I finally got my M3 Lite, and I must say, performance wise, it's excellent for both DS/GBA.

Supercard has the best DS performance IMO, but POS GBA.

And lastly the EZ4 series has so-so DS performance, but the best GBA support.

Also, I think the M3 creators tried too hard by implimenting all these functions in the menu, which aren't much useful.

So depending on your specific needs, many different flash carts will suit your needs.

Try renaming your homebrews to .nds instead of .gba

They should work. Same thing with the EZ4, some .nds homebrews wouldn't work, but worked perfectly after having an extension change (to .bin).

Yeah, the extra menus and stuff for videos, music, and etc aren't really necessary...you open them up with moonshell =\.

and m3 developers should start working on touchscreen for menus. the EZ4 series has problems only with like 3 games...so it doesn't matter.....

Man, that DS-Xtreme (Slot 1 solution) sounds pretty dope, if that review is any indication...

It doesn't play Pokemon Diamond though with this firmware version, so it fails for that... That game is too great :D

But uh... $124.95 US... That's roughly around (if not cheaper) the price that people here paid for an SC Lite, Super Key, and their 1 GB microSD...

I know I paid like $165 CDN for all that jazz put together... Granted, I did get the 1 GB Ultra II which wasn't totally necessary...

512 MB of space, you can live with that... Just switch out your games more often.

It might be worth the purchase over the SC/SKey/microSD combo anyway just for all the battery you save, this being a Slot 1 solution =P

does anyone have that supercard rumble pack??

thinkin bout gettin that.

i havent been on revscene much and prob wont be on much..

Razor Ramon HG
10-18-2006, 02:44 PM
Well, it's basically a Supercard Lite minus the GBA support with some rumble slapped on (totally gay IMO).

But it's pretty good for those that only want to play NDS because the GBA support on the Supercards sucked ass anyways. Plus it's a good 10-20 bucks cheaper, haha.

niv
10-19-2006, 12:03 AM
Don't know if anybody's noticed, but i have a couple things for sale in the used computer section.

1 m3lite bundle, basically selling it for what i paid for it with exchange and brokerage through ups) - is an awesome card, and is nice that i don't have to load moonshell onto the microSD to run it (aka built in), only reason i'm selling it is cause my orig card (wife using it now) is a supercard, and i'd rather encode the game once than twice. lol

and 2 cases (dragon cases), also at what i paid for them. I've recieved some pretty crazy offers so far. (like give me both for 15 - which is crazy seeing as i'm not selling them to make a profit)

anyhow, take a look, if you want anything pm me.

(not to step on the Ben-man's toes, but if you decide to flash your DS lite and are in coquitlam i can help you out - i work for latte's, lol.)

If you have moonshell and you want a theme for the screens, post up your pics/requests and i'll see what i can do.

Just get it flashed like me and stick in a real game to fill in the slot. works the same. just voids your warranty but you can just reflash it and it will be fine if you happen to find a dead pixel or something.

MysticHomer
10-27-2006, 09:24 AM
Heh, that's cool... For most of the newer games, the Restart, Trim, and FGP modes seem to be the default...

And if those don't work by themselves, then you use the Patch Cartridge Access option and it should work... Not that much exploring or tinkering with the settings to do eh :P

Is anyone selling the DS-X locally and how much? It costs like ~$20 more than flashing + SuperCard Lite + 512mb microSD so might as well go for the all in one solution right?

Razor Ramon HG
10-28-2006, 09:49 PM
True, but most people want around 1GB of space, since with 512MB, you can only fit games, no room for movies, MP3s, etc.

Not sure, maybe Jandaman will have them in stock soon.

ienhz
10-28-2006, 10:14 PM
Yeah I already have 512mb on my cell phone (and I always have that with me) so I don't see myself using the DS for music/movies anyways.

I have no idea what you are doing wrong. You're supposed to install the supercard program to your computer. And when you run it, you can set the default directory that it patches the game files to your MicroSD card. Sometimes when I'm "out"ing the files, the program hangs for a few mins but usually works after that.

What are the next big games coming out? I'm already finished with Phoenix Wright 2, so my DS is just collecting dust until FF3 comes out in English.

I guess that sometimes I have that problem... When encoding large roms, it hangs for a bit... Just leave it and let it run, is my guess.

And uh... honda, Children of Mana is cool and all, but don't you get bored of the dungeons?

