Skys the limit for petey. He can basically do everything, and hes bulking up nicely aswell. Only thing thatll stop him now are injuries. His next contract hes gonna cash in big time.
Man… Hamonic might have good reasons for his actions the last few years, but he must have one hell of a reputation if he can keep pulling this shit and teams want him at his age / talent level.
Petan played like shit, so many stupid decisions. Podkolzin seems like he could use some time in the minors (although he made a nice hit in the offensive zone). Hoagie looking invisible so far.
Theres been soo many rumors about Hamonics situation. At this point im hoping the Canucks can just terminate his contract in some way or get him off the books. Hes not a good enough defencemen to be pulling this shit. Even though he may have a good reason regarding his daughter, he seems to be the type that will need time off from the team multiple times throughout the season.
Dude. Sometimes putting family first shouldn't pin you as the villain. It is just a game. Put yourself in his shoes and see what type of decisions you make.
I think he means well, but let’s face it NHL stands for Not Here Long there’s thousands of guys wanting to take your job… he’s not good enough to have an open door to this type of league anytime he wants and that’s just a cold reality.

I would probably do the same thing he did. But one thing i wouldnt expect is me being immune to all this ridicule. Hes in a Canadian market, a Vancouver market where everything you do is analyzed with a fine tooth comb. Him saying that hes gonna miss training camp and the start of the season and possibly more cause of "family reasons" is like saying im gonna miss all that time "just cause" in any other market. With him being so vague people will just come up with there own conclusions to why hes missing time. There is 3-4 reasons why on this page alone. Is it fair? probably not, does he deserve privacy? Yes but being a pro athlete especially in Vancouver hes not gonna get it. Thats why Im not surprised at the least that the Vancouver media and its fans have reacted this way, people got mad at Petey for saying something so minimal like he wanted to play for a winner.......
Well the issue is that he's also leaving the team hanging in a very bad position.
It's not going to be good if this situation continues on where he's going to have to miss portions of the season again some time down the line.
I mean the fact that retiring or opting out was a possibility at one point, it makes it sound serious enough that maybe he just can't really commit to the season at all, but he's trying to hold on so he has a backdoor option to come back.

I guess conversely in the circle of players, they all talk, Canadian teams have a tougher time with taxation, media pressure and weather attracting talent......... it's not a super bad thing to have it out there that management/a team stoody by a guy even though it put them down. The intangibles of changing some minds of people about playing for us in the future are probably there?
Does anyone know why the Canucks haven't publicly announced the Petey and Hughes deals yet? I checked their official website, nothing. The Canucks fb page, the Canucks app, all nothing. The media announced the deals what? 2 days ago but still not an official announcement from the team. The deals are done right? Should we be concerned?

^ yes and no. You've been around long enough to know that the club releases updates to reliable sources (like LeBrun) to get ahead of the lawyers dotting the i's and crossing the t's ... and to satisfy the cray cray fanbase for PR.
The new contracts for Petey and Hughes are officially announced by JB:
Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has re-signed defenceman Quinn Hughes and forward Elias Pettersson each to multi-year deals. Hughes has re-signed for six years at an average annual value of $7.85 million and Pettersson has re-signed for three years at an average annual value of $7.35 million.
"We're extremely pleased to have agreed to terms with both Quinn and Elias," said Benning. "Quinn has emerged as one of the premier young defencemen in the league, and we're happy that we were able to make a deal that keeps him in Vancouver long-term. Elias is an exceptional offensive player whose speed and skill are complimented by a strong work ethic and desire to win. Both players will continue to be important parts of this team moving forward."
Sonick is a genius. I won't go into detail what's so great about his post. But it's damn good!
