surprised by the boeser signing, but very happy with the garland signing

mikemhg 07-01-2025 09:58 AM

I guess we're running it back then.

You're damned if you do damned if you don't. So many things to think about for starters trying to keep Hughes happy. Keep some of the core guys he knows, likes, and are decent. These guys wanted to be here obviously. Ok you let them walk, then what? Who replaces 25 goal + Brock who signed for the same expired contract essentially based off of cap to team cap %. Garland isn't simply just a guy who give 100% all the time that you can find for cheap, he offers way more than that. Demko is the only one where you can debate ok do we run it back with him or not? 2 goalies? What about Silovs? crowded crease you can only pick 2.

EZ...
EP40 goes back to being 100pt player
Demko will be vezina caliber and play 60 games.

Last season was an anamoly..... In Allvin's eyes.

snowball 07-01-2025 06:01 PM

Although Petey was injured, I wouldn't be surprised if he was slightly playing that way out of spite against JT and Tocchet. Hoping for 90 from him this season.

teggy604 07-01-2025 06:04 PM

So they going to put Boeser and EP40 on the first line?

I don't think EP40 and Boeser have the same chemistry as Miller and Boeser.

That's cause Petey, Boeser, and Debrusk aren't drivers of the play like JT was, they're missing a piece for sure. Unless Petey steps up, but he might be too soft to take on that role.

bobbinka 07-02-2025 01:48 PM

Pius Suter goes to St Louis for 2 x $4mil

Unless we can trade for a center, we're going to really miss him in the lineup

68style 07-02-2025 01:56 PM

I really liked the guys details… not in the Loui Eriksson kinda way either…

He did shoot an unrepeatable 18% this last season though, I expect he will tail off considerably unless St Louis can pull another Dylan Halloway out of their ass.

whitev70r 07-02-2025 03:00 PM

Isn't there any players ready to come up from Abby Canucks, hell they just won the Calder!

bobbinka 07-02-2025 03:03 PM

Raty, Sasson, Bains, and Karlsson were all given contracts, but they're 4th line guys. at best maybe get a sniff at 3rd line.

roastpuff 07-02-2025 03:17 PM

I can see Raty being a 3C

spoon.ek9 07-02-2025 03:30 PM

Yeah that's probably his ceiling though. This team is still in dire need of a legitimate 2C. Rumours are the Canucks are looking to move Blueger and Joshua to make room. I can see them trying to ship out Hoglander for the same reason.

bobbinka 07-02-2025 04:04 PM

I really hope not. Joshua has an upside. His play was disrupted by cancer, but the latter half of the season, he found his stride. Having him and Kane would make the team a bit harder to play against, especially given the small players we have.

I believe in Hoglander, Toch just kept putting him in the doghouse.

I'd rather the package include Chytil, Mancini, or O'Connor

teggy604 07-02-2025 08:15 PM

To get a 2c?. More like Willander, and DPetey.

spoon.ek9 07-02-2025 08:34 PM

I think the initial plan was to move those two in order to re-sign Suter. But he's gone so plans will have to change again.

winson604 07-02-2025 11:40 PM

Speaking of the cap I was surprised to see the Blues over the cap by over 2 million like just based off of memory I'm like who the fuck do they have that their team is over the cap *shrug*

spoon.ek9 07-03-2025 10:29 AM

we aren't much better lol. currently sitting at 763K below the cap limit and sorely needing that 2C to actually be competing for a playoff spot.

At least there are names on our team that are pretty widely known across the league i.e. Hughes, Demko, EP and so forth so you may not be shocked at us being at the cap.

Maybe it's just me not watching hockey much anymore so my knowledge is shit now but over the cap and not a single actual star on your team like who you paying?

whitev70r 07-03-2025 11:26 AM

^ you mean LA Kings ...Holland really hacked up a good roster. Good thing might be that it's easier to grab the Pacific Div #2 spot, and maybe the 8th slot.

my IG was littered with Holland and CiCi memes last night on this very topic.

Ehlers signs with Carolina. Six years for 51 million.

68style 07-03-2025 03:49 PM

He’s a bum, surprised he got that much $

Weak and injured often

bobbinka 07-04-2025 12:40 PM

Lol, 5 teams called to see if Fleury would come out of retirement to play for their team.

My guess is Oilers, Oilers, Oilers, Oilers, and Oilers.

68style 07-04-2025 12:53 PM

I’d want him around even as a locker room presence