Even though you get different tasks to do, it's essentially the same dungeon (w/ random layouts of stages) over and over, with only the discovery part being somewhat different :S

And Ranger is cool 'cause it's something NEW... I mean, it's a breath of fresh air - Who knew that circling Pokemon could be like, fun? >.<

whats the benefit to have a superkey vs getting your ds lite flashed? other then the fact that getting it flashed is cheaper... whats better about the superkey?

both can use moonshell to play videos and mp3s correct? and if you mod your ds lite, you can play original ds game cartridges without taking out the supercard?

wanna get a few points straightened out before i buy the supercard =]

MysticHomer
11-08-2006, 10:39 PM
The benefit to having a Superkey is there is no chance that you can "brick" your DS...

Though Benny's apparently very good at flashing DS's and doesn't brick them, there's always a chance I guess.

Superkey doesn't fuck with your firmware, it merely tricks the DS into booting up from Slot 2 (GBA slot).

And yeah, you can use Moonshell to playback media, you just have to put the right version of Moonshell on your card...

i.e. Use the microSD one for SC Lite.

As far as your last question goes... I can only answer for when you are using Superkey with your SC.

Yes, you can play originals without removing the Supercard, since there is nothing to trick the DS into loading from Slot 2...

So... It does in fact go to the menu or if you set it on your DS, boots from Slot 1 immediately.

Hope that helped somewhat :)

GT-[R]
11-09-2006, 12:25 AM
sweet you answered alot of my questions and everything seems to be clear now =D i just got my ds lite a few days ago... had a problem with dead pixels and arguments with eb... but finally got a working one and now looking for the supercard

if you flash your ds lite, does it always boot up the supercard, or does it go to the normal ds menu and have an option to turn on the supercard? i guess if you can get somebody who can flash it properly then the bricking of your ds lite isnt really a problem, comes down to whether or not i wanna pay the 10-15 bucks extra to get the superkey =p

MysticHomer
11-09-2006, 08:09 AM
As for that question, I really don't know, as I didn't flash my DS... Maybe someone else can cover that :)

Oh, and I forgot to mention that flashing saves a little battery life...

I've heard that it's not like a great deal of it, but it's some XD

GT-[R]
11-09-2006, 11:44 AM
sweet ill probably get the superkey then from the compc dude, just because it doesnt fuck with my firmware in case i ever need to do a warranty exchange and have to flash my new unit again...

as for moonshell, is that a free program, or a hacked one? dunno if im allowed to ask for it here or not =p

GT-[R]
11-09-2006, 07:50 PM
how do you save your games with supercard?? haha

i got everything to work except when i save my games inside the game menus it doesnt save...

MysticHomer
11-09-2006, 11:23 PM
Er, it should save normally... Just like if you have the real game cart >_>

Don't know what you're doing wrong - Do you have enough space on your microSD for save files? (.sav)

They're around 256 KB each I think.

Oh, and Moonshell is a free homebrew :)

GT-[R]
11-10-2006, 12:46 AM
i figured it out... i had to update the firmware on my supercard, it was 1.6 or something and upgraded to the newest 1.7 the games are saved now... so the files are written in .sav when you save in the game itself?

yeah i got moonshell to work, but then, video and mp3 playback is crap... i get better results for both on my cell phone lol gonna leave teh ds for gaming only

MysticHomer
11-10-2006, 02:00 PM
Haha, yeah, same here... Didn't really need it to play video or mp3 anyway >_>

And yeah, new firmware and software were released like earlier this week...

Though I don't know why your old firmware wouldn't save, it's good that you got it working :)

My newly purchased DS has a dead pixel on the touch screen, and I know that the Service Centre in Richmond will replace it for free..

The thing is, I bought it maybe 3-4 days ago from EB, and I did not buy their $15 extended warranty.

Will they allow me to exchange it at EB? Or would they just direct me to the Service Centre?

Nintensity
11-13-2006, 09:12 AM
^^^

It depends on which store you buy it from, how much the Employees KNOW, what their policy is, etc.

Its because back in the old days with the Original DS, I wantedto return it becasue I had a big fat 2 dead pixels TOGETHER so you can see it so clearly while playing. One EB said that you would have to phone/contact Nintendo's Customer Service to enquire about their repair, and the other EB said that they can do it for free if you bought it 7 days within purchase (I think its 7 days) because it is just merely a "defect" in the product.

