^ Dude, I got my DS about a week ago at The Source, and I had to call in to ask for stock. Prior to that, I spent more than 2 weeks runnin around Vancouver looking for one, and they were sold out everywhere. So I went down to the states with my fam, checked out a few places there, 2 walmarts, gamestop, target, sears, and they were sold out as well.

the odd thing is, they were selling the wii for $569.99USD, and it was the pre-order price..

Since the game industry has piracy on the brain this week, it is interesting to note that there are a variety of ways to deter piracy. Of course, the ultimate goal is to convert pirates to customers AND not tick off your actual customers.

Nintendo has been complaining rather loudly about piracy of late.
In particular, about the R4 device that lets a "backup" of a game on an SD card be used to play games.

The new game Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, a name designed to cause buffer overflows if there ever was one, has embraced fighting piracy by embedding an expiration timer in its game if it determines that the game is a duplicate (via Wired).

Basically, after you've played the game for about 6 hours, it simply stops playing and puts up a "Thank you for Playing" screen.

Since many computer games have a relatively short "shelf life", time is an interesting anti-piracy technique. It might be interesting to not have any anti-piracy consequences for the first couple of days of a products release and then step up a series of countermeasures... say triggering after 2 weeks.

This would basically turn the game into a demo and effectively corrupt torrents and other distribution systems with valid, but anti-piracy protected games.

This technique is used by malicious code developers as the key is to get the virus or trojan as widely distributed as possible.

The DS and pretty much every console does include a clock, so there is a good way to trigger such a security technique.

Also, for the DS, the "pirated" versions could also stop storing progress after a certain number of hours after a delay.

The key is to get players invested in the game and convince them to buy.

Ideally, Nintendo and everyone else should embrace digital distribution so that these pirates/ low cost digital distribution providers can be converted into legitimate sales. Ideally, the system should be designed so that "pirates" get paid as a low-cost digital distribution channel - why not? They have access to lots of potential customers.

Even the ysmenu doesnt solve the chinatown wars problem. U have to unpack it and replace two files and repack it. More details in the gbatemps forums

Ysmenu lets me play the rest tho, and its non invasive in that u can run it as a separate .nds file on top of ur r4 1.18 fw
