space it takes man... i almost put a wall mount rack in my garage then when i thought about getting a 7' barbell, storage for weights, bench, this and that... i needed at least a 10' x 6' area dedicated to the setup, minimum..

There are smaller setups where you can still do bench, squats and deadlift. I even saw (I think a custom setup) where it was a full cage but was able to fold completely flat when not in use. This guy even had mounts put onto the wall to hold plates flat against the wall so it used even less space that way.
Pretty damn smart and is ultimately my goal to have a similar setup one day lol..
side note: went to the gym today for first time in awhile due to work schedule. felt great! Also was happy to find out that doing dips and pull ups in the park kept my strength up so I didn't really struggle at all doing bench today |

To solve that I picked up an indoor rower for a full body cardio exercise and do a set of calisthenics as well.
Now I'm looking at a free standing pull up/dip setup because I hated the doorframe one I had. I talked to a friend who recommended a 4 post power rack. Now I'm in the rabbit hole of looking at a 4 post power rack, which would give me the potential of putting together a squat rack in the future.
I'm at a bit of a dilemma because part of the reason for a pull up/dip bar was just simplicity and it's $150 for a bar I THINK meets my needs.
The allure of growing into a squat rack is enticing though, but that comes at a significantly higher cost as putting together a squat rack would run up to $1000. And the space it takes. | Take a look at the plate loaded Bells of Tower cable tower squat rack: https://bellsofsteel.com/products/ca...47035627733044
Add a couple spotter arms and you've got yourself not only a squat rack but a pair of cable towers for all your other work for $1100 plus tax/delivery. It mounts to the wall and the foot print is about 2'x4' (plus spotter arms).
My office is 10'x10' and that's the front runner for me when I do put something in the house. I can put a folding wall mounted desk in between the towers for when I need to take calls and the footprint of the towers is no bigger than my current office desk so it's not too bulky (or I'll workout while I'm on a call - do some cable curls right in front of my clients). I plan on getting a 6' barbell as well - it'll still hold 300-500lbs depending on the plates so it's plenty.
X-Rivals Fitness on Marine is a distributor so you can save on delivery if you go through them.
The Rep Ares or Athena have real nice wall mounted systems too but you're looking at $3k and up for it.

That's why a home setup makes sense for him. It'll make the time commitment shorter and add convenience.

Who knows you might find a new shanghainese wife in the gym. | Yes you are right, but it's less about the kids and more about the well being of my wife.
Based on what I know about you, you'd do the same for spy balloon if you guys had kids. Quote:

I just could never get on board with a home gym, it's just not the same. I need to go somewhere, and be around people (even if I hate it when gym bros chat me up too much).
I feel like you need to leave the house and go somewhere for a sense of ownership and purpose when lifting, it's so easy to just be lazy and cut your workout short or skip it entirely when you're at home. The motivation just isn't the same, hence the whole stereotype of the home treadmill becoming the secondary clothing rack.

Everyone's different lol. I hate people, I hate waiting for equipment and I especially hate gym smell. Sprinkle in the occasional mother fucker who doesn't use deodorant and you've got quite the cocktail of no-fucking-thank-you once I have my home gym setup |

Going to the gym I feel a sense of occasion, like I am making an effort to impart a change, to better myself, to not be a fucking couch potato, and don't waste that momentum of actually getting off my ass.
Then there's the physical aspect of it, having to dedicate space, and now there's just one more thing to clean, to dust, to maintain. If I lived on my own I'd have a bed, a desk, a driving rig, and a fully stocked kitchen and that's it.
The problem I want to solve is to have the maximum breadth of exercise with minimal space and money commitments. Right now that consists of a yoga mat and rower. The debate is whether to go just a power tower (google taught me the name) or a 4 post power rack.
I do not want to have to do this at home, but between work, kids, and the lack of facilities nearby (my closest gym is Killarney Community Center and it's honestly a terrible gym), squeezing in a 30 minute workout before I eat lunch is my goal. That way I can dedicate myself to working out at least 5x a week, with Saturdays going to KCC when my son's schedule permits.
My next closest better facility is probably Anytime on Kingsway and Knight (15min drive) or Bonsor Community Center (10-15min drive)

It's shitty lighting, low ceilings, and equipment that's crammed together and a bit limited. Edmonds is alright during the day while Christine Sinclair is great (lotta hot chicks too though after school is full of broccoli heads).

That said, when I'm at the gym I tend to be more motivated (I tend to lift more), there's equipment I don't have at home (and never will) and the eye candy isn't bad at Sinclair.
OTOH it's a time thing - if I go to the gym on weekends I either leave my wife with no car or she has to drop me off and get me 1-2 hours later.
I've changed my workouts now so that one of my workouts can be done entirely from home then I have one that requires the gym but I do it on a weekday (and then I have my day with my trainer). Not ideal but my schedule can work with it.

Christine Sinclair would be WAY too far, and Edmonds is too far as well. Champlain does have a gym and it's not as busy as KCC, but it's equally small.
