Holy crap. How did you manage to do that kind of damage ?! |
^It's just rust/rot Ooof... not that far away from frontend turning into a checkmark if you had kept going on that all these years!!! |
It's both, The big tear in the frame rail where the shock tower sat was caused by when my uncle drove the car over a berm or something back in the early 80's. The Swiss cheese at the front of the frame rail is rust, probably exacerbated from an accident in the early 90's (aunt was backed into in a Canadian Tire parking lot) I guess the body shop that did the repairs at the time bondo'd the frame rail to hide the damage. |

Parked it for now. In the past, on rare occasion, I have driven it (top always down of course) during winter months as long as streets are dry, and there has been recent rain (cleaning all the salt /dust off the streets). The car actually gets nice and toasty as hot air from the engine wafts into the cabin. I don't see a drive happening anytime soon given how quickly temps have dropped. If its nice on Xmas day I'll take her out :) https://i.ibb.co/74zvG2p/2022-11-10-10-05.jpg |
dry salt better than wet salt? since it doesnt cake on as fast awesome top down day to rmd then granville island :) |
Looks like next week is all sunny. More drop top weather… in the middle of Nov. unheard of |
I was trying not to buy this car. My buddy and I went to Tumbler Ridge in August to get it. He wanted some really rare parts off it for his own Scirocco. Few months later and it's up for grabs - I couldn't resist. I owned a Scirocco for many years and have always missed the nostalgia of an early watercooled VW. This is a 16v car (pretty quick in period) that's been (poorly) restored at some point. Needs some love now. I need to throw these Momo wheels in the woods and find some teardrops or something else period correct for it. Too many VW's. I tried to get away from this brand for awhile but I'm all in again now. :fuckyea: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...29627aa7_b.jpgUntitled by GhstRidr, on Flickr |
You’re turning into Jason camisa. All you need is a cabriolet golf to complete the vw collection |
Local VW whisperer. |
Those cars are deceptively quick cuz they’re so light, i remember the brother of an old gf had just an 8v one and it gave my (admittedly not fast at the time) 68 Mustang a bit of a run through the Massey tunnel one night. They’re under 2,000lbs in some trims I think! |

JC has a great car collection tho - the VW's, the Cossie merc, the E30 wagon. The Dino! Very ecclectic, very much my style. He did a great vid on the Corrado too, so I automatically have to like him. I was a huge VW nerd from my very first car (Mk3 GTI) in 1998 up until I got my E36. I thought I'd grown out of the brand. But nostalgia is a hell of a drug. I get more enjoyment just cruising these days rather than pushing hard. There's a pile of us that are going back to our VW roots. |
Last photo before it went into storage. Hopefully I'll upgrade next year. https://i.ibb.co/VvVDtt8/IMG-3391.jpg |

Cringe worthy flex... https://i.postimg.cc/h42cKW7d/2021-08-02-18-04-54.jpg |
If any of you folks decide to visit Toronto and want to see some cringe worthy flexing where kids eat their meals and drink bubble tea on their GT3RS wings, stop by this plaza in Richmond Hill during the spring and summer. The flex here is strong. https://goo.gl/maps/5RcpuuvPubbughVHA |
