This car is in great shape , I bought it with the idea that I would use the motor out of my road beetle to power it because it will be a few years before that project would be ready . A manual convertible is a lot more rare than you'd think - for the simple reason that literally nobody wanted one when they were new, and nobody wants one now. We used to sell these cars and I remember once we took a flier on a mint black/black 6spd 335 convertible and it sat FOREVER while we rolled through identical automatics like it was going out of style.

Like even in coupes, 50% of the market either doesn't care about 6spd or can't drive stick. The idea that somebody wants the "performance" of a 6spd (bit of a misnomer) but also a convertible is just a fundamental mismatch.

The rattle isn't bad. For mine, it comes and goes. When it starts to rattle or squeak, that's when you know it's time to lube up all the joints and seals. I do that around 4x a year.

Worked at Mitsu when the X launched. SST was a great transmission when it was working correctly, very expensive to fix if not. Problem is it was designed for the factory power rating, and evos are rarely left alone.

I'm not sure if that's how it was, but I drove that gen gts Celica and it was absolutely gutless and had no torque. You had to redline the thing so it hits lift. But that's over 6500 rpm or something like that, so it was so bad in city driving. This was directly compared to the 2 dc2 gsrs that I had at the time.

I agree that Mustang is a Craigslist fail, $50K for a base Mustang with some mods. While some of the mods are good choices, this person has overspent on modding their car and is trying to recoup their money.

I may be missing details of add on packages and stuff (I'm limited to mobile atm) but searching CL for Mustang GTs has a bunch for 29-36k at dealers, I'd expect to see the low end of that or less for a private sale.

pretty disappointed when i tried it though..how can a car smaller than a corolla weigh as much as a m3 but with a 120hp deficit

Everything is doubled up, screws, fasteners, crash beams... it's the same size as a Corolla but with thicker metal and sound deadening and redundancy everywhere. Super well built cars.

I wouldn't say the manual is great stock either, for some reason they didn't use the transmission from the NA Supra and went with a truck based one with a massively heavy flywheel, it took a lot of massaging and creativity to get it to a point where it feels useable and even then you gotta wait for it to warm up as it can feel super notchy otherwise. That said, I do wish the automatic was a manual more often than I wish the manual was an automatic lol

Having owned both the GS400 and Altezza, and driven the 2J variants of both..

GS/Aristo in either 2JZGTE or 1UZ wins hands down.
Once lowered and with a proper diff, it would be the easiest, comfiest, and most fun to drive.

I partially regret straight trading my GS for the current Altezza lol.
Dimensionally similar to a Corolla. A bit small.
But 6sp + LSD makes rainy day drives fun. Just wish it would hold longer slides. GS wins this hands down.

I'm westopher's age lol... I was always interested in them because I liked the styling of the frontend... I was never crazy about the rear and the whole "altezza" trend it started.......... and we got things a bit neutered here since it only came with the i6 and mostly automatic whereas other parts of the world got turbo and high-revving NA 4's in addition to the i6.

Stock the suspension isn't amazing for handling, can't compare to a 3-series of that era, but if you drop it just a little bit and put proper shocks on it the whole car wakes up.

For me, sitting in it, you can't beat the greenhouse space it just feels fantastic to sit in/see out of and it's luxurious + sporty + smooth and pretty bulletproof. Both of mine have been stone axe reliable. Extremely positive feedback from steering and all pedals.

It provides an experience you can't buy anymore driver-feel wise and it's a pretty iconic car from the JDM lore side of things and, personally, I think the styling has aged really well.

One thing I have noticed about it though in my years of owning them, guys LOVE this car... lots of guys will tell you they always wanted one or they love how they look... but girls hate it almost universally. I cannot explain why lol, but I've noticed that over and over.