Nintendo DS browser that has been dumped sucks! You need 2 flash carts; one in Slot 2, and one in Slot 1! BOOOO

and JING, I sent you a PM about Animal Crossing, are you willing to buy it? Good game!

which one did you buy it from? the exact same thing happened to me, i had a dead pixel out of the box and i brought it back the next day, rc eb wouldnt take it back, i need 4 or 5 dead pixels for them to do an exchange... bastards.. had a nice little chat with them... theatened to do a refund but they wouldnt do that either, some copy right law which i thought only applied to games only? systems too? who the hell copies systems?

told me to go to nintendo to repair, or pay 15 bucks to do a swap but i use up my warranty, need another 15 for another warranty.. so 30 bucks extra, + tax because they sold me a faulty ds...

ended up going to metrotown eb, they did an exchange for me no questions asked since i only bought it for a day

This FF is alot different from other FF"s

Its' ALOT harder thats for sure

Some of the differences

So far I dont think there are mana pots aside from Elixirs. So you can't really replenish your mp easily. The only way is after a fight/boss sequence all the members in the party will have full stats or
go to the Inn and sleep one night. Keep in mind there are also no tents, so you can't just tend anywhere you like

Phoenix downs are VERY limited and rare. So do make sure to keep your characters alive

**** To make it short and answer your question, just go into a town and spend the night in an inn and you'll have full mp again.

And I'm sure by now you figured out how mp works the # next to the spell level allows how many times you can cast that level's spell

Hope it helps

anyone care to briefly explain how the class levels work?
I chose jobs for red/black mage, monk, and warrior for my guys. But the game allows you go to back and become a freelancer. Do you lose your 'class levels' for switching? Or is it like that so you can freely change classes for different situations? What does it mean by battle adjustment?

when you are a certain job and you battle, you gain job levels for that job
this is a totally different level from your character level
so if you get level 10 for a thief and switch to a level 5 red mage, when you switch back to the thief he'll still be level 10

as for the battle adjustment, the number of battles indicate how many battles before you can start using they're abilites
lets say you switched from a warrior to a black mage and it says 2 battles for adjustment
that means the character won't be able to use black magic until 2 battles later

i believe job skills come with job levels, easiest way to obtain job levels is to go back to the starting of the game and fight those wussy ass monsters
just block like 5-6 times in a row and kill it
u should level up your job then

rinse and repeat

Ended up finishing the game yesterday with about 30 something hours of playtime.

I helps if you have high job levels and stick to a specific job

The party I used to finish the game was

Knight
Geomancer
Ninja
Devout

My party's levels were about 60.

I think my fav overall characters are

Thief
Dark Knight
Devout
Geomaner

Bard is pretty good too it you get good skills. I mean you can auto haste your party each fight (very useful for bosses)

I agree on Trip's comment. Color mages are pretty useless in the middle and end part of the game. If you do use a mage, you most likley should stick to Devout or even use a Sage because you can use the best of all worlds.

Help that helps

my warrior is job lvl 99, does 9999 damage every round... fucking dope... i got creamed by the final boss last time, i leveled up to 60 now and gonna make another run... by the time i make it through the towers i should be around 63...

strategy is im gonna put the ninja in back row and launch shruikens like mad lol

There are 2 ways of using these staffs / rods

If they are equiped on your mage or other character.....

When you are in a battle, select items and then scroll up. A menu of the staff/rod should show up. You can then use that chosen rod on 1 monster only. This will also yield unlimited uses during the battle.

If they are not equiped on your mage or other character

When it is your character's turn, select item and scroll all the way down and select/use the rod/staff. But the downside of this is that you are limits of how many times you can use the staff during a battle

theres a trick?
i used the warriors advance, ninja in back row throwing shruikens, and two sages, one for curing and the other for reviving, when nobody is dead i would throw random level 8 spells at the boss, level 62 and 29hrs of game time

i THINK you can do more then 9999 damage, because i was keeping track of my hp damage, and it wasnt even close to the 120,000 hp the final boss had and i killed it... i had a few critical hits @ 9999 damage too so im assuming those go over

they display only 9999 damage
but, the in game calculations might be more... it didnt happen with just the last boss, i keep track of how much damage i do sometimes, so i can better plan when to heal and such... i noticed when i do critical hits at 9999 damage, my attacks dont add up to the boss' hp levels, yet they die prematurely... *shrugs* try it out and see for yourself lol

Whoops I was going to reply earlier to your post about the Grottle....

Well its located on I forget which part the 2 worlds, but you got to ride the submarine airship and go near his mansion, you'll find the cave under water.

There's a trick to finishing the game.

