If the suspect is a serial offender, I think it's the perfect time to point this out. Not sure if this is political or if it's just the facts of the matter. We're too lenient on criminals, this isn't news to anyone.

Could mean anything from suicide attempts to wellness checks to just general disturbances.
Important not to jump to conclusions about it, but with what we know, politicizing it in a "weak on crime" kind of angle is ridiculous. Like this isn't minority report and we can't arrest people on predicting future crimes by reading their thoughts.
Unless someone wants to advocate arresting everyone with a history of mental illness it's not a justice system failure.
That said, if someone punches me in the face cause they are crazy or punches me in the face cause they are mad, my face has the same result. The punishment should be equal result as well.
There is a pretty fair angle to take that mental health support systems are lacking in this country, but the "lost liberal decade" has actually improved that from near nothing before, it just hasn't come close to keeping up with the prevalence or population influx.
With the info known there's really nothing people should be saying other than this is horrible and doing what they can to help people they know affected by it.

Details I know from friends in the force:
-The perp's whole immediate family has a history of mental illness
-The perp is schizophrenic, and was recently released from the UBC psych ward
-His twin brother recently committed suicide (last year)
-His mother is currently in the psych unit
This is not fucking political, drop that bullshit Honda.
This is yet another indictment on multiple aspects, one being the police dropping the ball, and the challenges as a society dealing with these nutcases.
If we want to make it political, the BC Liberals aka the Conservatives, were the ones that closed down our mental health institutions in this province.

I'm wondering why they haven't released his name yet. I wonder if it is something like "Muhammed Islam Guerrero" and his prior interactions were all huge red flags. I guess we'll learn after the election. If you people read the article I posted earlier, the festival had already had threats because of the performers they booked.
Whatever happens, under no circumstances should they release this guy. He should never see the outside of a prison cell, mental health issue or not. This shit is what places like ADX Florence are built for.

Yeah there is no way they could have known. People were saying "why would someone let them in?"
People drive in and out of events like this all day. Bringing supplies for vendors, pulling trailers in and out etc.
No one would ever have a reason to think that something like that would be the result.

What is clear, is that society needs to do the unpleasant thing and re-open asylums and forced mental health treatment for people who are at risk.

I've also heard that his family called police yesterday because he was having paranoid delusions.
One has to wonder if losing his brother along with his mother attempting to kill herself and being in the hospital had any contribution to his mental state.
