for his own bullying issues.
I could see Green going to the Flyers at this point... they're basically an AHL roster lol
