so, game 1 tonight. how are we sailing the 7 seas this year boys?

68style 10-09-2025 03:02 PM

My first week is already great for hockey watching Skinner lose Edmonton a game first game of the season hahaha wish they had panned to McDavid's face when that went in.

That said, Let's go Canucks!!! I'm really stoked on our D and hope Foote can overcome his obvious deficiencies as a player to be a great coach at this level (previous endeavors in the minors he did not fare well).

I think with only FAIR injuries, nothing too devastating or any massive drama this year, we are definitely at the very least a playoff team.

spoon.ek9 10-09-2025 03:06 PM

Center depth and who's going to pick up the scoring are the biggest concerns this year. If you look at last year's starting lineup you'll see how much has changed lol. I distinctly remember last year having huge concerns about our D but that feeling doesn't exist this year. Solid D pairings and depth for the inevitable injuries. As long as nothing catastrophic happens, I think we have a fair chance to make playoffs. However, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we miss again this year.

im hoping for good things w/ the new coach.
it's too bad what happened with tocchet, i thought we really had a good thing 2 seasons ago when the team started turning around.

spoon.ek9 10-09-2025 03:11 PM

I think the Miller/Petey rift took more out of him than he let on. Also, I wouldn't be surprised that he was upset that Miller was the one shipped out instead of Petey.

If the pre-season was a sign of things to come, at least the offensive game will be more adaptable. Tocchet was really suffocating our offense with his rigid structure. It really reminded me of AV and his inability/unwillingness to adapt strategy and instead "stick to our game" even when it clearly wasn't working anymore.

68style 10-09-2025 03:15 PM

People already shitting on the Flyers for how few shots they're getting all pre-season hahaha Tocchet strikes again.

It didn't hit me how vastly improved our d-core is until I went back and took a look at last season's starting defence. 24-25 team was:

7 Soucy
17 Hronek
27 Forbort
43 Hughes
47 Juulsen
51 Friedman
57 Myers
73 Desharnais

Only half those players are even in the organization now and 3 of them were solid AHL dmen that didn't belong in a NHL starting lineup hahahaha it's crazy how bad that starting D was on a new season.

spoon.ek9 10-09-2025 03:38 PM

We couldn't land any RHD to save our lives last season. Now we have Mancini and Willander waiting in the wings.

Gumby 10-09-2025 03:44 PM

Conor Garland is listed as 5'10"? Maybe in skates! :lol

spoon.ek9 10-09-2025 03:54 PM

that's how their listed heights work lol. it includes their skates.

:lol, just checked the final score of Edm vs. Cal game ... I saw it at 3-1 and thought the Oilers were purring along, unlike their usual slow starts of the hockey season, with new McDavid contract ... haha.

It is so frickin obvious that their weakest link is in goal. Why won't they do something to improve that position ??!!

pastarocket 10-09-2025 07:29 PM

Cootes is playing tonight against the Flames.

Demko plays a great save against Kadri on the power play!

The 84 game season actually begins 26-27. I looked it up to double check lol.

68style 10-10-2025 08:20 AM

I hope Chytil can stay healthy, he's got so much zip/energy to him and FAST... one more knock to the noggin I think he's going to have to retire.

Seems like a really nice guy in interviews too.. and he scored that first goal he barely celebrated he was looking back at the dude he smoked in the head with the puck wondering if he should go check on him.

spoon.ek9 10-10-2025 08:46 AM

You could see how laser focused Chytil was on the puck after it bounced off his head. One might say, on that play he was... on the Bahl.

The Hughes brothers are baseball fans. A picture of them as kids:

The Leafs are doing this thing where they are moving game earlier on Thanksgiving Monday, then you can stay in their arena to watch the game on their jumbotron. Nice synergy there.