Some tips but not to spoil it for you

1. Kill all the bosses before the main one, go outside the tower until you can save. That way if you do die at the last boss you have saved your progress up to that point.

2. Its really easy to kill her, you just have to focus on 1 part first.... I'll leave it up to you.

3. I finished the game at about lvl 60
Using knight/geomancer/ninja/devout

I suggest having at least knight/ninja/devout and any other char you want... maybe a dragoon/ninja?

Thats bout it, hope it helps

Hehe, probably cause you didnt equip the magic.

Try and keep level the jobs of the white mage whereas the scholars are pretty useless. Double use of 1 item whoopy doo...

How i played the game,

You pretty much need a dedicated healer throughout the game.

So a white mage in the first 2/3 of the game. And either a devout or sage in the last 1/3

Make sure you go to the appropriate site for the correct configurations.

I think it has something to do with your SD card and its speed...

If you're using SC Lite, then the microSD, in this case.

I have a Sandisk Ultra II microSD and I'm like 5 hours into the game and have not had any freezes or slowdown whatsoever :P

You might say that I'm just lucky.. But I can assure you that I'm definitely not a lucky person :P

P.S. Maybe try using DMA mode when you output the rom?

I think I'm near the end of the game.

But I keep on getting my ass handed to me. This castlevania is like 10000x harder then the other ones for some reason

EZ products known for the superior GBA support will be making their own Slot-1 known as the EZ5.

Pictures here -> http://sosuke.com/ezflash/viewtopic.php?t=3084

It'll be interesting since GBA support is stripped from all Slot-1s and the older EZ4 had awesome compatibility albeit worse speed performance than the other mainstream ones (Supercard, M3/G6, etc.)

60 is good... i had two healers to make sure that i dont fuck up again, cuz yeah i went from 53 before the castle to lvl 58 and fought the boss, got owned, lost like 2-3 hrs of gameplay... not being able to save inside dungeons is a bitch, but i guess it adds to the challenge

im at 61 or 62 right now, it just takes way too long but if you level up where leviathan and behamut are it goes by pretty fast

i think im gonna stop at 65 and take a crack at it again, the thing is you need the HP

im gonna go with monk/ninja/ninja/devout

if u go w ninjas, put em in the back row and chuck shruikens, they do 9999 damage and you get boosted defense by being in the back row

what other good ds games are there? found myself playing some of the older games like advance wars again... it seems theres nothing new to look forward to for the holidays... castlevania is kinda boring

Castlevania is boring at first, but I found it gets very fun as you go on.

Have you tried Meteos? Awesome puzzle game.

The new Kirby: Squeak Squad is pretty awesome too.

Wuts the diff between the supercard and the M3?

^different brands. the m3 is supposed to have better gba support and homebrew support, whereas the supercard does ds games fine and is priced cheaper

ewong
12-18-2006, 06:27 PM
so if I get the m3 am I paying for better quality? or is it bout the same?

I can't really decide which one to get. I kinda wanna play the old GBA games and also the DS games.

btw can u use AR with the M3/supercard?

MysticHomer
12-19-2006, 11:49 AM
If you want better GBA and don't mind spending the extra money, go for the M3.

I'd say DS compatibility is just about the same, though.

Not sure about AR working with it... I'd assume it wouldn't?

'Cause u load the cheats for the specific game with AR, and then need to load the game in the cart menu...

It probably wouldn't detect it, I'd think.

Haven't tried though or read anything about it, it's an educated guess :P

JKam
12-19-2006, 05:30 PM
you can use AR cheats, but you have to do some weird stuff. theres a tutorial on wiki.

theres also the new supercard coming out, only NDS capabilities so far.

There's no Real-Time Save with DS games on SuperCard - only with GBA games.

To save... Just save like you normally would in a game (eg: Save Point, after clearing certain objectives, etc.)

If anyone has the SC-DS.

Use 4X speed for both Castlevania games.

Intro for DoS lagged on 3X, bumped it up to 4X and it runs flawlessly. And for PoR, it froze on 3X, but no problems on 4X =]

yo buddy i had the same problem when i got my supercard

update your firmware, and your games will save when you go into the save feature of the game itself... you also gotta use the supercard program to convert games before putting them on your microsd card... hope that helps, i believe the site is www.supercard.cn

just put the firmware file on your memory card, open it with your ds, and it will install, after that you should be able to save

For GBA games, once you save, you have to turn off the DS.

Then quick turn it back on and goto the SC menu. Goto the saver menu, and select the game you just played. Then press A a couple of times to save, and voila.
